Hey Overseas Service Members/Expats, Still Waiting On Your Absentee Ballot...?

October 20, 2012
Reaganite Republican

You're not the only one: perhaps some funny business going on with absentee ballots this cycle, even intentional foot-dragging... I know personally of instances where the regular ballot request was sent in 8 months ago, and still nothing- here on the dawn of the most important election in US history.

But you certainly don't have to stand there and have your right to vote taken by those complicit with this vile regime... DO NOT let Obama steal this thing!

Here's what patriots can do to vote NOW (for those of you who haven't received an overseas absentee ballot yet): go to the Overseas Vote Foundation, where one can vote online (or via FAX) and download a Pdf file of the completed Federal Absentee Ballot to send to election officials as hard-copy backup... it's as easy as that!

(If planning on voting for Barack Obama,
please disregard all of the above)

5 Tips on How You Can Accurately Monitor Voter Sentiment (by spying on the Left via Facebook using basic market research techniques)

October 20, 2012

One of the most fun jobs I ever had was working as a market research analyst for a fancy hotel in Cleveland when I was in my 20s; that’s because it involved spying on things the other nice hotels in the city were doing. I remember when I applied for the job I didn’t realize the spying part would be involved, because I thought it was a strictly computer research and analysis position…but during my training I was specifically told to walk around the city every day, pop into the competitor hotels, write down the groups holding conferences or events there, take a rough assessment of how busy the place was, peek into the restaurant or bar to see how many people were eating or drinking there, and see if anything these other hotels were doing was something that the executives at our hotel should know about.

When I’d get back to my desk from these little reconnaissance missions, I’d look up the contact information for the companies who hosted events with our competitors and would make sure these people got packets from our sales team so they’d consider having their next event with us instead…giving them discounts and other incentives to try to snag that business away from the other hotels. I bet today, if I was still working in the industry, we could do most of this more or less online…though I’d hate to think whoever’s doing my old job now wouldn’t have the freedom or fun to bop around Cleveland during the day observing, taking notes, and surreptitiously spying on competitors the way I used to do.

In the last year or so, I’ve really discovered that Facebook is a wonderful tool for doing something like this to the Left…but instead of visiting competing hotels and checking out what events or conference business they had that day I can pop around to various pages and get a good read on what the Left in this country is either up to or feeling.

Today I thought I’d give you a little real-time training on just how much great information YOU, too, can collect by spying on lefties’ Facebook pages and also monitoring entertainment websites to see what Democrat talking points are saturating the public in that moment. The key is to monitor entertainment sites (like EW.com, People.com, AintItCool.com, and Deadline.com) instead of political sites like Daily Kos or Democratic Underground because the latter are really not representative of anything that would be seen by the general public. This is actually true of conservative sites too, which are also only read by people really interested in politics…so while I read these for information and enjoyment myself, I know that the average person on the street has no idea what’s going on at Breitbart.com or on DrudgeReport today. They do, however, know all about whatever the entertainment sites are covering…and what I’m interested is seeing what political points hit the radar of those who really only follow pop culture (and, of course, what these people then say in comments on those articles).

None of this is an exact science, but I think it gives as much insight into the Left as my spy missions in the hotel world used to give me when I was a market research analyst back in the 90s.

Here’s 5 Tips on How I Monitor the Left’s Impact on Voters, and how YOU can do it too:
5. Find a leftist group on Facebook and then start following some of its more rabid and vocal members.

One of the main things I keep telling conservatives is that they need to delete the word “liberals” from their vocabularies and start using the word “lefties” or “Leftists” to describe these people because Democrats PREFER being called “liberals” — so why on Earth do you HELP THEM by using the terminology they’ve approved? When you call them lefties (which is what they are) they howl like vampires doused in holy water. That’s a good thing.

If you notice, few Democrats embrace the word “lefties” or “Leftists” because they know that’s bad branding for the party that alienates independent and undecided voters. The word “liberal”, however, is focus-group tested to sound “open”, “positive”, and “tolerant” to average people who have no negative association with the word. These same focus groups, however, run screaming for the door if people describe Democrats as “lefties” or “Leftists”. If you’re someone who keeps saying or writing “liberal” but you don’t like Democrats winning elections then I am sorry to tell you that you’re a damn fool. You are like the Coca-Cola bottling company running ads that purposefully ask people to drink Pepsi instead. Why you do this, I don’t know, but you should stop it today and never, ever say the word “liberal” again.

To illustrate this to you, I’ll highlight a few groups on Facebook that are great sources of intel for what the Left is up to (and you’ll notice that all of them cloak themselves in the word “liberal” to make them sound more appealing to people who’d be turned off if these groups were referred to as “Leftist” in much the same way that cockroaches sound so much cuter and more appealing when people call them “hug-a-bugs”).

* Being Liberalhttps://www.facebook.com/beingliberal.org This is my first stop of the day, actually, when it’s time to see what nutty things the Left is pushing as talking points.

* Left-Leaning Liberal Ladieshttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Left-Leaning-Liberal-Ladies/196588647060935 As noted above, it’s very rare to see Democrats embrace the term “Left-leaning” (but note how they mitigate this by adding the “Liberal” in there too, for good measure). This is a good place to watch how the Left attempts to gin up anger amongst women by reducing them to talking giant vaginas and claiming that Republicans are evil and want to prevent them from killing their babies in the womb.

* Equality Illinois – https://www.facebook.com/equalityillinois This one is a Chicago-specific thing in the gay community, but Equality Illinois is often used by the Left to take punches at Christians because it’s more legitimate-appearing than an entity like “Being Liberal”; often times attacks on Republicans are originated with something “legitimate” like this group…and then the nuttier operatives out there pick that germ of a story up and run with it on a “Being Liberal” page…and then it builds from there to other sites the Left employes to get information out. Sometimes you can read the tea leaves via Equality Illinois to know what outrage the Left will manufacture in a week or two.

* Defeating Mitt Romneyhttps://www.facebook.com/defeatmitt I bet this one will be around for Romney’s whole presidency (both expected terms), but right now it’s a good source of updates on the things lefties coordinate to malign Mitt Romney. I suggest checking it out because the desperation from these people right now is hilarious. As of this writing on 10/19/2012 at around 200pm CST, they are just starting to understand that Mitt Romney is going to win…so the content on this “Defeat Mitt” page is equal parts fear and loathing…and a bubbling nastiness as the election gets closer and they know Obama is going to lose.

That’s just four groups I keep an eye on. In addition, here in Boystown I also watch the Facebook pages of other gay organizations and bars, since a lot of them post political messages too (which are all anti-Christian and anti-conservative in nature). I monitor the different gay papers and magazines in Chicago and on the national scene.

From these groups, I look for regular commenters who seem really unhinged…people who tend to go overboard and really rant and rave with intense hatred directed against conservatives and Christians. It’s remarkable what you can learn about the Left and its plans just by keeping tabs on the things individual lefties post or repost from others on Facebook. It’s like being able to peek into their brains and see exactly what rattles them…which is helpful for me because then I know exactly what to write about that’s most effective to unhinge them.

