Times of London: Hamas razes historic site for ‘terror training camp’

04.21.2013

EU is asked to act as ancient ruins in the Gaza Strip proposed as World Heritage Site are bulldozed by militants, writes Sheera Frenkel

Palestinian militants in Gaza have started to bulldoze part of a complex of ancient ruins, including the remains of a Roman temple, to build what a UN agency described as “a terrorist training ground”.

Part of the 3,000-year-old Anthedon harbour was seized last month by the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. Hamas controls the Gaza Strip in defiance of the Palestinian Authority based in the West Bank. Last year the mainstream Palestinian administration nominated the ruins as a Unesco World Heritage site.

“It is devastating, very devastating to hear this site is under threat after all the efforts we made to have it recognised by Unesco,” said one Palestinian official based in the West Bank. “It makes us look bad, the Palestinians, that we cannot preserve our own sites.”

The ruins, which were discovered in 1997 but never fully excavated due to the political instability and violence in the Gaza Strip, boast exquisite mosaics and ancient pillars.

Muhammad Khela, a Deputy Minister of Tourism in the Gaza Strip, told the Al-Monitor news site that his ministry had agreed to the area being used to train militants.

“We can’t stand as an obstacle in the way of Palestinian resistance; we are all a part of a resistance project, yet we promise that the location will be used without harming it,” Mr Khela said, adding that if the ruins had been important to the international community, Unesco would have already begun an excavation there.

Ahmed al-Bursh, spokesman for the Hamas Tourism Ministry in Gaza, confirmed that the militants had official approval to train there. “A Palestinian faction asked to use a small part of the location because they already had a training camp next to it and they wanted to expand the training location,” he said. “They did this in co-ordination with our ministry and we agreed as long as they did not use weapons there or dig and damage the site.”

He stressed that while the training camp posed “no harm to the historical site”, the ruins had been damaged during Israel’s last two military offensives in Gaza.

Another official in Gaza, who did not want to be named, said that the land was first seized by the al-Qassam Brigades, a rival militant group, in 2002, who built a small training camp on the edge of the ruins.

“They have now muscled a much larger section there, I would say they are now using 30 per cent of the area we know to be the ruins as a training camp,” he said, adding that he was certain that “important archaeology and history is being destroyed”.
UN Watch, a Geneva-based monitoring group, sent a letter this week to Irina Bokova, the Unesco director-general, calling for immediate action to stop the bulldozing of the port “for use as a terrorist training camp”.

A copy was sent to the European Union foreign policy chief, Baroness Ashton of Upholland, calling on the EU to take action.

“Unesco’s admission of Palestine as a member state in 2011, which caused the organisation to lose almost a quarter of its budget when the US suspended its contributions, was justified as a measure to help protect world heritage sites in Palestinian areas,” the letter said. “Yet as Hamas turns a cultural heritage site into a terrorist training ground – the antithesis of culture – the silence of Unesco now places the very credibility of the organisation at stake.” A Unesco spokesman declined to comment.

BREAKING: RINO Chris Christie Unveils SWEEPING New Gun Control Measures for NJ

NJ already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

Is that a hollow point round in your pocket? Congratulations, you’re a felon.

Want to go down to the gun show this weekend? Oh yeah, those are outright illegal in NJ.

Now Governor Chris Christie has unveiled his plans for even stricter gun control laws.

Christie is proposing to ban, by name, the Barrett .50 caliber rifle (are .50 cal sniper shootings a big problem in NJ?), expand the mental health data used by background checks, and make it a felony to allow children to have access to guns.

While we’re talking about Christie lets talk for a minute about the importance of the primary process in presidential elections. This guy is being touted as a possible GOP presidential candidate for 2016, so make sure you understand your state’s primary voting procedure so we can make sure we aren’t running a RINO for president.

BREAKING: Communist Senator Lautenberg Introduces Legislation to Regulate Gunpowder

04.21.2013

Are you listening hunters? I know many hunters prefer to hand load their hunting cartridges to really dial in the accuracy of their rifles. Well, doing that could become more cumbersome and more expensive if Senator Lautenberg has his way.

The senator is introducing legislation that would require the sale of gunpowder of all types to be subject to a background check during the purchasing process.

Obviously, this will raise the price of gunpowder and make ordering online nearly impossible.

