Seventy-two killed resisting gun confiscation in Boston!

07/06/2013

Boston – National Guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed by elements of a Para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash, Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement.

Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group’s organizers as “criminals,” issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government’s efforts to secure law and order.

The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.

Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that “none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily.”

Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government’s plans.

During a tense standoff in the Lexington town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists.

Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange.

Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces over matched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.

Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops.

Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as “ringleaders” of the extremist faction, remain at large.

And this fellow Americans, is how the American Revolution began, April 20, 1775.

On July 4th, 1776 these same extremists signed the Declaration of Independence, pledging to each other and their countrymen their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. Many of them lost everything, including their families and their lives over the course of the next few years.

Lest we forget…

Soccermania Update: Brazilian referee reportedly butchered, decapitated after killing player

07/06/2013

Octavio da Silva Catanhede Jordan was reportedly butchered and decapitated by a violent mob last week (Photo: FOXSports.com).
An amateur soccer match turned outright barbaric, leading to the deaths of a match referee and player in northeastern Brazil.

According to multiple reports from Maranhão, match referee Octavio da Silva Catanhede Jordan allegedly stabbed Josenir dos Santos Abreu to death after an argument with the player during a game on June 30.

The 20-year-old referee reportedly had a knife with him at the match and attacked Santos Abreu. The 31-year-old footballer was pronounced dead on arrival by a local hospital.

What subsequently happened was more appalling.

After witnessing the horrific attack, family and friends of the player reportedly invaded the pitch to lynch the referee, who was gruesomely quartered and decapitated by the mob, which later hung his head on a stake.

In an official statement, Valter Costa, police chief of Santa Ines in Maranhão, confirmed the ongoing investigation and assured the public that suspects were being questioned.

“Reports of witnesses have indicated some people that were in place at the time of the fact. We will identify and hold accountable all those involved. A crime will never justify another. Actions like this do not collaborate with the legality of a state law.”

Nevada Family Says Police Occupation of Homes Violated the Third Amendment

07/06/2013

You don't often hear about lawsuits based on the Third Amendment, the one that says "no soldier shall in time of peace be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war but in a manner to be prescribed by law." That usually overlooked provision is cited in a federal lawsuit recently filed by Anthony Mitchell and his parents, Michael and Linda Mitchell—an oddity for which we can thank the Henderson, Nevada, police department. The Mitchells, who live in separate houses near each other in the Las Vegas suburb, were forcibly evicted from their homes on July 10, 2011, by police officers responding to a domestic violence report involving one of their neighbors.

Here is how it all started, according to the complaint: Read the Rest ..

The Department also reported that the economy gained 70,000 more jobs in April and May than it originally estimated. The report, however, also provides clear evidence that the the nation is splitting into two; only 47% of Americans have a full-time job and those who don't are finding it increasingly out of reach.

What Obama Did on His Summer Vacation: Kill 760,000 Jobs

07/05/2013
By John Ransom

(Townhall.com) - Prepare for your electric rates to go up, Chevy Jolt drivers. That's what happens when Obama goes on vacation.

Under executive fiat, the EPA will shortly be forcing the shutdown of the rest of the coal fired plants in the United States. Obama closed about 20 percent of them in 2011 when he went on vacation in Martha's Vineyard.

With a bigger vacation budget this year, he probably figured "What the hell? Why not close the rest of them?"

Since coal generates about half the electricity demanded in the US, the country will have to find other, more expensive ways of making up half of the electrical capacity at a time that the administration wants electric to be the clean fuel of choice.

Ironically, as I posted previously, just a few weeks ago I got a whiney email from the public relations guy at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, complaining that the number of nuclear reactors going up to generate electric is lower than they anticipated.

Maybe Obama doesn’t understand that he can’t import electricity from Brazil. No nuclear, no coal? OK, I get it. This is how Obama bails out his buddies in the solar business, including Buffet and G.E.

That solar costs more and isn't clean probably has some advantages for Obama.

In addition to the loss of electrical generating capacity, the Commerce Department estimated that when they killed just 20 percent of coal fired plants they killed up to 60,000 jobs, according to Heritage, while an industry trade group said that the rules will cost $129 billion, according to the Washington Post.