The Left ALWAYS telegraphs successful strategy to conservatives, but Republicans are often too stupid to pick up on these “tells”. An hour a day popping around Facebook, however, clearly shows me what upsets the Left, what really rattles these people, and what things I can do the next day to unhinge them all some more.

4. Keep a little spreadsheet of the nuttiest lefties who regularly produce the best intel for you (so you can look up what they are doing in the future and see what they’ve been up to lately).

I can’t give you my list, because I don’t want to burn these sources, but I can show you some examples of people who are excellent resources into the minds of the Left. These are individuals who routinely parrot the Left’s talking points and who spend a great deal of time on Facebook…so often their reactions to events in the news are in real-time and uncensored. That’s really the key to using Facebook to gain insight into the lefties…to find ones who are plugged into Facebook constantly and who enjoy giving their opinions on all sorts of things throughout the day in rapid-fire fashion. They, thus, say and do things that those who aren’t so addicted to Facebook would think better of saying or doing.

* Bruch Reed (who claims to be an actor in New York): https://www.facebook.com/bruch.reed This guy is just completely unhinged. He very often wishes people he doesn’t like were dead, he mocks Christianity on an almost daily basis, and he is prone to a lot of swearing and infantile behavior. For whatever reason, he lives nonstop on Facebook so it’s interesting to check his page after something like a presidential debate and see what the lefties thought of that in real time. Not only do you get to see what this one lefty in New York thought, but his friends leave comments too and you can see what they’re all saying as well. I think I found this guy via Equality Illinois or something when he left a nasty comment there and I realized that he was unhinged enough to really give good scoop on the nastiness the Left employs on a regular basis. Then, through Bruch, I found lots of other lefties to monitor because I spot the most unhinged ones in comments on his posts.

* Tracy Baim: https://www.facebook.com/tracy.baim Tracy is a writer for one of the gay papers here in Chicago, and is actually a nice person. She’s professional, so she doesn’t swear like that Bruch guy does but she also lives on Facebook and posts nonstop throughout the day. She is a good resource for seeing what gay “activists” are trying to push each day in terms of the Democrats’ talking points. I’ve also identified quiet a few other good lefties to follow based on the comments people leave on Tracy’s site.

* Ann Rice: https://www.facebook.com/anneobrienrice?fref=ts It makes me sad, actually, that Anne Rice has gotten so crazy since her husband Stan died a few years ago, but she’s unhinged these days. I used to love reading her Vampire Chronicles books back when I was in college. In fact, I actually realized I was gay and came out a few days after watching Interview with the Vampire in theaters with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise (which remains, to this day, the gayest big budget Hollywood movie ever made). Rice rants and raves completely uncensored on Facebook. Think of things Barbra Streisand would say and do, but then turn the volume all the way up. Whenever Anne is upset about something or is howling, it is a good indication that we are winning in a big way.

My spreadsheet has about 50 people on it and here and there I pick a few to check in with every day right after I look at what’s happening on the lefties’ Facebook group pages. So, getting insight into these people on the individual level is enlightening. It’s one thing to know what a group like the “Being Liberal” people are up to…but it’s more interesting to see how much of that is filtering down to average guys on the ground like that Bruch in New York…or to Tracy, the writer, here in Chicago…or what a lefty celebrity like Anne Rice is going on about today.

Like I said, checking in and seeing these people raging with anger and lashing out is a good thing…because that means Democrats were defeated on something terrible they were trying to do that day or Barack Obama was just humiliated in something else again.

3. In a contemporary log, make notes of the memes and angles lefties seem to most often push on Facebook and how others respond to all this.

I actually have a little journal by my desk that I use to take notes for story ideas. As I am looking through Facebook to see what the lefties are mad about that day, I look for common themes or memes that repeat. Not only do I keep track of the things that make them the maddest, but I also see if they are forwarding the same talking points or articles to their Facebook friends. I purposefully monitor people on Facebook who are all lefties but who are not mutual friends of one another…so that I can see if something one of them does ends up on the other people’s walls eventually too.

It’s fascinating to see things spread from a show like Saturday Night Live or someone like Chris Matthews and then soon all of the lefties’ Facebook pages will be infected with that. The Left is comprised of a great deal of group think, swearing, and raging against anyone declared “an enemy” of the hive.

A lot of what I write is specifically designed to either upset these people or to blunt any attacks they’re percolating against conservatives and Christians.

What the lefties do on Facebook is probably a news cycles or two ahead of what the Ministry of Truth will churn out as Democrat propaganda in the future. It looks like the Left uses Facebook to test a lot of their talking points out…and then it’s all moved onto MSNBC and the New York Times when they see this stuff is effective. Facebook is like the Left’s new focus group test kitchen…which is marvelous because you, too, can use this as a resource to gain valuable insight into these people.

2. Challenge yourself to predict and anticipate what lefties will say and do when certain things flash through the news.

I actually have a lot of fun playing a little game with my boyfriend Justin. Whenever any big story breaks in the news, we try to anticipate what the lefties on Facebook are going to say about it. After doing this for a while, nine times out of ten we’ll be right. That’s not hard, though, because usually the Left will just swear a lot, post vulgarity, and call anyone they disagree with “extreme”, “hateful”, “evil”, “racist”, “homophobic”, or “a liar”. It gets repetitious after a while because this is really all the Left ever says about anyone who stands in their way. It’s Alinsky Rule #13, for those keeping score.

But it’s interesting to use Facebook to show that my gut instincts are usually right…and that the reaction from the Left I predicted they’d give is the one that really does end up being so popular on Facebook.

You, too, can use this valuable resource to keep dibs on the Left and see just how predictable their reactions are to most things.

1. Check the entertainment sites to see which (if any) of the Left’s daily talking points are in fact being picked up unwittingly by the general public.

This is the last part of my day…which is something I usually do right before I got to sleep, because it’s a nice segue from the nastiness of the Facebook postings to the more constrained lefty ramblings on entertainment sites. I usually do these in order of:

* www.EW.com — a good mix of people that only skews a little to the Left; I look for any article that could have a political lean to it and see what people say in comments about either Obama or Romney. The less vocal the support for Obama or the weaker attacks on Romney mean these people realize Obama is losing. I’ve noticed this trend for the last year, but from 2008-2010 it was nonstop Obama cult worship on this site. Those days are long gone.

* www.Deadline.com — these are mostly Hollywood professionals posting, and they are controlled and reality-based. The love affair with Obama ended at this place about two years ago. Consensus is that Obama is indeed going to lose so they are already talking about how they will pivot themselves career-wise in a new administration.

