Mitt Romney accepts MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry apology over black grandson jokes
‘They’ve apologized,’ said the former GOP Presidential candidate on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. ‘That’s all you can ask for.’
Mitt Romney accepted an apology from MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry who openly mocked his family photo featuring his adopted African-American grandson Kieran James.
"I recognize that people make mistakes," Romney said on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. "And the folks at MSNBC made a big mistake. And they've apologized for it. And that's all you can ask for."
A day before, Harris-Perry offered a tearful apology to the Romney family and to other families formed through transracial adoption.
"I am deeply sorry that we suggested that interracial families are in any way funny or deserving of ridicule," she said.

Former Republican Presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney says of the apology, "I think it's a heartfelt apology. And I think for that reason, we hold no ill will whatsoever."
During the "Nerdland plays Caption That!" segment on Dec. 29, Harris-Perry and her panel of guests cracked jokes about the Romney family’s Christmas card photo, showing the former GOP presidential candidate and his wife Ann sitting in the middle of their 22 grandchildren, with baby Kieran sitting on Romney's right knee.
"One of these things is not like the other," one guest sang. Another joked that the picture "really sums up the diversity of the Republican Party."
Romney said that if someone enters politics he or she can expect to be targeted but that going after children is across the line.
"And I think they understand that and feel that, as well," he said. "I think it's a heartfelt apology. And I think for that reason, we hold no ill will whatsoever."

Melissa Harris-Perry chocked up on-air Saturday while apologizing for her controversial comments about Mitt Romney's grandchild.
Romney graciously dodged Wallace's attempts to goad the former Massachusetts governor to lambast Harris-Perry and MSNBC.
When asked about Harris-Perry's joke that maybe Kieran would grow up to marry Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's daughter North West, Romney said he had not heard it but reiterated that he thinks her apology sincere.
Harris-Perry’s first apology came via Twitter on New Year’s Eve.
