Football fans know what happened in Super Bowl I. The game, which was played on January 15, 1967, was the first showdown between the NFL and AFL champions. It ended with the Green Bay Packers stomping the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10.
For years, the Holy Grail of American sports video has been Super Bowl I -- the championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, the Paley Center for Media in New York believes it has a tape of a mostly complete broadcast of the 1967 game. WSJ's Lee Hawkins reports.
Unless they were one of the 61,946 people at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that day, or one of the fans who watched it live on NBC or CBS, there's one thing that all football fans have in common: They've never actually seen the game.
In a bizarre confluence of events, neither network preserved a tape. All that survived of this broadcast is sideline footage shot by NFL Films and roughly 30 seconds of footage CBS included in a pre-game show for Super Bowl XXV. Somehow, an historic football game that was seen by 26.8 million people had, for all intents and purposes, vanished.
HBO executive Rick Bernstein, who produced a two-part history of sports television in 1991, is one of many who have searched for a tape. He says his team chased numerous leads, from a reported copy in Cuba to rumors that Hugh Hefner might have recorded the game on a videotape machine in the Playboy Mansion. Nothing turned up. "It's the holy grail," Mr. Bernstein says.

A scene from the recently recovered tape of the 1967 CBS broadcast of Super Bowl I between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The long search may finally be over. The Paley Center for Media in New York, which had searched for the game footage for some time, has restored what it believes to be a genuine copy of the CBS broadcast. The 94-minute tape, which has never been shown to the public, was donated to the center by its owner in return for having it restored. It was originally recorded on bulky two-inch video and had been stored in an attic in Pennsylvania for nearly 38 years, the Paley Center says.
Ron Simon, a curator at the Paley Center, said the center's archivists had issued "most-wanted" lists in the past for lost tapes it coveted, and the Super Bowl I broadcast was always on them. Mr. Simon says the sequence of plays shown, the announcers and graphics that appear and the general look of the production leave no doubt that the tape is real. "I've seen faked games before, and this is not one," he says.
Mr. Simon likens the tape's emergence to the center's discovery of lost episodes of "The Honeymooners." "This is one of the great finds," he says.
It seems preposterous now, in the DVR age, that a telecast shown by two major networks could go missing. But in 1967, "people just didn't have video recorders at home," Mr. Simon explains. He says the networks didn't develop consistent policies for preserving programs until the 1970s and that while they did a good job of preserving prime-time programs, other shows–daytime shows, morning shows, and sports–weren't usually preserved at all. Representatives from both CBS and NBC confirmed the networks do not have copies of their broadcasts.