* www.AintitCool.com — straight male lefties mostly. A lot of them are around 18-25 I think. Lots of talk of boobies and wanting to rape conservative women or murder them. Lately there’s been very little political talk, though. When it does happen in an article, it’s nothing positive about Obama…just people calling Romney too rich or a liar. They never say what he lies about though, they just call him a liar. That’s because Romney is not old and does not come off as evil, so they can’t call him that. He’s also clearly not stupid, so that’s out. So they call him a liar according to Alinsky Rule #14. More often than not, the lefties on this site get shouted down by people who are sick of Obama and just want to have jobs and paychecks again.

* www.People.com — very, very, VERY low information people come to People.com. Idiots, really. If a story is being talked about THERE, of all places, then I know 80% of the public knows about it. This site is only for people who hate reading in general, don’t really like the news, but have opinions on the Kardashians or Lindsay Lohan, etc. If they start talking about something political then I know everyone at the grocery store or McDonalds was talking about it and that people stealing carts from the Wal-Mart for scrap metal know about it too.

I want to close by reminding you that very few Americans read political websites or really follow much of the news. If you do, you’re part of the 20% who stays actively informed. The rest of the country is more influenced by their friends and families and pop culture than they are political writers like me or what we do at this site. That’s true of everyone on the Left, too, though…as most of them get their info from their own friends or through their celebrities in pop culture.

That’s why Republicans need to be more active online and in pop culture in general…because like it or not, this is where opinion is being formed.

I will say, though, that base don my market research analysis of all this that the opinion being formed by voters this year is very much that Barack Obama needs to be one and done and not win reelection.

Don’t take my word for it, though: go out and conduct your own research and report back in comments below what YOU discover too.

Wow: MSNBC Pussy Lawrence O’Donnell Fights Like A Little Girl

October 20, 2012

Left's frustration causing meltdown. MSNBCommie who couldn't beat his way out of a dike bar, threatens one of Romney's children.

Dear MSNBC,

Tagg Romney’s comments about ‘taking a swing’ at the president for his suggestion that his father was a liar do not represent a very dignified move by a presidential candidate’s son, but the actions and words of your ‘pundit’ are downright childish, immature, rude, and – most importantly – unprofessional.

I want to break this down for you: The host of one of your shows literally offered to fight the son of a presidential candidate. Is this the kind of behavior you want to promote? Is violence an ideal your network stands behind?

Lawrence O’Donnell’s ignorant comments concerning Tagg Romney’s name were some of the most idiotic comments I have ever heard in my entire life. A name is a collection of letters by which someone is referred; if this is the argument your network supports, your network will soon be out of business. That is an extremely lame argument. Both presidents’ names are unconventional, so does that discount them in any fashion? No.

Furthermore, wannabe UFC fighter Lawrence O’Donnell’s bragging that he has thrown punches and fought during his Boston upbringing is downright embarrassing. Violence and fighting are not to be condoned in any circumstances, especially during this time in which you are promoting political divisiveness. Who wins a fight? No one, because everyone involved ends up looking like a fool for falling victim to anger.

Lawrence O’Donnell has every right to disagree with Mitt Romney, Tagg Romney, and any of their statements, but to suggest that he wants to fight someone is disgusting. I hope your network finds Mr. O’Donnell’s ignorance as offensive as we do, and you should take action to fine, suspend, or fire this host that has clearly promoted violence.

Sincerely,

IJ Review

Obama on Foreign Policy: Tax the Rich

Oct. 20, 2012
Townhall Finance

Another bright idea. Brought to you by the letter "O"

As we run up to the final debate- this one on foreign policy- the establishment media hopes that it will be a defining moment in the Obama presidency.

But we already know that Obama’s speech- disguised as a debate- will contain nothing new.

His foreign policy will be based on a simple premise:

“If the rich were taxed at the same rates they were half a century ago,” said Obama senior advisor David Plouffe last year, “they’d be paying in over $350 billion more this year alone, which translates into trillions over the next decade. That’s enough to accomplish everything the nation needs while also reducing future deficits.”

Yes: Tax the Rich, the War on Women and Hope but no Change is all the administration has, foreign policy-wise.

Let’s blame Benghazi on the rich guys.

Doubt it? Just wait. He’ll make it the cornerstone of his argument next week.

And why should he stop there?

Obama has no other solution than taxing rich for any problem facing America.

Rep. Jan Shakowsky, (D-IL), the most far left member of Congress, walked point for just such a “tax-the-rich” bill as Obama will lay out the rest of the way.

She called it the “Fairness in Taxation Act.”

Schakowsky isn’t just Orwellian, either. She is a real honest to goodness socialist- not the closet variety like Obama.

Schakowsky gave the keynote speech at a 2004 dinner held by the Democrat Socialists of America (DSA). Prior to that, in 2000 she received the Eugene Debs award from the DSA, honoring the memory of Debs in “her dedication to the fight for a just society.”

For the uninitiated, Eugene Debs (1855-1926) was and remains America’s most famous socialist. He ran for president under the socialist ticket four times between 1904 and 1920, the last run from prison.

Imagine the coincidence: Rep. Schakowsky’s husband also served time in a federal prison. Debs served for resistance to the draft; Schakowsky’s husband, Robert Creamer, served five months in 2006 for tax evasion and bank fraud. So obviously the Schakowsky household is very familiar with the tax code.

“Join me tomorrow morning in Rosemont,” said Schakowsky today on Facebook, “as we Protest the Romney-Ryan vision for America. Rumor has it that a certain big visitor from Sesame Street will also be making a surprise appearance.”

It’s not surprising that after the GOP got a budget deal done for the balance of 2012 and then-Budget Chair Republican Paul Ryan introduced an ambitious attempt to reduce the national debt that Obama would trot out his own version of fiscal “responsibility”- by taxing the evil rich.

It’s not surprising either that Obama’s version of fiscal responsibility would be touted by federally-subsidized puppets- and I’m not talking about Big Bird and company.

What is surprising is that Democrat-Socialists muppets like Schakowsky are already protesting Romney-Ryan like they’re a foregone conclusion.

That’s because shallow is the best way to describe Obama the man, the president, the policy wonk, the executive.

"The least we can do is meet our responsibilities to produce a budget," Obama told a crowd in Pennsylvania last year. Unfortunately the president didn’t even do the least he could do.

He hasn’t produced a real budget in three years… not one.
He chastised Republicans for "playing games" with the budget but they are the ones who got a budget done, while Obama spent his time making green energy speeches and prepping for meeting with backers like Al Sharpton.

During the Democrat National Convention in Denver in 2008, the Republican National Committee, handed out cards calling Obama "a mile high and an inch deep," during their Not Ready tour.

The RNC might want to correct their original measurement.

Obama hasn’t looked even an inch deep… not one.

Sharia courts ‘as consensual as rape’, House of Lords told

October 20, 2012

MUSLIM women in Britain are being forced to “live in fear” because of the spread of unofficial and unregulated sharia courts enforcing Islamic rules, the House of Lords was told.

One study estimated that there are around 85 Sharia bodies operating in Britain Photo: Paul Grover
Rulings by informal religious “councils” and tribunals are sometimes no more “consensual” than rape, peers were told.