So that's...carry the two, divide by 5.... That's 60,000 direct jobs in power plants, another 82,000 jobs in mining, and 30,000 jobs in coal transport plus associated jobs.

According to the The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity the new initiatives will cost the country 760,000 jobs in total.

“If the Obama administration fails to recognize the environmental progress the industry has made and continues to adopt more regulations," said ACCCE's head Mike Duncan, "coal power could cease to exist which would be devastating for our economy.”

Since when has Obama ever cared about the economy? Or jobs.

During the 2008 presidential campaign then-Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden both claimed that if elected they would institute policies that make it cost prohibitive for coal-fired plants to operate in the United States.

Looks like this is one promise they’ll keep.

“So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can,” Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle in a clip the paper likely tried to suppress, “it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

While the Obama campaign scrambled at the time to say that their comments were taken out of context, Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association issued a statement that rings true today.

“Senator Obama,” said Carey in November 2008, “has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation's coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to 'bankrupt' our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.”

The administration is using new interpretations of long-ago passed emission standards- standards that no administration has tried to enforce- along with vague, esoteric “visibility” standards to target older, coal-fired plants.

But as Obama tries to shore up his base of support amid blistering criticism from progressive groups on spying, human rights abuses and constitutional issues, look for Obama to continue to use backdoor regulatory means to enforce, ignore or otherwise interpret laws to benefit special interests that support the president’s agenda.

This is how Obama scrapped Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, instructed the Justice Department to ignore enforcement of the Defense of Marriage Act and announced that the administration would be suspending deportation of illegal aliens in an effort to avoid enforcement of immigration laws. Lately, he used the same tactic to delay the implementation of the Big Company mandate provision of Obamacare.

Obama, back in the day been subject to harsh criticism from Hispanic leaders, who are still stuck on the Democrat plantation, after the administration bragged that they deported more illegal immigrants than the Bush administration.

The president has issued more job-killing regulations than any of his predecessors- at least 131 of them in his first term- at a cost of $70 billion just for adoption. Total economic costs of federal regulations are sky-rocketing to $1.75 trillion in 2008 said the federal government’s own Small Business Administration in 2010, the last time they were allowed to calculate such costs. Yeah. that's right. They haven't been willing or able to update the costs since then.

In short, the coal group got it right in November 2008.

President Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short-sighted, inexperienced politician willing to do anything, saying anything and pay anything to go down as the "transformation president."

And I think when the economics of closing coal fired plants clashes with the history of Obama's presidency, history will be influenced by economics, not rhetoric.

Even while on vacation.

Two Competing Political Philosophies

07/05/2013

Happy Birthday, America!

This week we celebrate our country's birth. Patriots honor America as a republic conceived as a polity in which all may live safely and securely in the enjoyment of their inalienable, God-given rights. We are inspired by the high idealism of the Founders and stirred by the poignant remembrance of all those who have fought, worked, and sacrificed to make the USA the freest and most prosperous country in the history of the world.

Our joy may be tempered by the realization that liberty and prosperity appear to be at risk. Particularly dismaying about this challenge to America is that it comes from within.

While the following statement is always true to some extent, today it is of existential importance: there is a battle being waged for the soul of America. It is fundamentally a battle of vision and values, of philosophies and principles. It is a struggle between those who adhere to the founding fathers' noble principles and those who -- whether from personal grudges or delusional self-importance, demoralized character or spiritual dullness, warped intellect or diabolical ideology -- wish to reinvent our beloved republic.

The philosophy of the founders was still predominant in our culture and national spirit in the 1950s. Every week, we heard the announcer of the TV series "Superman" proclaim without irony or apology the Man of Steel's commitment to "truth, justice, and the American Way." By "the American way,"we all knew that he referred to the freedom inherent in those God-given rights cited in the Declaration of Independence. Those who cherish and believe in those same venerable principles today have a philosophy that, if summarized in a single word, may be termed "Americanism."