The 94-minute tape, which has never been shown to the public, was donated to the center by its owner in return for having it restored.
The tape's owner said through his attorney, Steve Harwood of Norfolk, Va., that the recording had been shot by his client's father, who recorded the broadcast by WDAU-TV in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on a videotape machine at his workplace in hopes the tapes might someday be valuable.
In the summer of 2005, Mr. Harwood says that the tape's owner found out that Sports Illustrated had named the missing Super Bowl broadcast one of the "lost treasures" of sports and estimated the tapes were worth more than $1 million. Mr. Harwood says his client decided to approach the Paley Center about restoring the tape.
WSJ's J.R. Whalen reveals some little-known facts about Super Bowl I, played in 1967. Like, for instance, it wasn't even called the Super Bowl.
Doug Warner, the Paley Center's director of engineering, remembers the day when the unthinkable happened. "This guy showed up with a shopping bag that had Super Bowl I in it."
The two reels of two-inch quadruplex tape were warped and slightly beat up. To restore the recording, the Paley Center worked with a consultant with expertise in crude tape machines used to record them and hired New Jersey-based film preservation house Specs Bros. to do the work. The center says it was allowed to keep a copy but cannot show it without the owner's permission. (The still photographs accompanying this story and the short clips available on WSJ.com were provided by Mr. Harwood).
The tape, which is in color, is an absorbing time capsule. It contains vintage commercials for McDonald's (then boasting of "Over Two Billion Served") and Muriel cigars ("So much more cigar for just 10 cents"). The first touchdown in Super Bowl history—a 37-yard pass from Green Bay's Bart Starr to backup wide receiver Max McGee—is shown in a replay where the words "video tape" appear on the screen. There's some understated commentary from CBS broadcasters Jack Whitaker, Ray Scott and Frank Gifford ("Dawson... Sideline... Burford... Incomplete.") and a rare postgame grin from Packers head coach Vince Lombardi.
The recording also includes a shocking sight for a Super Bowl: empty seats. The game didn't sell out, even with ticket prices that topped out at $12.
The tape isn't perfect. The halftime show and a large chunk of the third quarter are missing. The person who recorded it skipped over some breaks in the action. The image pixelates on occasion, the sound quality varies and there are occasional eruptions of white static at the side of the screen.
Mr. Harwood, the attorney, says he contacted the NFL in 2005 about the tape. He says the league sent him a letter on Dec. 16, 2005 claiming the NFL was the exclusive owner of the copyright. Mr. Harwood says the NFL offered his client $30,000 for the tape and his client declined. Mr. Harwood said his client would like to sell the tapes and make them available to the public if the legal issues can be resolved.
Whatever its fate, the tape's discovery is the first strong evidence that one of the lost treasures of sports may not be lost after all. "This is an amazing document," Mr. Simon says.

Pentagon Reports Billions of Dollars in Contractor Fraud
At least 91 contractors holding contracts worth $270 billion were the subjects of civil fraud judgments -- and in some cases criminal fraud convictions as well, many of which resulted in fines, suspensions or debarments. Even so, Defense Department contracting officers still assigned $4.9 billion worth of work with these companies after the fraud was uncovered, the report said.
What to do With a Truly Lawless Regime
No, not the one running Egypt. I mean the Obama regime:
A Louisiana federal judge on Wednesday held the Interior Department in contempt for re-imposing a deepwater oil-drilling ban last year after the judge had struck down an earlier version of the moratorium.
That would be U.S. District Court Judge Martin Feldman. His original ruling chastised the Department of the Interior for imposing the ban without basing it on any hard data that other drilling operations were in danger of having the same problems as the BP rig that spewed a huge amount of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
Republicans need to get ugly on this. It isn’t the first time the Obama regime has acted in such a lawless fashion.
That moratorium issued by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar was based on blatant lies. Interior’s Inspector General came out with a report which showed the White House, specifically those working for “Climate Czar” Carol Browner, put in those lies.
Anyway, The Hill continues:
Interior issued a new version of the deepwater ban in July that it eventually lifted in October, but permitting for deepwater projects has not yet resumed.
Feldman’s order Wednesday takes Interior to task for the way it went about issuing a new, but very similar, version of the ban after he granted an injunction against the first one.
In other words, Salazar’s minions got cute and re-established the same ban in July but with different words. And even though the moratorium was lifted, Interior is still not issuing permits.
Feldman came down as hard as he could:
Judge Martin Feldman’s ruling — which is stuffed with harsh words for Interior — orders the department to pay attorneys’ fees in the case against last year’s drilling ban brought by several offshore oil services companies.
What Interior has done is engage and continue to engage in unlawful behavior, helped by the White House.
This lawlessness has also extended to the FCC and its chairman Julius Genachowski. After being told by a court that the FCC had no business regulating the internet, Genachowski went ahead and did it anyway.
Genachowski, Salazar, Browner, and any of their minions involved in either the illegal internet regulations and the drilling moratorium needs to be hauled up by the GOP to answer for their dishonest and illegal actions. Republicans can hold up Feldman’s original ruling, the Interior IG report, Feldman’s contempt order, and the ruling against the FCC. They should ask these jerks if members of the administration believes it is above the law. Then, the Republicans need to vilify and humiliate these people publicly and loudly. Lastly, demand Obama sack the lot of them and remind the President his position is not one of an absolute ruler, that he must adhere to the rule of law just as every other President must. They should also remind the President the powers given to the House and the Senate under the Constitution when dealing with unlawful individuals in an administration.