The warnings came in the first ever full Parliamentary debate on the subject in the UK.

Baroness Cox, the independent peer and Third World campaigner, last year tabled a private member’s bill in the Lords setting out plans to rein in a network of unofficial self-styled “courts” which apply Islamic principles.

One study estimated that there are around 85 Sharia bodies operating in Britain, although there is no official estimate.

They include legally recognised arbitration tribunals, set up primarily to resolve financial disputes using Islamic legal principles but which have taken on a wider range of cases.

There is also a network of informal Sharia “councils”, often operating out of mosques, dealing with religious divorces and even child custody matters in line with Islamic teaching.

The bill, which had its first full debate yesterday, would make it a criminal offence for such bodies to style themselves as courts or those chairing them to pose as judges.

It would also limit the activities of arbitration tribunals and explicitly require them to uphold equality laws including women’s rights.

Baroness Cox told the House of cases she had encountered including a woman who had been admitted to hospital by her violent husband who had left her for another woman but still denied her a religious divorce so she could remarry.

Another woman was forced to travel to Jordan to seek permission to remarry from a seven-year-old boy whom she had never met because she had no other male relatives, she said.

A third who came to see her was so scared of being seen going in that she hid behind a tree whole another told her: “I feel betrayed by Britain, I came to this country to get away from all this but the situation is worse here than in my country of origin."

Baroness Cox said: “These examples are just the tip of an iceberg as many women live in fear, so intimidated by family and community that they dare not speak out or ask for help.”

Meanwhile Baroness Donaghy added: “The definition of mutuality is sometimes being stretched to such limits that a women is said to consent to a process when in practice, because of a language barrier, huge cultural or family pressure, ignorance of the law, a misplaced faith in the system or a threat of complete isolation, that mutuality is as consensual as rape.”

Lord Carlile, the legal expert, was among those backing the bill but the Bishop of Manchester urged caution arguing that it could end up “stigmatising those individuals in communities it is aiming to help”.

And Baroness Uddin, the first female Muslim peer, said it would be viewed as “another assault on Muslims”.

Lord Kalms, the businessman, claimed that self-styled Sharia courts had already reached far beyond mediation to areas such as criminal law.

“To my knowledge, none of these cases has ever received police attention or investigation, and this is a scandal for which the police, among other authorities, must be held responsible,” he said.

Is Obama Buying the Election With His Welfare Explosion?

October 20, 2012

With the unprecedented budget explosion of means-tested, welfare-related entitlements, does Team Obama think it can buy the election?

It's a cynical question. But I wouldn't put it past that cynical bunch.

Remember Harry Hopkins, Franklin Roosevelt's close aid? It was Hopkins who argued tax and tax, spend and spend, elect and elect. Sound familiar? And if I'm not mistaken, the high-tax, anti-rich, big-spending, redistributionist FDR is one of Barack Obama's idols.

So let's take a look at some of the recent budget-explosion data points:

According to Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, means-tested welfare programs soared to over $1 trillion last year. The federal government accounted for $750 billion of that, while $250 billion came from the states, which leveraged federal payments into even larger expenses.

Between 2008 and 2011, federal welfare payments have jumped 32 percent. Food stamps have surged, with 71 percent more spending on the program in 2011 compared with 2008. Health payments, principally Medicaid, have climbed 37 percent.

By the way, it's not just the deep recession and weak recovery that's driving up these programs. It's a substantial eligibility expansion, which started under George W. Bush, but has gone much further under President Obama.

In a larger budget context, reporter Jeffrey H. Anderson uses a Treasury Department study to chronicle the 7-Eleven presidency. In fiscal year 2012, ending Sept. 30, the government spent nearly $11 for every $7 of revenues taken in. The exact figures are $2.5 trillion in tax revenues and $3.5 trillion in spending. In other words, it spent 44 percent more than it had coming in.

Previous fiscal years look even worse: The government spent 56 percent more than revenues in fiscal year 2011 and 60 percent more in fiscal year 2010.

All in all, according to Anderson, the government under the Obama administration received $6.8 trillion in taxes and spent $10.7 trillion -- 56 percent more than it had available.

What's going on here is fiscal profligacy on the grandest scale in American history. And there are consequences.

Massive amounts of capital are being drained from the private sector and transferred to the government. This is one reason why American businesses have gone on a virtual capital-investment strike. Small businesses, in particular, can't get the capital being drained by Uncle Sam.

After four years of trillion-dollar deficits, both businesses and individuals have held back investment because they fear massive tax increases are on the way. That's a big reason why the so-called recovery has been so weak.

In addition, in our new entitlement nation, growing government dependency is ruining the very moral fiber and backbone of America's traditional work ethic. Increasingly, the feds are paying more to not work, rather than providing after-tax incentives to go back to work.

Mitt Romney has taken a lot of flak for raising the issue of growing government dependency. But however inartfully he may have expressed his view, his basic story is correct. The sheer volume of spending going on in this country is bringing us ever closer to bankruptcy.

And consider this: The spending explosion for means-tested welfare programs is outpacing spending on Social Security and Medicare, which are themselves veering toward bankruptcy.

I may be too cynical about Obama trying to buy the election with this entitlement explosion. Perhaps. But Obama wants to raise taxes in order to spend more on government unions and entitlement programs. It is redistribution, but it could be vote-buying, too.

House Armed Services chairman blocked from getting answers from senior military about threat warnings prior to Benghazi consulate attack

October 20, 2012

(Washington Free Beacon) - The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee is demanding answers from four senior United States military officers about whether there was advance warning of terrorist threats and the need for greater security prior to last month’s terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

However, an aide to the chairman, Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, (R., Calif.), said the office of secretary of defense Leon Panetta blocked the senior officers from providing the answers last night.

“The chairman is disappointed that the administration won’t respond to this basic request for information,” the aide said.

“It is nearly unprecedented that the office of the secretary of defense would prohibit a member of the uniformed military from answering direct questions posed by the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.”

Pentagon spokesman George Little told the Free Beacon: “We received the letters last night and are working expeditiously to provide a response.”

The chairman’s letters are dated Thursday. They were sent to Gen. Carter F. Ham, commander of the U.S. Africa Command, which is responsible for military activities in Africa; Adm. William H. McRaven, commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command; Vice Adm. Kurt W. Tidd, director for operations at the Pentagon’s Joint Staff; and Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

McKeon asked the officers to provide answers to questions about security threats by the close of business Friday.

The questions reveal that there may be information within the military revealing warnings about terrorist threats and the need to increase security that were ignored by the State Department or other civilians within the Obama administration.

McKeon asked each of the four officers in separate letters whether prior to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi anyone under their command had notified the State Department or other agencies about growing dangers in Libya.

“Given the steadily deteriorating threat environment in Libya prior to Sept. 11, 2012, did you or anyone in your command advise, formally or informally, that the Department of State or any other agency take action to increase security for U.S. personnel in Libya?” McKeon asked.