There are myriad alternative philosophies to Americanism, more than can be listed. What all of them have in common is that they either repudiate American values, ideals, and principles outright or compromise them in some way. To varying degrees, they are illiberal, atavistic, elitist, retrograde, Old World philosophies -- that is, they have been tried before and have been found wanting. They may be repackaged to appear as new, fresh, progressive ideas, but they belong to other times and places. Again, for convenience, I'll lump together these anti-American philosophies under the label "alien," since they are foreign to America's founding principles.

Following is a partial list of the fundamental differences between Americanism and the alien philosophies that oppose it. Feel free to add to this list:

Americanism holds that government and law should be negative -- that is, that their purpose is to thwart evil and prevent the violation of individual rights; thus, law and government have a decidedly limited scope. Alien alternatives view the purpose of government and law as doing good things for people, thereby conferring upon government and law a virtually unlimited scope.

Americanism believes that government should act as an impartial umpire tasked with upholding impartial rules and letting the most talented and industrious reap the economic rewards of their efforts. The alien counterfeit believes in an intrusive, activist government that becomes the dominant economic player and picks winners and losers.

Americanism believes that individual rights are primary and government power secondary (see 9th and 10th Amendments). Alien philosophy believes that government power must supersede individual rights in the name of a "great" or "just" society.

Americanism holds that all men are created equal in the eyes of God -- that everyone is entitled to receive equal legal and governmental protection of their rights. Alien philosophy holds that nature or God -- depending on who its proponent believes is the creator of mankind -- blew it by making us different, and therefore it is up to "enlightened" (read: elitist) government leaders to remedy the defective natural order by making everyone economically equal.

Thus, in Americanism "justice" means equal treatment by the law, not unequal treatment designed to produce greater equality of result. The alien counterfeit version of justice is a corrupt nullity under which "justice" means violating the property rights of some Americans in order to bestow benefits on others.

In other words, Americanism is predicated on the rule of law -- the blind and impartial administration of justice that cares not whether a person is rich or poor, black or white, strong or weak. By contrast, the alien philosophy calls for a system of privileges -- that is, discriminatory laws that rob Peter to pay Paul.

Americanism holds that the legitimate way for individuals to prosper is to earn a living by providing something of value for others, thereby producing the wealth that one consumes. The alien antipode asserts that it is legitimate for individuals to enrich themselves via the political process whereby one may lay claim to wealth that others have produced. The American believes in making wealth, the alien, in taking it.

Americanism respects profits that result from creating wealth for others. The alien inversion rewards political "rent-seeking" behavior, whereby special interests exploit the political process to redistribute wealth and enrich themselves at the expense of others.

Americanism honors private property and upholds voluntary economic exchange as a fundamental human right. The alien attitude is to disparage and abrogate property rights while asserting the moral superiority of the involuntary exchanges effected by government transfer programs (of which there are now 2,235 at the federal level) thereby exalting the value system of criminals and institutionalizing theft as the modus operandi of government.

Americanism's fundamental tenet is that citizens of the Republic are the masters and government the servant. The alien philosophy throughout its long and tragic history exalts government elites as the masters directing the affairs of the people subservient to it.

Americanism includes gratitude for the many blessings we have enjoyed as Americans and, proceeding from a continuing basis of individual rights, a desire to use our liberty to attain a more perfect realization of our ideals. Aliens judge America harshly for having been imperfect and prefer a fundamental transformation into a "brave new world" in which individual rights and the "chains of the constitution" are the great obstacles to their power-hungry, utopian plans for us.

In sum, the American philosophy is liberty; the alien philosophy is tyranny. Ultimately, one or the other will prevail, for the two cannot coexist. We all know the choice we will have to make if our children are to observe their Fourths of July as celebrations of liberty as a living, daily reality rather than as a dim historical artifact.

God bless the USA.

Why Britons should celebrate the American Declaration of Independence

07/05/2013

The flag that the Patriots actually fought under
tells us what they were fighting for
We all know the story of American independence, don't we? A rugged frontier people became increasingly tired of being ruled by a distant elite. A group calling themselves Patriots were especially unhappy about being taxed by a parliament in which they were unrepresented. When, in 1775, British redcoats tried to repress them, a famous Patriot called Paul Revere rode through the night across eastern Massachusetts, crying 'The British are coming'. The shots that were fired the next day began a war for independence which culminated the following year in the statehouse of Philadelphia, when George Washington and others, meeting under Betsy Ross's gorgeous flag, signed the Declaration of Independence.