Rasmussen: Bounce gone, strong disapproval back to 40%
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 23% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -17 (see trends).
The president’s Approval Index ratings have fallen nine points since Monday as the crisis in Egypt unfolds. Most of the decline comes from a fall in the number who Strongly Approve of the president’s performance (30% on Monday, 23% now). However, for the first time since mid-December, the number who Strongly Disapprove has moved back over the 40% mark for five straight days. The Strongly Disapprove total had been above 40% for most of 2010 but fell to the high-30s after the president and Senate Republicans reached a deal to extend the Bush Administration tax cuts. …
Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president’s performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove.

Obama Admin. Betrays Britain Over Nuclear Secrets For START
After whining about Republicans blocking the START treaty months ago, Obama finally signed it on Tuesday morning, and the US media was a bit miffed that they weren't allowed in the room. And now we find out from the UK Telegraph
Information about every Trident missile the US supplies to Britain will be given to Russia (WT note: that link is for the actual WikiLeaks cable) as part of an arms control deal signed by President Barack Obama next week.
The fact that the Americans used British nuclear secrets as a bargaining chip also sheds new light on the so-called “special relationship”, which is shown often to be a one-sided affair by US diplomatic communications obtained by the WikiLeaks website.
Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal.
Time and time again, Obama has blown off our special relationship with Britain. Sending back the bust of Churchill, treating Prime Minister Gordon Brown and wife, along with the UK media, shabbily and dismissively, talking about how Britain is just another friendly country, giving the Queen an iPod with Obama greatest speeches on it, among others, and now this.
As Niles Gardiner writes further at the Telegraph
The matter is serious enough to merit Congressional hearings in Washington as well as parliamentary hearings in London. It is easy to see why the Obama team refused to allow the US Senate access to the negotiating documents for New START, as they would have sparked outrage on both sides of the Atlantic that would almost certainly have killed the Treaty. The Telegraph report clearly contradicts repeated claims by the Obama negotiating team that no side deals were struck with their Russian counterparts. Not for the first time, the current US administration has been eager to appease America’s enemies while shamelessly undercutting her allies.
You know that Harry Reid will not call for hearings. Will the Senate Republicans force hearings? Wait and see. One thing we can expect is that the UK media will surely stop giving Obama and preferential treatment, though the UK Guardian is still in the tank for Team Barry at the moment.

Is Obama guilty of Sedition
The Sedition Act of 1918 was an Act of the United States Congress signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson on May 16, 1918.[1] It forbade the use of "disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language" about the United States government, its flag, or its armed forces or that caused others to view the American government or its institutions with contempt. The act also allowed the Postmaster General to refuse to deliver mail that met those same standards for punishable speech or opinion. It applied only to times "when the United States is in war."[2] It was repealed on December 13, 1920.[3]
StartingPage Returns Google Searches Privately
Google and other search engines track what users search; over time, the data collected can be pretty revealing, so much so that the DOJ wants access. For the most part, privacy policies are only as good as the lawyers backing them, and "law of the land" can trump anything. And all of that adds up to worrisome prospects for all of us.
But what if no data were collected to begin with?
That's the approach Starting Page is taking. Starting today, they claim to serve as a sort of middle-man between you and Google that keeps no records or data on their own at all. So even if they were subpoenaed by, say, the DoJ, they'd have none of your search data to hand over. And all Google knows is someone made a search from Starting Page, but there's no way for them to know whose searches are whose. Starting Page even has a Firefox plugin that uses HTTPS for the browser search bar.