Currently, a person may have 50lbs of black powder on hand. This is an amount that would be appropriate for shooters who like to reload their own ammo to save money and create more accurate cartridges.

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers supported Obamacare when it was being pushed through, but the law is turning out to be such a disaster that it’s become the first union to call for its repeal.
The president of the union, Kinsey Robinson, says he’s concerned that his members may lose their existing healthcare plans. Additionally, the way the Affordable Care Act is written may force the union to drop its health care plan for retirees.

Obama Taking Executive Action On Guns After Senate Vote

04.21.2013

Blocked by Congress from expanding gun sale background checks, President Obama is turning to actions within his own power to keep people from buying a gun who are prohibited for mental health reasons.

Federal law bans certain mentally ill people from purchasing firearms, but not all states are providing data to stop the prohibited sales to the FBI's background check system. A federal review last year found 17 states contributed fewer than 10 mental health records to the database, meaning many deemed by a judge to be a danger still could have access to guns.

The Obama administration was starting a process Friday aimed at removing barriers in health privacy laws that prevent some states from reporting information to the background check system. The action comes two days after the Senate rejected a measure that would have required buyers of firearms online and at gun shows to pass a background check. That's already required for shoppers at licensed gun dealers.

Stung by the defeat, Obama vowed to keep up the fight for the background check expansion but also to do what he could through executive action.

"Even without Congress, my administration will keep doing everything it can to protect more of our communities," Obama said from the Rose Garden shortly after the Senate voted. "We're going to address the barriers that prevent states from participating in the existing background check system."

Obama also mentioned giving law enforcement more information about lost and stolen guns and establishing emergency plans for schools. Those measures were among the 23 executive actions the president signed in January when he announced his broader push for tighter gun laws in response to a mass shooting of first-graders and staff at Newtown, Conn.'s Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Health and Human Services Department on Friday was beginning to ask for public comment on how the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, passed by Congress in 1996 and known as HIPAA, is preventing some states from reporting to the background check system and how to address the problem. Under HIPAA, health care providers such as hospitals may release limited information to police, but only in certain circumstances such as when a court is involved.

Since 1968, federal law has banned the sale of guns to those who have been deemed a danger to themselves or others, involuntarily committed or judged not guilty by reason of insanity or incompetent to stand trial. The background check system -- which is also used to prevent convicted felons from buying guns -- was established under the 1993 Brady Bill.

A few state agencies shared mental health records voluntarily for years, but the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007 spurred passage of legislation that required states to submit the records or eventually risk losing up to 5 percent of the federal funding they receive to fight crime.

Last year's review by the Government Accountability Office found that although the number of mental health records available to the background check system increased 800 percent since 2004, some states said they were not sharing mental health information because of concerns about restrictions under HIPAA privacy law. Obama is interested in a change that would specifically allow disclosure of mental health records for the system, and he wants to increase financial incentives for states to contribute the information.

In the Virginia Tech rampage, student Seung-Hui Cho shot 32 people to death and committed suicide. He was able to buy two guns even though he had been ruled a danger to himself during a court hearing in 2005 and was ordered to undergo outpatient mental health treatment.

Authorities have not described a possible motive or released details of any mental health condition that might explain why Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six adults before killing himself. The rifle he used was purchased by his mother, whom he also killed at home before heading to the school.

The background check system does not give retailers access to mental health records but simply tells them whether a buyer is approved, denied or needs additional investigation before a firearm may be purchased. The system doesn't tell the seller why a potential buyer was denied.

Boston Muslim Terrorist an Obama Fan. Will the media report this fact?

4.21.2013

Several posts on what is believed to be the Twitter profile of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev indicate that that the 19-year-old Chechnyan immigrant was a supporter of Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election.

If that is indeed the case, it does not mean that Obama has any sort of connection with or responsibility for the bombing suspect or his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev. It does, however, completely reverse the fantasy that many American liberals were openly hoping for: that the bombing suspects might be revealed as Timothy McVeigh 2.0, someone whose very name they could use to smear and deride anyone who stands against their belief system. In other words, one of those “dog whistles” we keep hearing so much about.

Now that information has emerged which not only indicates the suspected bombers were not radical conservatives but that one of them appears to be a supporter of President Obama, how widely will it be spread in the endless series of reports trying to report as many details about the two suspects?

