ONTARIO -- An Ontario man was charged with sexually abusing a child for more than a year, according to Fontana Superior Court records.
Alberto Olegario Diaz Munos, 54, was arrested this week after the parents of a 13-year-old girl learned Diaz Munos had allegedly been sexually abusing their daughter for more than a year, Ontario police Sgt. David McBride said.
"She recently came out and told them about it," McBride said.
Police officers found enough evidence to arrest Diaz Munos on suspicion of continued sexual abuse of a child, aggravated sexual assault on a child and lewd and lascivious acts on a child, records show.
Diaz Munos is also being held on an immigration hold and is booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
Authorities do not contend there are any additional victims, but detectives are investigating the case.
A search of court records show Diaz Munoz has no previous criminal record in San Bernardino County.
Young victims of sexual abuse many times will not tell anyone about the abuse, McBride said.
"Sometimes it's very hard for children to come forward," he said, adding parents should watch for changes in their child's behavior and act on their intuitions.
"Parents know when there's something wrong with their children," McBride said. "That's when they should investigate."