Christie Vetoes Planned Parenthood Funding, Calls for Investigation
In the aftermath of the New Jersey Planned Parenthood sting, the question as to whether NJ Governor, Chris Christie, would take appropriate action against the organization has been answered.
Following the release of a video that has received nationwide attention showing Planned Parenthood staff at a New Jersey abortion center helping alleged sexual traffickers cover up their crimes with abortions and STD testing, Governor Chris Christie has vetoed a bill funding Planned Parenthood.
It is to be noted that this is, in fact, the second time Christie has yanked taxpayer funding of the organiztion. Planned Parenthood has already had to close clinics in NJ, due to the funding squeeze caused directly by Governor Christie.
Furthermore, Christie’s office referred the matter to the New Jersey attorney general - who is now calling for an investigation of the incident.
Some in Christie’s primary campaign against Lonegan questioned Christie’s commitment to pro-life principles, but so far Christie has pushed all the right buttons, even going so far as to speak at a pro-life rally on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Now he is hitting Planned Parenthood where it hurts: investigating their corrupt practices and squeezing their pocketbooks.

The DNC’s 2012 Union Convention: The Devil’s Always in the Details For one week of Democrat debauchery, North Carolina may end up paying dearly.
The good citizens of Charlotte, NC are probably still feeling euphoric over besting Cleveland, Minneapolis and St Louis as the chosen city for the 2012 DNC Convention. However, as the giddiness subsides and people begin to take stock of what they just bit off, it may serve them well to check the fine print of the contract(s) they’ve obligated themselves to. If they do, they may find that being a host isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be, especially if your guests turn around and leave your house a mess.
What many North Carolinians are about to find out real soon is this: If you want to play with the Chicago Democrats, y’all are going to have to play by their rules and be expected to pay a hefty price for them too. This includes their union rules.
In fact, just as Charlotte’s Democrat Mayor Foxx could have told Michelle Obama, if you want good barbecue in Charlotte, you’ve got to truck it in—So too are North Carolinians about to learn that Democrats want unions at the DNC’s 2012 convention. And, in order to entice them to support the DNC Convention going to non-union North Carolina, there may have been a little Chicago-style side deal going on to bring unions in from out of state.
Oh yeah. You didn’t think just because unions are fighting turf wars with each other in the three other states, they were going to let Charlotte get off completely union-free, did you?

The FCC goes fishing for an excuse to regulate
So the FCC is having another open meeting on Tuesday, February 8. A tentative agenda for that meeting has been published, and part of it looks dangerous. It’s written in conservative-friendly language, talking about streamlining processes and minimizing the burdens on the private sector, but there could be much more to it than that.