Several news agencies have tracked down a Twitter account which is believed to belong to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the younger of the two brothers whom the FBI has identified as the people responsible for a pressure cooker bomb which killed three people and injured nearly 150.

The 'I' Word

04.21.2013

"Islam" is the I word, the greatest taboo amongst "journalists" and government spokesmen today.

Consider this article at CBS News. Two years ago the FBI interviewed the older brother, Tamerlan, looking for "extremist ties" or "ties to Chechen extremists." That's it, just "extremists." No hint as to what kind those might be, for we dare not name the Religion of Peace.

The boys' mother gives the game away (sort of): "Zubeidat Tsarnaeva said her son got involved in 'religious politics' about five years ago, and never told her he was involved in 'jihad.'"

"Religious politics." Now that's a little more suggestive. Lutherans petitioning for a zoning variance to turn their church into multi-family housing units? The National Council of Churches looking "for political leaders for whom a foreign policy based on cooperation and global justice is an urgent concern"? Tamerlan could have been lending a hand to most any kind of "religious politics." But then mother mentions "jihad." That is troubling. I've never heard of Lutherans, Methodists, or, for that matter, Baptists being involved in jihad, in trying to persuade politicians with pressure cookers.

Incidentally, look up Tamerlan's namesake. According to some estimates, the 14th century Muslim conqueror of south-central Asia killed 5% of the world's population. That's impressive, a wonderful role model for a modern follower of the Religion of Peace.

Meanwhile, our president is baffled as to motive. In his press conference Friday, Mr. Obama did not mention religion at all, much less the I word. "Why did young men who grew up and studied here as part of our communities and our country resort to such violence [1:58]?" His heart is not in the sentiment, read listlessly, the question purely rhetorical, merely a throw-away line. But he is filled with certitude when it comes to diversity, using the word twice: "That American spirit includes staying true to the unity and diversity that makes us strong [3:30]." Strong? Strong enough for a great city to be held hostage for four days by only two true believers? And the three dead bombing victims "reflected all the beauty and diversity of our country [4:40]." Didn't Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev reflect our diversity as well?

Welcome to self-censorship. "Islam" is the I word.

Dangerous Percentage: 25% of Young Muslim Americans Support Suicide Bombings

04.21.2013

While some are reporting that a recent Pew Research Center poll show that U.S. Muslims are "largely assimilated and happy", many others are questioning that statement and digging into the deeper meaning of the Pew Research Center data. And some of the data about Muslim Americans is raising concern. An MSNBC article reports "Sympathy for suicide bombers raises fears about homegrown extremism".

According to the Pew Research Center poll released late last month, about 25% of American Muslims ages 18 to 19 said, "the use of suicide bombing against civilian targets to defend Islam could be justified, at least on rare occasions."

Health Care Mandate for 30-Hour Weeks Won't Work for Businesses, or Workers

04.13.2013

Eighty years ago this month, the United States came this close (insert pinched finger and thumb here) to establishing a 30-hour work week but wisely thought better of it.

Today, the president’s health care law is essentially accomplishing the same thing.

The law requires employers of any business with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees to provide at least the minimum level of government-defined health insurance coverage to those employees beginning in 2014.

However, Obamacare defines “full-time” work as averaging only 30 hours per week, rather than the traditional 40 hours per week.

Boston bombs: Obama lulled America into false confidence over terror threat

4.21.13

"The war on terror cannot be fought at an arm's length - and the attacks on Boston have brought uncertainty back to American streets", writes Peter Foster.

In his State of the Union address to the American people earlier this year, Barack Obama declared that he was "confident" of achieving "our objective of defeating the core of al-Qaeda".

Although he acknowledged the need to pursue the "remnants" of the terrorist group and its affiliates, the overall message was clear – al-Qaeda was badly degraded, the tides of war were receding and the US was winning this fight that was no longer even officially a war.

It has even bought anonymous information about at least 10 million consumers from credit-monitoring companies, including Experian, which was paid $8.4 million.

Created by the 2010 Dodd-Frank law, the consumer bureau consolidated and expanded U.S. oversight of consumer finances.... FULL STORY

Although Mike Mulugata arrived at the hospital in 'deep arrest' and is now reported dead, Tripathi remains on the lam, and he's a real peace of work, this one: now we hear bombs were found near Brown campus recently, which had to be 'sploded by a bomb squad.
