WEST LAWN, Pa. -- Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania say they have arrested a suspect in a hammer attack that killed an elderly woman and injured her husband.
Police in Spring Township, Berks County, say they were called to a Stone Hill Farms home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday, where they found 82-year-old Lucy Born dead. Her 86-year-old husband, James, was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment of head wounds.
Prosecutors said 36-year-old Manuel Carrero of Shippensburg was arrested early Sunday and charged with criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder and attempted murder and aggravated assault. Police said Carrero told them he was fixing the couple's computer and admitted to beating them with a hammer.
A neighbor heard James Born yell for help and called police.