Code Pink: Obama, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood Ally Raising (Tax Exempt) Money to Overthrow Egypt Gov’t
Obama fundraiser group Code Pink issued an emergency appeal on Thursday for thousands of dollars to help the group overthrow the Egyptian government of Hosni Mubarak.
Code Pink, which has a history of working with enemies of the Egyptian government Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, said in the appeal it wanted to raise $5,000 to fund “the next big uprising” against the Egyptian government on Friday.
As we reported previously, Code Pink has been on the ground in Cairo since the beginning of the uprising. The group has made nine trips to Egypt in the past two years as part of a campaign to undermine the Egyptian government and the blockade against Hamas-controlled Gaza.
The headline for the appeal published at the Web site of Code Pink’s fundraising partner Democracy in Action reads:
“Help us raise $5,000 in emergency funds today to support the Egyptian revolution!”
Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin posted on Twitter from Egypt at 3:19 a.m. Cairo time on Friday that more than $10,000 had already been raised.
In the appeal, Code Pink urges supporters to send cute little puppies and kittens to the demonstrators. Not really. They actually urge Code Pink’s dupes to “Send flowers and supplies to the demonstrators!”
Yes, Code Pink wants to replicate the famous 1967 photo of a propaganda stunt where a protester against the Vietnam war placed flowers in the barrels of rifles held by soldiers at the Pentagon:
“The next major demonstration in Egypt has been called for this Friday after prayers. People are desperate for it to be a peaceful mobilization. The demonstrators have a plan to deliver hundreds of flowers to demonstrators, wounded protesters, and to the gun barrels of the Army’s tanks during the next big uprising on Friday after prayers.”
Of course Code Pink has more in mind than just a propaganda stunt. The group also claims that donations exceeding the five dollars requested for flowers will “buy blankets, food and medicines for the protesters in the streets.” Sure.
Code Pink says it is a 501-c3 tax exempt organization and posts the tax ID number 95-4658841 on the fundraising appeal. Code Pink says on the appeal, “Any donation you make over the $5 is a tax-deductible contribution to CODEPINK.”
That’s right. Who knew funding the overthrow of U.S. allies was a tax exempt charitable act?
One has to wonder, how will Code Pink account to the IRS for the expenditures–not that the Obama administration will investigate a group co-founded by Jodie Evans who is one of President Barack Obama’s top presidential fundraisers.
Being that 501-c3 organizations are prohibited from raising or spending money for candidates or partisan political activity, how can it be lawful to raise and spend tax exempt funds to overthrow a government? Again, Code Pink states upfront the money is to “support the Egyptian revolution!”
There is no guarantee that Code Pink will spend the money solely on “flowers…blankets, food and medicines for the protesters in the streets.” As the group says at the end of the appeal, “Our CODEPINK team is on the ground in Cairo doing everything we can to support the movement.” Will the ‘CODEPINK team’ dip into the donations to cover their expenses? Will they be buying hash, cigarettes and liquor in the Cairo streets or hookah bars? Will some of that money be used by protesters to buy Molotov cocktail supplies or worse?
Code Pink has a history of working with and giving humanitarian aid to terrorist groups like Hamas. It passes itself off as non-violent but supports those who engage in violence against America and her allies–especially Israel. Code Pink knows that humanitarian aid relieves pressure on groups to provide the basics to combatants and their families so that the tools of revolution can be bought and morale maintained.
Sure, Code Pink says the money is for flowers, blankets, food and medicine. But who will get the aid? We already know what they will do with the aid–work to overthrow America’s Egyptian ally and staunch defender against Code Pink’s partners Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Labor Force Participation Plunges To Fresh 26 Year Low
At 64.2%, the labor force participation rate (as a percentage of the total civilian noninstitutional population) is now at a fresh 26 year low, the lowest since March 1984, and is the only reason why the unemployment rate dropped to 9% (labor force declined from 153,690 to 153,186). Those not in the Labor Force has increased from 83.9 million to 86.2 million, or 2.2 million in one year! As for the numerator in the fraction, the number of unemployed, it has plunged from 15 million to 13.9 million in two months! The only reason for this is due to the increasing disenchantment of those who completely fall off the BLS rolls and no longer even try to look for a job. Lastly, we won't even show what the labor force is as a percentage of total population. It is a vertical plunge.
'Under-employment' at 19.2%...
Gallup's U.S. employment measures report the percentage of U.S. adults in the workforce, ages 18 and older, who are underemployed and unemployed, without seasonal adjustment. "Underemployed" respondents are employed part time, but want to work full time, or they are unemployed. "Unemployed" respondents are those within the underemployed group who are not employed, even for one hour a week, but are available and looking for work. Results for each 30-day rolling average are based on telephone interviews with approximately 30,000 adults. Because results are not seasonally adjusted, they are not directly comparable to numbers reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which are based on workers 16 and older. Margin of error is ± 0.7 percentage points.

