Rapper linked to 50 Cent gunned down by ski mask-wearing thug just weeks after being released from prison; 3 others hurt in attack

A 42-year-old man died from the gunfire which took place as Jamal Green, aka Mazaradi Fox, sat in a white SUV on Farmers Blvd. and 133rd Ave. in St. Albans shortly after 4 p.m.

A rapper with close ties to 50 Cent was shot and killed Friday when a gunman in a black ski mask unloaded on an SUV full of people in Queens, police said.

Mazaradi Fox, 42, whose real name was Jamal Green, was killed at Farmers Blvd. and 134th Ave. in Jamaica about 4:10 p.m. when the shooter rolled up to his white SUV and opened fire.

Police sources said Fox, released from prison just two weeks ago, stumbled out of the Nissan SUV and collapsed in a driveway.

Three other people in the SUV were wounded, including a 21-year-old man who was hit in the neck and shoulder and was in critical condition, police said. A second man, age 22, was wounded in the arm, and the fourth victim, a woman in her 20s — believed to be Fox’s daughter according to thisis50.com — suffered a graze wound to the neck, police said.

Paramedics rushed the survivors to Jamaica Hospital.

Fox, who was released from prison Dec. 20, stumbled out of the Nissan SUV and collapsed in a driveway.

Fox, a native of Jamaica, Queens, got out of prison Dec. 20 after serving two years for an attempted assault. He was also convicted of attempted murder in 1998, according to court records.

He was a childhood friend of 50 Cent and was affiliated with the “In Da Club” rapper’s crew G-Unit. A spokesman for 50 Cent’s record company said Fox never signed with the label.

He ultimately parted company with 50 Cent and started his own rap label, Dumout, according to thisis50.com.

Family friends said Fox helped raise D’Aja Robinson, a 14-year-old girl shot dead while riding on a city bus through Jamaica in May. Relatives of the murdered girl said they considered Fox to be D’Aja’s stepfather.

Fox and 50 Cent hadn’t talked in some time, but 50 Cent attended D’Aja’s funeral and paid for the horse and carriage that carried the teen’s casket.

50 Cent was in his New York studio when he heard Fox was murdered.

“Saddened by the news of Mazaradi’s tragic passing,” he tweeted. “My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

In a jailhouse interview in August 2013, Fox said he and 50 Cent were still friends.

“We going to be homeboys till we’re both buried I guess,” he told DJ Self. “That’s my man forever.”

It was unclear if the two rappers had reunited before Fox’s death.

He also told DJ Self he couldn’t wait to get back to rapping.

“I’m ready to get the money and get the business,” he said. “I’m ready now. I was young in the game and now I’m ready.”

Fox helped raise 14-year-old D'aja Robinson, who was shot  in May while riding a Q6 MTA bus on Sutphin Blvd. in Jamaica.

The Twitterverse was abuzz with news of Fox’s slaying.

“#RIP Mazaradi Fox,” wrote @MikeBaggs. “And it seemed like homie was tryna leave the streets alone too. That’s the sad part.”

“They say jail keeps some brothers alive,” added @Shamoneyxl. “He just came home 10 days ago and now he gone.”

It was unclear how many shots were fired before the gunman, described only as a black man dressed all in black, fled in a dark-colored Hyundai sedan, according to sources.

Cops were searching for the sedan Friday night.

Residents were stunned by the bloodshed.

“We’re not used to this,” said Tiffany Jackson, 19, who lives near the crime scene. “This is a safe area. We don’t have issues. I live next to a preacher and a post office.”

The fatal shooting marks the city’s fourth homicide of 2014.

A man is recovering from surgery after police found him badly beaten at a local playground.

Atlanta police first went to Emma Millican Park around 8:30 a.m. Friday to check out a report of a person who was sick, but quickly found a man lying by that playground with major head injuries.

One neighbor, Laurel Rummel, spoke to Channel 2's Aaron Diamant just hours after police found the injured man.

"I really hope it's not a young kid," said Rummel.

Police say they still cannot confirm the man's age or name. Investigators at the park told Diamant the male had serious trauma to the back of his head and was taken to Grady Hospital in critical condition.

Rummel says the beating is a big blow to the neighborhood.

"We've been here 15 years, you know, and we have wonderful neighbors. Literally we are like family. We all watch out for each other," said Rummel.

Neighbors say the city recently expanded the park, and another neighbor, Fletcher Mitchell, expressed his feelings on the park.

"I ain't never seen no fights or nothing down there. It's been a cool neighborhood," said Mitchell.

Now, Rummel has started worrying after word of Friday's beating started to spread.