He also wants to know if there were any requests to increase security in Libya for U.S. personnel.

Also, the letters to the four officers asked whether any military officers under their command had recommended “deployment of additional U.S. military forces to Libya due to the threat environment.”

Other questions focused on determining if the officers were aware that officers under their command recommended increasing security in Libya prior to the deadly attack on the consulate that killed Amb. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

“To your knowledge, has the Department of State or any other federal agency requested additional U.S. military forces to augment security for U.S. personnel in Libya?” McKeon asked.

Since the attack took place five weeks ago, McKeon said he wanted answers by the close of business Friday.

The committee aide said the chairman also had asked for a briefing on events leading up to the attack, and so far the Pentagon has failed to provide the briefing.

McKeon, according to the aide, does not believe any failures related to the deadly terrorist attack can be traced to the U.S. military, which has a limited presence in the region, including special operations engaged in counterterrorism operations.

“He believes it is important whether or not the State Department and the administration were using all the information available at the time” on the terrorist threat and the dangers to U.S. diplomats and intelligence personnel.

McKeon sent the letter as a supplement to an earlier letter to President Obama sent by McKeon and seven other House Committee chairmen, which sought details on the intelligence leading up the attack, security for personnel, and the role played by former Guantanamo detainees in the attack.

The House leaders said in that Sept. 25 letter that administration statements attributing the attack to protests spawned by an anti-Muslim film disturbed them. They emphasized that the consulate murders were “a terrorist attack.”

“Decades after al Qaeda attacked our embassies in East Africa, which catalyzed a series of events that led to the attacks of 9/11, it appears they executed a highly coordinated and well-planned attack against us again,” the Sept. 25 letter states.

“Clearly the threat from al Qaeda and affiliated groups has metastasized; yet we do not appear to be learning from the past.”

The House leaders said it appears the administration has reverted to a past policy of treating terrorism as a criminal matter “rather than also prioritizing the gathering of intelligence to prevent future attacks.”

The Number of Obama Supporters Who Have Never Heard of the 9/11 Benghazi Attack Will Terrify You

October 20, 2012
TheBlaze.com

Americans everywhere are wondering how the Obama administration will be able to recover from such a significant and deadly intelligence error in Benghazi, Libya. The White House reportedly ignored multiple calls for additional security at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, even after the U.S. and international intelligence community warned of increased terrorist activity in Libya.

Ultimately, U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans lost their lives in a fiery terrorist attack on the 9/11 anniversary.

To make matters worse, the Obama administration repeatedly blamed an anti-Muslim YouTube video for the attack for nearly two weeks, citing a make-believe demonstration outside the U.S. compound in Libya. Of course, it was later revealed that radical Islamic terrorists were behind the attack and the video had nothing to do with it.

However, as it turns out, some of Obama’s supporters don’t even know the Benghazi attack occurred in the first place — and as they say, what you don’t know can’t hurt you.

Revealing Politics went to an Obama event at Ohio University on Oct. 17 and asked a number of the president’s supporters about the Benghazi attack. The conservative site says “most of the event attendees” had never heard of the terrorist act.

“So, what do you guys think about the situation in Benghazi?” an interviewer with Revealing Politics asks two girls.

“I have no idea,” one of them replies, giggling her head off.

One man said he thinks “the Republicans” were responsible for the attack while an alarming number of others could not identify Ambassador Stevens or recall a terrorist attack occurring in Benghazi.

South Korea picked as HQ of new U.N. Green Climate Fund

October 20, 2012

OSLO (Reuters) - A new U.N. fund meant to manage billions of dollars to help developing nations combat climate change will be based in South Korea, leaders of the fund agreed on Saturday.

The Green Climate Fund is to be sited in Songdo, Incheon City, South Korea, the board of the fund said. Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Poland and Switzerland had also sought to be the headquarters.

Developed nations agreed in 2009 to raise climate aid, now about $10 billion a year, to an annual $100 billion from 2020 to help developing countries curb greenhouse gas emissions and cope with floods, droughts, heatwaves and rising sea levels.

So far, there has been no discussion by the fund about how to raise $100 billion, from public and private sources. The fund is now empty and the economies of many developed nations are struggling.

The decision will be put to environment ministers for approval at a meeting in Doha, Qatar, from November 26-December 7.

International charity Oxfam welcomed the decision to site the fund in South Korea and urged action to fill it.

"South Korea must work to get all developed countries to make immediate pledges to the Green Climate Fund at Doha," Oxfam climate change program manager David Waskow said.

"The millions of poor people who need help coping with extreme weather events and destroyed harvests cannot afford for another U.N. Climate Conference later this year to close with the question of funding for adaptation still unresolved," he said.

South Korea has been favored partly as a bridge between rich and poor nations, diplomatic sources said.

Its strong economic growth meant it joined the OECD, the club of rich nations, in 1996. Under definitions laid down by the 1992 U.N. climate convention, however, it is still among developing nations.

From Richard:

Hello, I just found your website and I’ve got it on my Favorites already.

I am a registered Independent and I put a Romney sign up in my front lawn last week, as did a number of folks in my neighborhood here in Jacksonville, FL. Of course, there were a number of Obama signs as well.

From our Homeowner Assn, I received an email noting that someone’s Romney sign was cut a few days ago. A day later, the same thing happened.

Then, someone cut my Romney sign… the next morning, here is the sign I put on my lawn… I thought you’d get a kick out of this.

Democrats on Benghazi and Cuba--“Same as it Ever Was”

October 20, 2012

“I said we’d refocus on the people who actually attacked us on 9/11—and today, al-Qaeda is on the run and Osama bin Laden is dead.” (U.S. President Barack Obama, October 11, 2012.)

“Let’s be clear, these protests (in Benghazi) were in reaction to a video that had spread around the region. We have no information to suggest that it was a preplanned attack.” (White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, September 14, 2012)

Let’s fast-reverse almost exactly fifty years:

(These missiles are) "nothing but refugee rumors. Nothing in Cuba presents a threat to the United States. There's no likelihood that the Soviets or Cubans would try and install an offensive capability in Cuba." (a sneering National Security Advisor, McGeorge Bundy, on ABC's Issues and Answers, October 14, 1962.)

"There's fifty-odd-thousand Cuban refugees in this country, all living for the day when we go to war with Cuba. They're the ones putting out this kind of stuff (about missiles.)"( a sneering President John F. Kennedy, Oct. 15th 1962.)

For months prior to Bundy and Kennedy’s scoffing against the Cuban missile-mongers, dozens of Cuban exiles had been risking their lives by infiltrating Cuba and bringing out eyewitness reports of what remains the biggest military threat to the U.S. in its history. In the process, some of these Cuban boys were also dying by firing squad and torture at the hands of Castro and Che Guevara's KGB-tutored secret police.

Exactly 24 hours after President Kennedy’s sneer against these Cuban exiles, U-2 photos sat on his desk showing those "refugee rumors," pointed directly at Bundy, JFK, and their entire staff of Ivy League wizards.