Pro-Life Group Releases Three More Planned Parenthood Videos
The pro-life group Live Action has released three new undercover videos taken at Planned Parenthood (PP) centers in Virginia that it says show a “disturbing pattern of gross misconduct by Planned Parenthood.” “We don’t necessarily look at the legal status, like I said."
Soros’ Media Matters Teams With Planned Parenthood to Rebuff Undercover Videos
Newly released video investigations which seem to show associates of Planned Parenthood offering abortion advice to admitted sex traffickers have caused a PR nightmare for the abortion provider. In response, Media Matters for America, a left-leaning “media watchdog” group funded and supported by billionaire George Soros, held a conference call with Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards and other liberal activists to strategize how best to counter the videos.

FCC Orders NBC Newsrooms To Partner With Soros-Funded Non-Profits
So much for objectivity. One of the FCC stipulations of the Comcast – NBCU merger was the incorporation of non-profit journalism centers into NBC newsrooms. They are charged with maintaining and increasing local news coverage, the regulation based on the relationship between KNSD-TV and VoiceofSanDiego.org.
KNSD airs the segments, but really can’t take all the credit for them. They are largely the work ofVoiceOfSanDiego.org, a local nonprofit journalism center that has been sharing news tips, co-producing and supplying content to the station for several years.
[...]
Under the terms of the FCC order approving Comcast’s takeover of NBCU, at least half of NBC’s 10 O&Os have to find a nonprofit news center with which to work within the next year. The order cites the KNSD-VoiceOfSanDiego.org alliance as the model for what it would like to see in other NBC markets.
Proponents of the growing nonprofit news movement are hoping that NBC’s FCC-mandated efforts will bear fruit and encourage other commercial TV stations to seek out nonprofit partners.
There’s just one problem with this: Voice of San Diego is a member of INN (Investigative News Network) which is funded by the Open Society Institute, the URL of which is “www.soros.org.” Yes, these “non-profit” journalism centers are funded by George Soros.

SEIU Fights Healthcare Repeal after Obtaining Waivers from Law
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is lobbying hard against the amendment offered by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) to repeal the healthcare reform law.
SEIU has sent e-mails to Senate offices urging lawmakers to vote against the proposal to unwind President Obama’s signature domestic initiative.
“A vote in support of this amendment is a vote to raise out-of-pocket healthcare costs for working families and takes away critical consumer protections provided to Americans for the first time,” SEIU urged senators, according to a copy of the e-mail obtained by The Hill.
The lobby informed senators that a vote for McConnell’s amendment would count against them on its legislative scorecard.
SEIU’s outspoken defense of the law has prompted charges of hypocrisy from Republicans, given that some of the union’s chapters have sought waivers exempting them from a key provision of the law requiring the phaseout of health plans with low caps on annual benefits. SEIU

Why the Black Panther Case Matters
Attorney General Eric Holder and his minions, along with some of their slavish apologists in the media, are deliberately trafficking in lies of great note. They prevaricate with great enthusiasm, and they excuse lawlessness with fierce disdain. They -- both the Department of Justice (DOJ) officials and their leftist amanuenses pretending to be journalists -- brazenly ignore the public's right to information, and intentionally distract attention from relevant facts and from their own deep beliefs.

Head Of NC DOT Wants Citizen Investigated For Speaking Up
From my hometown of Raleigh, NC, we learn that dissent is a means to a criminal investigation
David N. Cox says he was merely exercising his right to petition the government, but a state Department of Transportation official has raised allegations that Cox committed a misdemeanor: practicing engineering without a license.
Cox and his North Raleigh neighbors are lobbying city and state officials to add traffic signals at two intersections as part of a planned widening of Falls of Neuse Road.
After an engineering consultant hired by the city said that the signals were not needed, Cox and the North Raleigh Coalition of Homeowners' Associations responded with a sophisticated analysis of their own.
They came up with an 8 page analysis that shows that signals will be needed. That bit of citizen action has annoyed the head of the DOT
It did not persuade Kevin Lacy, chief traffic engineer for the state DOT, to change his mind about the project. Instead, Lacy called on a state licensing agency, the N.C. Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors, to investigate Cox.
Cox has not been accused of claiming that he is an engineer. But Lacy says he filed the complaint because the report "appears to be engineering-level work" by someone who is not licensed as a professional engineer.
Remember the days when one could offer advice without some weenie in The Government giving you a license? But, Lacy says he is not trying to shut Cox up. Anyone buying that? And, yes, the state engineer licensing board is actually going to investigate, and it will take 3-4 months. Someone needs to sue the hell out of Lacy as a representative of the NC government for NC Constitutional Rights violations.