"With it being heavily wooded up in there, you know, is that going to make us a target?" asked Rummel.

It's been confirmed that the victim had surgery at Grady Hospital earlier on Friday and he's listed as critical but stable condition.

Nevada has 50,607 fewer registered voters because of routine cleanup of county voter rolls.

The secretary of state's office on Thursday reported that as of the end of December Democrats still hold a large lead over Republicans in voter registration, but the margin has narrowed to 77,636. A year ago Democrats topped GOP registrations by about 100,000.

Of the nearly 1.2 million active voters in Nevada, 41 percent are Democrats and 41 percent are Republicans. Nearly 18 percent are registered as nonpartisan. The rest are affiliated with minor political parties.

"Being a clinical person, I know it's kind of hard," said Nicole Brooke of Amarillo. "So much of it is complicated. But I think it's a step in the right direction."

Others have been quick to express their displeasure for the Affordable Care Act and national health care fo the United States.

"I think it's a waste," Amarillo resident Ryan Nash said. "It was better the way it was. Not the way it appears to be."

"Name That Party" Update: FBI probe into voter bribery scheme at Donna ISD deepens

Cash. Food. Cigarettes. Beer. And drugs.

All of them were allegedly used as payments for votes during recent election at the Donna Independent School Distirct. 

Three former campaign workers, or politiqueras, are facing criminal charges.

Over the past two weeks, FBI agents have arrested Rebecca Gonzalez, Guadalupe Escamilla and Diana Castañeda amid on ongoing voter fraud and corruption investigation.

Court records reveal the three politiqueras are accused of paying people to vote in the Donna ISD races in the November 2012 General Election.

Among the alleged payments were cash, food, beer and even illegal drugs.

The three former campaign workers are out on bond.

FBI agents have not publicly named the candidates who benefitted from the scheme but reported that the politiqueras are cooperating with the investigation.

Election records show that incumbents Ernesto Lugo, Alfredo Lugo, Mike Flores and Nick Castillo all kept their seats on the school board during the election.

Investigators confirmed that Alfredo Lugo, who also served as Donna ISD's school board president, took his own life on New Year's Day.

Moroccan-born musician Boujemaa Razgui, who plays a reed flute native to northern Africa, had his bag taken away after a trip from Madrid to Kennedy Airport on Dec. 22 because it was also carrying bamboo, which Customs will not allow into the U.S. via luggage. As a result, Razgui said he's been unable to make performance and has to plan a trip to the Middle East to locate more materials to craft new instruments.

There was no magic for some reed flutes that were seized by Kennedy Airport customs agents a few days before Christmas and destroyed — silencing a world-famous musician who is now unable to perform.

Moroccan-born musician Boujemaa Razgui — who plays a type of reed flute native to Berber shepherds — suffered a mishap of the worst kind Dec. 22 when customs agents seized his bag as he flew into Kennedy Airport after giving a concert in Madrid.

His precious reed flutes — 11 called nays and two called kawalas — were grabbed by a customs agent and deemed illegal agricultural product, Razgui said.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before," the anguished flutist told the Daily News. "The worst thing I worried about was that someone would sit on (the case), that was the biggest mistake I could imagine."

Razgui, one of about 15 musicians in the U.S. who can play the nay, is a world-renowned flutist who has performed at Lincoln Center, and also collaborated with Beyonce and Shakira on their track, "Beautiful Liar."

The 55-year-old father, a resident of Plymouth, Mass., said he's bereft without his flutes and had to cancel several performances over the holidays.

"I make my living from this, this is how I feed my family," said Razgui, who grew up on the streets of Marrakesh playing the reed flute.

Razgui said he's checked his flutes on flights before and never had a problem clearing U.S. customs.

He was unaware that his bags were under scrutiny as he waited in Kennedy Airport for his connecting flight to Boston on Dec. 22.

"If they had just called me to tell me what's going on, I would have a chance to at least save the nays," he said.

He didn't learn what had happened until the next day, he said. His bags didn't appear in Boston after his flight landed, but the airline dropped them off at his home Dec. 23, he said.

That's when he saw that the carefully packed box that carried his flutes was empty.

After driving to Logan Airport for answers, he was put in touch with a customs agent in New York, who told him his prized possessions had been destroyed, Razgui said.

Along with his flutes — one of which was made in Morocco more than 24 years ago — Razgui was transporting material to make a few new ones.

The reeds that are used to make nay are hard to find and only grow in southern Spain, Morocco, Egypt and parts of the Middle East, Razgui said.

It only takes about an hour to make a nay, but it can take a lot longer to find the right kind of reed, he noted.