Pro-Abortion Activist Makes Boy Hold “Stay Out of My Mommy’s Vagina” Sign

The crazy pro-abortion protests at the Texas state capitol have received plenty of attention this week.

The protesters at the Texas capitol have already exploited children by making them hold signs supporting their protest against a ban on late-term abortions. Then the Internet was abuzz with shock and disgust over another sign, along with a video showing abortion activists chanting Hail Satan.

Meanwhile, a little girl is shown in a picture along with pro-abortion protestors holding a sign saying, “If I wanted the government in my womb, I’d f— a senator.”

Now, another picture has surfaced of a little boy holding a sign, that surely wasn’t his idea to hold, saying, “Stay Out of My Mommy’s Vagina.” That an abortion activist parent took the time to draw the sign and make her son hold it and pose for a picture is disturbing.

The picture was posted on Twitter by a pro-abortion activist who goes by the handle SineQuaN0nUSA. Her tweet of the picture follows, though a scan of her tweets doesn’t indicate if she has any relationship to the child depicted.

Soldiers were allowed to walk from door-to-door, house-to-house, searching and confiscating property to their hearts’ content.

Sequestration Cancels July 4th?

Independence Day USA

It continued: “Canceling the July 4th holiday will save states and cities billions of dollars in money that would have normally been spent on Chinese fireworks and large brass bands.”

It’s not funny anymore. Now, with what AP falsely calls the “congressionally mandated” sequester cuts, military bases have done just that. They have cancelled Fourth of July events.

Let’s look at the timeline of some news accounts. Remember that these “massive” cuts total four day’s funding of the federal government. You decide if these cuts were necessary or dramatic, a la White House tour cancellations, designated to foster public opinion against them:

Anti-American Progressive Governor Dan Malloy(D) Tries to Remove Pro-Gun Board Member From Connecticut State Concealed Carry Board

CT Governor Malloy Tries to Remove Pro-Gun Board Member From State Concealed Carry Board
Guns Save Lives
USA --(Ammoland.com)- Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy (pictured above) certainly isn’t making any friends among pro-gun advocates.

First Malloy helped ram Connecticut’s new anti gun laws down the throats of citizens, and now it seems Malloy is trying to stack the deck to prevent more people from getting carry permits in the New England state.

Sounds like Malloy is trying to become Cuomo Jr.

M. Peter Kuck is an outspoken, extremely pro-gun, and longest serving member of the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners in Connecticut. The board hears appeals from people who have been denied carry permits in the state or whose permits are revoked.

Kuck votes to overturn denials of permits more than any other member of the board. Recently, after Kuck’s pro-gun record received more publicity, the governor’s office sent a letter to the board asking them to provide the names of people to replace Kuck.

According to The Courant,

“I looked at that letter and started to laugh,” Kuck said Monday, “because I’ve been there, done that already.”Kuck was originally appointed to the board by Gov. John G. Rowland in 1998. After M. Jodi Rell became governor, she asked the Gun Guild to provide the names of three nominees for the spot. Kuck, who is treasurer of the Guild, said the group replied that it was not obligated to identify multiple nominees, “and if she didn’t like that, we’d send up three names, and they’d be Peter Kuck, Peter Kuck and Peter Kuck.

Kuck suspects the Guild will adopt the same stance this time around.

Gun rights advocates are up in arms over Malloy’s further moves to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of Connecticut citizens.

Gay Rights Suffers a Serious Shiner: Shocking Child Molestation Story

07/03/2013
Written By Laurie Higgins

In 2010, the Australian press, as in thrall to the homosexual community as our ignorant, sycophantic America press is, told the foolishly titled story “Two dads are better than one,” about a homosexual couple who went to Russia to adopt a child. These “fathers” described the obstacles they faced in trying to find a surrogate in the U.S. and the scrutiny they faced when they returned to Australia with their child, all because of the suspicions of authorities who feared that two homosexual men might be pedophiles. The article concluded with this heartwarming quote: “’We’re a family just like any other family,’ [one of the fathers] said with pride.”