The Interior Department’s culture of contempt
Eco-radical Carol Browner may no longer be on the Team Obama bus, but her departure has done little to change the culture of corruption — and contempt — at 1600 Pennsylvania.
As I reported yesterday, federal judge Martin Feldman kicked the administration’s ass yet again over its rogue drilling moratorium.
My column today zeroes in yet again on Interior Department control freak Ken Salazar. As I’ve said repeatedly over the last two years: The Obama War on the West is a War on Jobs that extends from land to sea based on politicized junk science by executive fiat and czar evasion.

Why Reagan Triumphs Over Other Presidents, Even Today
What always strikes us is how comfortable and secure Ronald Reagan was in himself, on the trail, in the Oval, in meetings with strangers in the Roosevelt Room, in the general give and take of a public life. This authentic wholeness of life made the 'communicating' so compelling, the reducing to core principles so constant, effortless and nearly automatic. His humor, self-reflection and self-deprecation all natural, healthy, transparently honest. A mature man at home with himself and his country, seamlessly.

Islamic socialism is a term coined by various Muslim leaders to meet the demand for a more spiritual form of socialism. The Mindset of Supposed Entitlement
To what lengths will cash strapped Democrat controlled states, counties and municipalities go to fatten their coffers to pay for their inflated budgets? While law enforcement should be chasing “bad guys” – the crack dealer, the murderer, the thief – those types of law breakers only strain an already tight budget filled with this gimme program and that gimmie program. No, all you have to do is follow the money trail. One look at Rhode Island will illustrate just that.

When the Government Switches off the Internet...
Here's an interesting post from PCWorld, advising freedom-lovers on precautions they should be taking now - should the Government "switch off the internet". Note, the technical terminology in this article may go over the heads of many of my readers! Ask your 10yr-old to explain it to you!
Rewriting Ronald Reagan: How the Media Have Worked to Distort, Dismantle and Destroy His Legacy
As the nation prepares to pay tribute to former President Ronald Reagan on the 100th anniversary of his birth, it is amazing to consider that his success at turning the U.S. away from 1960s-style liberalism was accomplished in the face of a daily wave of news media hostility. The media’s first draft of history was more myth than reality: that Reagan only brought the nation poverty, ignorance, bankruptcy, and a dangerously imbalanced foreign and defense policy.