Razgui said the flutes are made from reeds that have already been cut and dried — but a spokesman for the U.S. Customs Agent said the shoots found in his bag Dec. 22 were "fresh green bamboo" and therefore not allowed into the country.

"The fresh bamboo canes were seized and destroyed in accordance with established protocols to prevent the introduction of plant pathogens," the spokesman said.

Razgui said he'll have to plan a reed-seeking trip overseas to find material for new flutes — and he plans to secure the approval of the U.S. Department of Agriculture before departing.

"Syria is best, for these types of reeds, but the situation is not so good there right now. I may have to try Lebanon," Razgui said.

Communist Colorado: Big Brother struggles to keep up with unConstitutional background checks

DENVER - Gun sale background checks in Colorado are at a record high, and retailers attribute the rise in part to concerns over crackdowns on guns after recent school shootings, including the December 2012 incident at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn., that left 20 children and six adults dead.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation had approved nearly 355,000 checks as of November, thousands more than all of last year's 335,940 approvals. A total of 361,591 residents had applied for firearms background checks through November, compared with 343,302 for 2012.

Over the weekend before Christmas, more than 2,000 criminal background checks were statewide, a high number caused by holiday sales, a gun show and other factors.

Although the large number of weekend sales followed a shooting at Arapahoe High School that left two students dead on Dec. 13, including the shooter who was a student at the school, state officials said they could not determine if that was another reason for the increase.

"After the tragic school shooting (at Sandy Hook) when everybody started trying to hoard, then we had a great influx of people trying to purchase firearms," said Brian Langfitt, a licensed dealer and owner of Pawn of Western Colorado.

Susan Medina, spokeswoman for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, said final year-end numbers will be released in upcoming weeks. Medina also said the department does not know what effect new state laws on background checks will have on this year's activity.

As of Wednesday, private individuals selling to other private individuals are required to go to a licensed dealer for an authorized background check.

"In the past, a seller in a private transaction just had to have a general knowledge that the person they were selling the firearm to could legally possess the firearm," Medina said.

Statistics from the Colorado Department of Public Safety show that nearly 5,000 background checks were performed on private sales from July, including 72 that were blocked because of criminal records, KKCO-TV reported Tuesday.

Ammo magazine manufacturer refuse to buckle to communist ruling class, upholds promise to leave Colorado

CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- One of the country's largest producers of ammunition magazines for guns is leaving Colorado and moving operations to Wyoming and Texas because of new state laws that include restrictions on how many cartridges a magazine can hold.

Erie, Colo.-based Magpul Industries Corp. announced Thursday that it was moving its production, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne and its headquarters to Texas, making good on a vow it made to leave Colorado during last year's gun control debate.

"Moving operations to locations that support our culture of individual liberties and personal responsibility is important," Magpul CEO Richard Fitzpatrick said in a statement. "Moving to a true multi-state operation will also allow Magpul to utilize the strengths of both Texas and Wyoming as we continue to expand."

Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead said in a statement that Wyoming offers Magpul "a firm commitment to uphold the Second Amendment."

The Democrat-led Colorado Legislature and Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper enacted a new law last year prohibiting the sale of gun magazines that hold more than 15 rounds. It was part of a package of legislation in response to mass shootings at a suburban Denver movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.

The laws drew praise from gun control activists but sparked furor from gun rights advocates. The laws prompted the successful recall of two Democratic state senators and the resignation of a third.

Randy Bruns, CEO of Cheyenne's economic development organization, said it is working with Magpul on a financial package that could include up to $13 million in state grants and loans to help the company move to Cheyenne.

"It's very significant for Cheyenne and for Wyoming," Bruns said. "They bring a manufacturing capability that's not otherwise present here in Wyoming."

He hopes Magpul's move will cause other manufacturers to consider relocating or opening facilities in Wyoming.

Magpul spokesman Duane Liptak said the company plans to move the majority of its workers from Colorado over the next 12 to 16 months. The move involves about 200 jobs, Liptak said.

The company is leasing a 58,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Cheyenne and will build a permanent 100,000-square-foot facility.

Magpul said its corporate headquarters will likely be in north-central Texas but an exact location hasn't been determined. Company officials are working with Texas Gov. Rich Perry and state economic development officials on the move.

Founded in 1999, Magpul products also include grips, slings, stocks and sights for guns, according to its website.

It is the second Colorado company involved in making gun accessories to relocate operations to Wyoming since Colorado's new gun laws were enacted.

HiViz Shooting Systems, a Fort Collins-based company that makes gun sights and other accessories, announced earlier that it was moving its core operations to Laramie, about 50 miles west of Cheyenne.