Fast forward to 2013. One of these two proud and ostensibly loving fathers, U.S.-Australian citizen Mark J. Newton was just convicted in an Indiana court of “conspiracy to sexually exploit a minor and conspiracy to possess child pornography” and sentenced to 40 years in prison. Newton’s partner Peter Truong awaits trial on similar charges.

Multiple news reports state that there is video of one of the “fathers” performing a sex act on their son when he was two-weeks old. In addition, these men made their son sexually available from age 2-6 to at least eight other men in three countries. They also videotaped these sick crimes, posting the videos on the homosexual pedophile website “Boy Lovers Network.”

This story follows the 2012 story of Kenneth Brandt who adopted three boys and a girl and then raped and prostituted the boys.

And the Brandt story follows the 2011 story of “married” Connecticut couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth who adopted nine boys, five of whom have accused the men of raping them.

I’m going to make the wildly politically incorrect statement that the male homosexual community has a serious problem with pedophilia, including its various incarnations like hebephilia and ephebophilia. To the uninitiated, those terms refer to the predator’s favored age of prey.

The Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal was primarily homosexual in nature. In other words, all of the predators were male and the vast majority of their victims were male.

The Boys Scouts of America sex abuse scandal revealed in 2012 was entirely homosexual in nature, which is to say, male predators were preying on male children and teens.

Though male homosexuals constitute between 3-4 percent of the population, multiple reports suggest they commit a statistically higher rate of sexual abuse than do heterosexuals.

And let’s not forget that in virtually every society in history that accepted homosexuality, the dominant form was between adult males and pubescent boys. If you have a spare minute and a strong stomach, wander around a “gay” website. You will see photo upon photo of youthful, hairless boys who appear to be teens.

Sexual crimes against children are certainly not limited to the homosexual community. And I’m not arguing that all homosexuals are pedophiles. I am arguing, rather, that the homosexual community is not immune to the infection of pedophilia—or what some euphemistically refer to with the neologism “minor-attraction,” which to “minor-attracted persons” is just another “sexual orientation.” (And “sexual orientation” is itself a euphemism concocted to efface the difference between rightly ordered sexual impulses that are consonant with biology and anatomy and disordered sexual impulses that result in sterility and disease because they oppose biology and anatomy).

It just may be true that the community that pridefully celebrates that which is worthy of shame has an even more serious perversion problem than just the sexual desire of men for men.

I wonder if the poor little Russian boy whose mother sold him for 8,000 pieces of silver to evil men who used him as their sex toy will grow up to be sexually attracted to men. Oh wait, that can’t happen because the homosexual community says they’re “born that way.”

For multiple reasons children should not be placed in the homes of homosexuals. First, homosexual acts are inherently immoral. Second, there is evidence that many homosexuals find nothing problematic about sex between adult males and minors of diverse ages. Third, homosexual couples are more unstable than heterosexual couples. Fourth, for many male homosexual couples, fidelity does not include sexual monogamy. And finally, children have an inherent right to be raised by a mother and father—roles that Barack Obama has publicly declared are essential to the lives of children even as he incoherently declares his support for a form of marriage that necessarily presupposes the expendability of either mothers or fathers.

Distrusting Government

07/03/2013

Recent opinion polls demonstrate a deepening distrust of the federal government. That's not an altogether bad thing. Our nation's founders recognized that most human abuses are the result of government. As Thomas Paine said, "government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil." Because of their fear of abuse, the Constitution's framers sought to keep the federal government limited in its power. Their distrust of Congress is seen in the governing rules and language used throughout our Constitution. The Bill of Rights is explicit in that distrust, using language such as Congress shall not abridge, shall not infringe and shall not deny and other shall-nots, such as disparage, violate and deny. If the framers did not believe that Congress would abuse our God-given, or natural, rights, they would not have provided those protections. I've always suggested that if we see anything like the Bill of Rights at our next destination after we die, we'll know that we're in hell. A perceived need for such protection in heaven would be an affront to God. It would be the same as saying we can't trust him.