The Obama Administration’s stupidity (and/or cover-up) regarding the Benghazi attack was exposed almost immediately. But how many of you were aware of the above “insights” by Kennedy and his “Best and Brightest?”

Thought so. And the reason is not far to seek. In 1962 we relied almost exclusively on the mainstream media. It sounds impossible, but John F. Kennedy was served by media toadies every bit as obsequious as those slobbering over Obama today. This collusion created a “slobbering love affair” and elevated political charade to a level Obama and his staffers can only envision in their sweetest dreams. This racket was made possible, of course, because no alternative media then existed.

The alternative media dug up and exposed much chumminess by “reporters“ Candy Crowley and Martha Raddatz with Obama. But in their day “reporters” Sander Vanocur, James Reston and Ben Bradlee boasted openly about much closer chumminess with President Kennedy. And nobody batted an eye.

“The Ugly American –the bully and boor--has it coming,” seems another constant in the Democratic world-view. To wit:

“It is an extremely offensive video directed at Mohammed and Islam. Extremists and terrorists used this as an excuse to attack a variety of our embassies, including the one -- the consulate in Libya. (U.S. President Barack Obama Sept. 12, 2012)

“The unrest we’ve seen around the region has been in reaction to a video that Muslims, many Muslims find offensive.” (Jay Carney Sept. 12, 2012.)

Now let’s fast-reverse to an interview President John F. Kennedy gave French journalist Jean Daniel on October, 24th, 1963:

"I believe that there is no country in the world, including any and all the countries under colonial domination, where economic colonization, humiliation and exploitation were worse than in Cuba, in part owing to my country’s policies during the Batista regime…I will even go further: to some extent it is as though Batista was the incarnation of a number of sins on the part of the U.S. Now we shall have to pay for those sins.”

Kennedy was describing a nation with a higher per capita income than half of Europe, the lowest inflation rate in the Western Hemisphere, the 13th lowest infant-mortality on earth and a huge influx of immigrants. In 1953, more Cubans vacationed in the U.S., than Americans vacationed in Cuba. In 1959 U.S. investments in Cuba accounted for only 14 per cent the island’s GNP, and. U.S. owned companies employed only 7 per cent of Cuba's workforce.

But no alternative media was around in 1963 to rub Kennedy’s face in the imbecilities he was spreading as gospel. Instead the Communist-hatched lies were accepted as truths by millions of Americans who the media monopoly of the time had rendered none the wiser.

And if the Obama/MSM deceptions (with a straight face) about “what he knew and when he knew” regarding Benghazi seem scandalous, consider the following:

18 months after he botched the Bay of Pigs invasion a guilt-stricken JFK ransomed the surviving Bay of Pigs freedom-fighters back from Castro’s dungeons. On Dec. 29, 1962, these Cuban freedom fighters, many on crutches others in wheelchairs, gathered with their destitute and traumatized families in Miami’s Orange Bowl to hear President Kennedy address them. “I am here today not to be honored—but to pay honor,” intoned the U.S. President. “I know of no men in modern history who showed more courage under more difficult conditions than those before me today.”

The president continued in this vein and upon completing his tribute the Cuban freedom-fighters handed him their sacred battle flag, a gesture which surprised and seemed to deeply move the U.S. president.

“I promise to deliver this Brigade banner to you in a free Havana!” he beamed at the freedom-fighters and their loved-ones.

The stadium erupted: “CUBA LIBRE!” yelled the delirious crowd while hugging and cheering and sobbing. “CUBA-LIBRE!” yelled men (and boys) who’d snickered in the face of KGB torturers weeks earlier, but now wept openly. The hour of liberation seemed nigh. “The Leader of the Free World,” after all, was promising it!

But two months earlier this same “Leader of the Free World” had made another promise, to the Butcher of Budapest:

“The United States of America gives assurances that there will be no invasion of Cuba, not only by the US but also by other countries of the Western Hemisphere. This is the essence of our agreement.”

Respectfully Yours, N. Khrushchev. Moscow, November 20, 1962.

Half a century later we know which promise Kennedy kept.

Will Soccer Violence Become a Gateway to Terrorism in the United States?

October 20, 2012

ESPN: Fan attacks Chris Kirkland during game>>

This is just the latest violent act in the political game commonly known as football soccer, a competitive contest known for hundreds, if not thousands of years for premeditated attacks of terrorism, murder and spontaneous reactions, including rioting, stampedes and assassinations.

Press Association via AP Images
Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland crumples to the ground after he was struck by a Leeds United fan, as other fans also ran onto the pitch.

Personally I am baffled at the need for, and even more so, the appeal for a civilized society such as the United States. A country whose number #1 sport just so happens to be a form of football. The NFL is synonymous with American sports. Even the SuperBowl's popularity among non-sports fans is huge. SuperBowl parties and celebrations are everywhere. And gambling? Money changes hands from the beginning of the season, right on up the The Big Game... And we haven't even mentioned a word about college football's popularity!

Enter soccer. While the game has been played in one form or another since the days of the Roman Empire, organized soccer appeared in the mid 19th century via "Association Football".

Enough for the history lesson. Anyone whose visited this blog quite possibly knows it is mostly copy and paste with and occasional one-liner containing a thought on topics that rattle my cage. The need for soccer's popularity in the USA has troubled me even before I knew what a blog was.

We could argue for days, exactly at what point soccer became popular in the United States. Soccer always kinda seemed to be just "there".  In high school sports during the 70s, my alma mater couldn't persuade enough kids to try out to form a practice squad, let alone a team.

Here's where I may lose you. So before you bail, allow me to say, "it's been real". OK, for the rest of you, here is my edited, conscienceless opinion...

More and more each day, children with young impressionable minds are not only brainwashed by the socialist political agenda of the National Education Association, taught by forced on them by the government union educators who drum lies in their heads like how the Democrats care about the poor and Republicans care about the rich, every aspect of their lives is now being transformed against the will of their parents to fit perfectly in a socialist society. Thought policing, political correctness and the mythical "all-accepting tolerance" are only part of attitude that children are expected to be display in the new global community of tree huggers.

These socialist interests, once ingrained in a child's behavior, are meant to create an expected response. Soccer is increasingly becoming the shared global sport preferred by socialist regimes. And the expected response is the taunting and violence accompanying it.

But wait, the United States doesn't have the violence at soccer matches that socialist countries do.

That is correct.... But for how long?

The face of America is changing rapidly. In the pursue for political correctness or need to stay in power with the aid of illegal voters, weak border protection and a next to non-existent screening process there are now more Hispanics living in America than blacks. Along with which comes many diseases foreign to American soil. A topic for another day...

As our culture shifts so shall the interests. Allow me to be the first to say, without enough lawsuits or government seizing it's assets or requiring it's wealth redistribution, soccer will not be running the NFL out of town any time soon. The NFL is the biggest obstacle to soccer's success in the USA.