Ecofascist Teacher Makes Example of Six-Year-Old
To instill eco-obedience, our moonbat rulers have to start young, before we're capable of realizing that their rules are arbitrary and meaningless, serving only as an excuse to exercise coercion for the sake of coercion. For example:
A couple in Laval, Que. has sparked a fierce debate over how far schools should go to teach children about environmental responsibility after their six-year-old son was shut out of a kindergarten draw to win a stuffed animal because he had an environmentally unfriendly sandwich bag in his lunchbox.
Marc-André Lanciault said he hadn't heard of the school's draw or any environmental policy until his wife, Isabel Théorêt, was making their son Félix a sandwich and he begged them not to put it in a plastic bag.
"He said, 'No mommy, you can't do that. Not a Ziploc,'" Mr. Lanciault said.
Through tears, the boy told his parents that the school had held a draw to win a stuffed teddy bear and only children who didn't have any plastic sandwich bags could enter. The family normally uses Tupperware, but it was all in the dishwasher, and so they had packed their son's ham sandwich in a plastic bag.
When Mr. Lanciault questioned his son's teacher, she confirmed the school had staged the draw at a lunchtime daycare and that any student with a plastic sandwich bag was excluded. "You know Mr. Lanciault, it's not very good for the environment," the teacher told him.
It doesn't matter whether reusable containers that have to be washed are any better for the environment than plastic bags, which is under debate. The point is to single out those whose parents don't conform to the latest moonbat fad as eco-sinners.
Mr. Lanciault nearly grasps the essence of enviromoonbattery:
"At the end of the day my son doesn't know why he shouldn't use a Ziploc bag. It's not only the bag, it's the whole idea that we're being brainwashed from everywhere. They told us Ziploc bags are bad, so we've stopped thinking about it and just started applying the rule."
There is no reason not to use plastic bags, other than the high priests of political correctness having proclaimed them to be sinful. The point is the same as for religious dietary restrictions: to obey for the sake of obeying in a show of obeisance. Does even a New York Times reader really think that forbidding affordable light bulbs will improve the weather, or that sentencing millions of Third World children to death by malaria is less harmful than essentially harmless DDT?
The targets of environmental proscriptions are chosen more or less randomly. Why not declare that the color orange makes ice caps melt? Or that the letter R threatens the habitat of the delta smelt? It would make as much sense as singling out a small child for ostracization over a sandwich bag.

Obama Renominates Judge with Record of Racial Double Standards
In a further demonstration of the Obama administration’s hypocrisy on racial policy, the president recently renominated James E. Graves for a federal judgeship. Those who have followed the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation scandal at the Holder Justice Department know that his administration’s political appointees have exhibited a blatant racial double standard — they are not interested in prosecuting minority defendants for civil rights violations. Graves apparently has a similarly skewed view of race, which raises further grave concerns that such race-conscious approaches to the law are not only acceptable, but seen as worthy of lifetime appointments by those at the very top of the administration.
Judge Holds Lawless Obama Interior Department in Contempt
The federal judge who struck down the Obama administration's moratorium on deepwater drilling after the Gulf oil spill held the Interior Department in contempt Wednesday, and ordered the federal agency to pay attorneys' fees for several offshore oil companies.
U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman chided the department for its "dismissive conduct" after he overturned the agency's decision to halt any new permits for deepwater projects and suspend drilling on 33 exploratory wells after the Deepwater Horizon blast, which killed 11 workers and triggered the massive spill.
After Feldman overturned the government's moratorium in June, the agency issued a second nearly identical suspension.
"Such dismissive conduct, viewed in tandem with the reimposition of a second blanket and substantively identical moratorium and in light of the national importance of this case, provide this court with clear and convincing evidence of the government's contempt of this court's preliminary injunction order," he wrote.

San Francisco May Ban the Phone Book
San Francisco obviously doesn't like the free markets. Their attack on free market activities continues to amaze me. You may remember SF launched the war against the Happy Meal. Well, now they are launching a war against the phone book. Now remember, phone books are printed by private companies who sell advertising, and while they aren't as common as they used to be--kind of like Newspapers, if you know what I mean--they still are a legitimate form of commerce that SF now wants to outlaw.
On Tuesday, the city’s Board of Supervisors President David Chiu introduced legislation that would ban the unsolicited distribution of the Yellow Pages.
The argument of course overlooks the jobs created by producing a phone book, which are recyclable and made from recycled materials in most cases, and it centers around the environment.
“If we’re serious about the environment, it‘s time we recognize that phone books are a 20th century tool that doesn’t meet the business or environmental needs of the 21st century,” said Chiu.
I think this discriminates, especially against seniors who haven't adopted the Internet as a useful tool for their lives. How are they going to be able to look up doctors and other services if they aren't allowed a phone book? SF is attacking an industry once again, just like they did the fast food industry rather than giving people the freedom to choose whether or not they want a phone book or not.
