If you’re an underdog presidential candidate who manages to pull off a two-state win against tough competition as Rick Santorum did in Mississippi and Alabama on Tuesday, you deserve your own theme song. And now Santorum has one, called “Remember Who We Are.”

The song is performed by Nashville artist Krista Branch, who is better known for her song “I Am America,” the ballad that originated as the anthem for the tea party movement and was later co-opted by GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain as his official theme song. Michael Branch, Krista Branch’s husband, wrote the song and served as Cain’s Tennessee director. It underscored Cain’s anti-elitist appeal with lyrics such as, “Pretend you're kings, sit on your throne, look down your nose at the peasants below.”

Santorum’s Branch-produced theme song expresses “the beauty and strength of who we are as free Americans,” the former Pennsylvania senator said in a statement. " 'It’s our time,’ as the song says – our time to take a firm, unwavering stand against big government. And it is our time to take our country back,” he said.

The lyrics also capture the sentiment of the dogged, come-from-behind effort that has made Santorum front-runner Mitt Romney’s main obstacle to the Republican nomination. As the song says: “We were a city on a hill, a candle in the dark. We keep our faith … when there’s little hope we show no doubt.”