But don't think for a moment that fact will stop the growth of soccer, only slow it down. The borders remain porous and as the population expands, more and more mini-socialists are being developed.

Foreign cultures increasingly becoming embedded in the American society will inevitably bring the overseas type of violence to the game of soccer as it grows in popularity.

GAME ON!

Judge rules Kountze High School cheerleaders can put Bible verse banners at school

Chalk one up for Free Speech!!!

October 19, 2012

HARDIN COUNTY, Texas -
A Hardin County judge has decided that high school cheerleaders can paint Bible verses on banners.

The controversy began when cheerleaders at Kountze High School painted the verses on their banners for football games. The Freedom From Religion Foundation complained that the signs violated the First Amendment that prohibits establishing a religion.

In September, the school district told the cheerleaders not to paint any more Bible verses on banners. The cheerleaders filed a lawsuit district court. The judge allowed the cheerleaders to keep making the banners until he announced his decision.

The Texas Attorney General said the banners are made without school money and are free speech.

Attorney General Greg Abbott said, "We will not allow atheist groups from outside of the state of Texas, to use menacing and misleading intimidation tactics to try to bully schools to bow down at the alter of secular beliefs."

Police: Drug dealer with EBT card had $15K cash

October 19, 2012

'I can't find a job,' he tells police during arrest

HAVERHILL — Shortly after police charged Richard Chase with selling illegal drugs, they said they searched his apartment and found $15,000 in cash, hundreds of Oxycodone pills, a police scanner and a list of area police scanner frequencies.

Before he was arrested, Chase used his government-provided EBT card to buy food at a convenience store, police said. When he was arrested, police found the Electronic Benefits Transfer card — otherwise known as food stamps — on him along with a receipt for his purchases. Chase told police “you got me” and said he’s been unable to find a job.

During his arraignment yesterday in Haverhill District Court, the 6-foot, 1-inch 355-pound Chase reached from side to side while handcuffed in an effort to pull up his pants, which appeared to be falling down. Throughout the hearing, he faced a rear wall, keeping his back to the courtroom, and spent most of the time looking out a rear window and sometimes at the judge.

“This is someone who used an EBT card about an hour before he was arrested,” Assistant District Attorney John DePaulo said. “He has a nine-page record, he has access to cash, and Mr. Chase has been dealing with this sort of thing for years and years.”

Chase, 55, who up until yesterday lived at 12 Freeman St., third floor, was arrested Wednesday after police arranged to have an informant buy Oxycodone pills from him. During yesterday’s hearing, a woman addressed the court and said she owned the building where Chase was renting a room and that she wanted him out. Judge Stephen Abany approved her request to evict Chase, who responded by saying he would have one of his adult children remove his things from the apartment.

DePaulo asked the judge to hold Chase on $100,000 cash bail, saying he’s been dealing drugs for years, is known to police and has served jail time in the past.

“Police have been investigating Mr. Chase for some months and as a result of this continuing investigation detectives set up surveillance in different known locations where he hangs out and where we’ve received numerous complaints from citizens,” DePaulo said.

Chase is charged with possession of a class B narcotic drug with intent to distribute, distribution of a class B drug, trafficking in drugs over 200 grams, failure to stop for police, and driving to endanger. A police report said his record with the Board of Probation shows he was convicted in 1998 in Boston Federal Court of distribution of cocaine; and that he was convicted in 1995 in Haverhill District Court of distribution of class B and class D drugs, as well as possession of class A and class B drugs with intent to distribute.

Reading from a police report, DePaulo said police arranged for an informant to drive to Central Plaza on Wednesday and meet Chase to buy 20 pills from him. While police Sgt. Dana Burrill hid in the back seat, police said Chase walked up to the vehicle and sold 10 pills to the informant for $60, which police had provided the informant from a narcotics drug fund.

After the sale, Chase returned to his green 1996 Lincoln Town Car, which was parked on Bethany Avenue, and drove off, police said. A chase ensued onto Ginty Boulevard, where Chase drove over the median strip and was driving on the wrong side of the road, police said. The chase continued up Main Street and onto Summer Street, where Chase finally stopped. Detectives Thomas Howell and Sonny Greenwood also took part in the pursuit, according to the police report.

Police searched Chase’s car and seized 119 5-mg Oxycodone pills, according to a police report. Police searched Chase and found $60, 10 Oxycodone pills, his EBT card and a receipt for items he bought with the card.

According to the police report, while transporting Chase to the police station for booking, Burrill said to him, “You should have known better after all these years,” to which Chase replied, “I can’t find a job.”

During questioning, Chase was evasive about his address and said he no longer lived on Freeman Street, according to the police report. Det. Michael Shinners visited the three-story building where police believed Chase lived, the report said. A tenant told Shinners he did not know anyone by the name of Chase. Asked if he knew anyone who drives an older green Lincoln, the man described Chase and said he lives on the third floor, the report said. The man escorted Shinners to a third-floor apartment and pointed to an apartment door. He told Shinners that Chase had been living there for about a year and that he “is always on the phone,” according to the report.

Another tenant said Chase often sits in his Lincoln outside the building and that he meets with many people who walk up to him or stop their cars and meet with him, police said.

Shinners waited for other detectives to arrive before they executed a search warrant for Chase’s apartment. Police seized $15,247 in cash, 932 5-mg Oxycodone pills, a police scanner and a list of area police department frequencies, and a large number of door keys with tags that appeared to be for businesses in Amesbury, according to a police report.

Court-appointed defense attorney Amanda Barker asked the judge to impose an “affordable” bail amount. She said Chase has adult children in the area and is not a risk to flee. Abany reviewed Chase’s court record and said that to his credit, “he doesn’t seem to default much.”

“But to his detriment, his nine page record is littered with convictions for the same thing,” Abany said in reference to Chase’s past convictions on drug charges. “And as the prosecutor pointed out, it seems he had $15,000 on him.”

Abany said there appeared to be a 10-year gap in which no charges were brought against Chase. DePaulo responded, saying, “I just found out he spent 10 years in federal prison in Maine.”

Abany ordered Chase held on $100,000 cash bail. He said Chase’s attempt to elude police during the car chase was “not a good sign.” A probable cause hearing is Nov. 14. Abany issued Chase a 60-day warning, meaning if he posts bail he must stay out of trouble or risk being held without bail for up to 60 days.

LIFE BEHIND THE PINE CURTAIN: Judge sets atheist holiday day

October 19, 2012

— In a small town in East Texas, an atheist filed a case against Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney from up North to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge, a lifelong resident of East Texas. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood and objecting to the ruling said, "Your honor! How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and other religious holidays.

“The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and other atheists have no such holidays,” the attorney argued.

The judge leaned forward in his chair and slowly said, "But you do. Your client, counselor, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said," Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, “Psalms 14:1 states, 'The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.'

Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his holiday. Court is adjourned."

You gotta love an East Texas judge who knows his scripture.

