Now that PRISM is out of the bag, politicians are calling for everyone involved to be prosecutors. After some have asked for Edward Snowden’s arrest, others are now demanding that reporters be prosecuted for publishing stories with leaked classified information.
Peter King, U.S. Representative, said in an interview for CNN that the recent NSA leaks pose a grave threat to national security and then took a swing at the reporters who brought the truth out to light, The Huffington Post reports.
“If they willingly knew that this was classified information, I think action should be taken, especially on something of this magnitude,” King said.
“I think of something of this magnitude, there is an obligation both moral but also legal, I believe, against a reporter disclosing something that would so severely compromise national security,” he said.
So let’s go over this again. The President, the NSA director and politicians are trying to downplay the magnitude of the PRISM program while also claiming that the leak poses a great threat for the United States.
However, instead of investigating exactly how PRISM could be allowed to gather private information on such a level, they choose to go after Edward Snowden and the reporters who told the world the truth.