WATCH: Greenwald: ‘Vast’ Obama NSA Spying Programs to be Revealed ‘That the World Will be Shocked to Learn About’

07/03/2013

Glenn Greenwald, the Guardian reporter who broke the original story about the Obama NSA’s massive spying on U.S. citizens without probable cause, a clear constitutional violation, was interviewed by Eric Bolling on Fox and Friends and indicated that this is just the tip of the iceberg (link to video below):

Eric Bolling: NSA leaker Edward Snowden, speaking out for the first time since getting stuck in the Moscow airport, saying he, quote, remains free and able to publish information that serves the public interest. According to the journalist who broke Snowden’s first story, there is a lot more to come. That journalist, Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian newspaper is my guest this morning. Glenn, thank you for joining us. So you say you have another big NSA scoop. Do you care to break it right here, right now?

Glenn Greenwald: Unfortunately, Eric, you’re going to have to wait along with everybody else until our stories are published, but I will say that there are vast programs of both domestic and international spying that the world will be shocked to learn about that the NSA is engaged in with no democratic accountability, and that’s what’s driving our reporting.

Egypt army says ready to die in "final hours"

(Reuters) - Egypt's high command said on Wednesday the army was ready to die to defend Egypt's people against terrorists and fools, in a response to Islamist President Mohamed Mursi that was headlined "The Final Hours".

The post on the official Facebook page of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), headed by armed forces chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, said: "We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool."

Issued three hours after Mursi appeared on television to reject an ultimatum from Sisi that he share power with his opponents or face a military solution by 10:00 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT), a military source said the statement made clear that the armed forces would not abandon their demands.

Deviously Brilliant: Obama Administration Delays Health Care Law Employer Penalty Until After Mid-Term Elections. BUT Individuals MUST Still Comply

The so-called employer mandate, which penalizes employers with more than 50 employees if they fail to provide a minimum standard of affordable health insurance, was set to kick in in 2014, but now will take effect in 2015, the Treasury Department announced in a blog post first reported by Bloomberg News. The delay not only allows the Administration time to alleviate concerns among business owners, but also takes a controversial component of the law off the table before the midterm elections.

Individuals STILL REQUIRED TO COMPLY...

via Drudge

Looks like someone finally read the bill.

The Obama administration is postponing the ‘employer mandate’ – which would levy financial penalties on businesses with more than 50 employees that fail to provide health insurance that meet the minimum standards and “affordability” — until 2015. The move delays implementation of at least one component of the unpopular law until after the next mid-term elections. A coincidence, no doubt.

Individuals? You’re still on the hook.

Good Guy with a Gun Stops Bad Guy with a Gun

07/02/2013

NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre was famously ridiculed in elite circles for his post-Newtown observation that "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

Well, from the facts-are-stubborn-things department comes this item from Atlanta:

Police say an armed man trying to rob customers outside an Atlanta shoe store was fatally shot by one of the patrons waiting in line to buy sneakers.

WSB-TV reports the shooting happened Saturday morning in the city's Little Five Points neighborhood, where people lined up outside Wish Clothing to buy new $180 sneakers endorsed by Miami Heat star LeBron James.

Witnesses told police a man armed with a gun tried to rob people standing outside the store. But one of the customers drew his own handgun and shot the robber. Police say the suspect ran just a few yards before he fell dead.

Atlanta police officer John Chafee says the shooter won't be charged because investigators determined he fired in self-defense.

I doubt that this lawful act of self-defense by armed citizens--the video report describes two concealed carry permit holders responding to the threat--will break through wall-to-wall coverage of the Zimmerman trial, or even compete for airtime with the latest anti-Second Amendment fulminations by the likes of Barack Obama, Michael Bloomberg or Dianne Feinstein. But 30 Atlantans owe their property and possibly their lives to the courage and preparedness of a couple of their peers, making me thankful that, for now at least, shoe stores are not "gun free zones."