WH Lists Prisoner Re-Entry Programs as Budget Priority--for Black Families Only

October 19, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - The White House’s fiscal year 2013 budget includes $831 million for Department of Justice prisoner re-entry programs, which are designed to help inmates who have been released from prison find a job and to reduce recidivism rate.

Take a look at the Obama White House’s Office of Management and Budget, and you’ll find the program is mentioned under the fact sheet on key issues titled, “
An Economy Built to Last and Security for African American Families.

However, there is no mention of prisoner re-entry programs under any other header – not under the fact sheet on
middle class families, Latino families, Asian-American families, or giving a hand up to low-income families.

The program began in 2004 under the George W. Bush administration as a way to help ex-prisoners by linking them with faith-based and community institutions to help them find work.

According to an
archived version of the Bush White House website page, $25 million was originally allocated to the program, which was jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Department of Justice, and various private organizations.

Fast-forward to the Obama administration, and the program has ballooned to $831 million, including $80 million for grant assistance under the Second Chance Act, which Bush signed into law on April 9, 2008.

The
Second Chance Act “authorizes federal grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, housing, family programming, mentoring, victims support, and other services that can help reduce recidivism.”

Also included in the $831 million for prisoner re-entry programs is “$21 million for residential substance abuse treatment programs in State and local prisons and jails,” according to the OMB website.

The budget also gives $85 million to the Department of Labor for programs that “provide employment-centered services to adult and youth ex-offenders and at-risk youth.”

According to the
Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2010, there were 588,000 blacks, 499,600 whites, and 345,900 Hispanics incarcerated for more than a year.

FIRST ON WVVA: Local miners told mines are being idled

October 19, 2012
WVVA TV Bluefield Beckley WV News, Weather and Sports PINEVILLE (WVVA) - A number of miners in southern West Virginia employed by Mechel-Bluestone have received news this week not to come back to work until further notice, WVVA News has learned. A miner at one of the affected mines -- Double Bonus Mine on Pinnacle Creek Road in Pineville -- tells WVVA News that the miners there were told Thursday the mine was being idled until further notice. The miner says the affected workers were told they could file for low-earning unemployment and that a timetable for return was uncertain. At least four other underground and surface mines in the area were said to be affected, including Frontier Mine in Coal Mountain, and Paycar Mine in Kimball. Despite multiple attempts by WVVA News -- both by phone and in person -- Mechel-Bluestone officials could not be reached for comment. Typically, businesses that conduct layoffs must file what is called a 'warn notice' to Workforce West Virginia, so they are prepared to assist the affected workers. However, when filing for low-earning unemployment, a warn notice is not necessary. Mechel is a Russian-based coal and steel producer, founded in 2003 according to the company's website. Mechel-Bluestone is headquartered in Beckley. Source: WVVA

The 7 Most Trivial Campaign Issues That Obama Has Embraced

October 19, 2012

John Hawkins
Townhall.com

"You’ve seen, as middle-income people in this country, incomes go down $4,300 a family, even as gasoline prices have gone up $2,000. Health insurance premiums, up $2,500. Food prices up. Utility prices up. The middle-income families in America have been crushed over the last four years." -- Mitt Romney

"We don’t have to settle for what we’re going through. We don’t have to settle for gasoline at four bucks. We don’t have to settle for unemployment at a chronically high level. We don’t have to settle for 47 million people on food stamps. We don’t have to settle for 50 percent of kids coming out of college not able to get work. We don’t have to settle for 23 million people struggling to find a good job. If I become president, I’ll get America working again. I will get us on track to a balanced budget. The president hasn’t. I will. I’ll make sure we can reform Medicare and Social Security to preserve them for coming generations. The president said he would. He didn’t." -- Mitt Romney

Like him or not, you have to admit that Mitt Romney has at least centered his campaign around the issues that matter. He has spent most of his time focused on the economy, jobs, the debt, and foreign policy. On the other hand, Barack Obama's entire campaign has been one long circus of trivialities. Instead of making "Forward" his campaign slogan, he should have used something more appropriate like, "Hey, look over there!" How bad has it gotten? This bad.

1) Binders Full of Women: During the second debate, while Mitt Romney was explaining how he managed to put "more women in senior leadership positions than any other state in America" as governor of Massachusetts, he mentioned that women's groups brought him "whole binders full of women." That insignificant comment, which doesn't even qualify as a gaffe, produced lots of dull "try hard" liberal humor on the Internet, but Barack Obama has become so desperate that he's actually bringing it up on campaign stops, "I’ve got to tell you, we don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women, ready to learn and teach in these fields right now" -- says the man who hired Hillary Clinton because she was married to the right guy and then tossed her under the bus to cover his behind on Libya.

2) Lady Parts: Barack Obama's official campaign website ran a "someecard" that said "Vote like your lady parts depend on it."

Wow, how presidential.

Oh, and does Ann Romney know that Mitt is anti-lady parts or more shockingly, does SHE JUST NOT CARE? Oops, better be careful or that line might turn up in an Obama campaign commercial.

3) Sandra Fluke: As part of their "war on women" meme, the Democrats trotted out 30 year old student, Sandra Fluke, who demanded that the government force the Pope to spend thousands of dollars a year to supplement her birth control. This was not the smartest issue to land on with both feet in the first place since it ended up alienating the Catholic vote, but it was truly bizarre to see the Democrats embrace Sandra Fluke so fully that they gave her a high profile speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention. A 30 year old ne'er do well who's demanding that the government give her free stuff she should be paying for herself is an all too apt symbol of what Barack Obama has spent his last four years doing.

4) Big Bird: Liberals and conservatives have long disagreed on the wisdom of borrowing billions from China in order to give corporate welfare to PBS, but the Obama campaign has turned the issue into a central plank of its campaign. Yes, we get it. As long as Barack Obama is President, the 8-10 billion dollars that PBS is slated to get from the government over the next decade is safer than the nuclear football. This turned out to be such an embarrassingly insignificant meme to latch onto that even Jon Stewart mocked Obama for it, which is sort of like being called sleazy by Larry Flynt.

5) Seamus the Dog: The Obama campaign spent a surprising amount of time trying to stir up outrage about Mitt Romney putting his dog Seamus in a pet carrier attached to the roof of his car. Romney was taking his family on vacation and wanted to take the dog along, but there wasn't room inside the car. So, like millions of other Americans have done in the same situation, he put the dog carrier on the roof. This continued until conservatives noted that Barack Obama actually ATE A DOG once and for all we know, might still enjoy a bit of Pickled Pugs Feet topped with Greyhound Poupon from time to time. Suddenly, the Obama campaign wasn't so interested in talking about dogs anymore.

6) Ann Romney's Horse: Of course, Seamus wasn't the only Romney pet that the Obama campaign tried to turn into an issue. Believe it or not, the Democratic National Committee actually ran ads attacking Ann Romney for having a horse, which she used as part of her therapy for multiple sclerosis. Can you imagine the ads they'd probably be running if the Romneys had any gerbils?
