Obama's Most Dangerous 'Enemies' are Being Targeted

MAY 28, 2013

There is a pattern emerging in the Obama Presidency. He is at war with reality; his greatest enemies are facts. And he has been targeting for years a small group of people whose duty is to expose the truth. Their loyalty runs to the citizenry and not to Barack Obama. They are not Republicans and they are certainly not journalists. And Obama has been trying to muzzle them. One man stands in the way.

Inspectors General (IG) are government employees who are responsible for ferreting out mismanagement, fraud and corruption in the federal government. The Barack Obama presidency has provided them with a target-rich environment. They are responsible for uncovering a wide range of Obama failures.

These include:

New Evidence Shows Trayvon's Life Unraveling

May 28, 2013

This past Thursday, George Zimmerman's attorneys released new evidence relevant to the upcoming trial of their client on a second-degree murder charge for the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

The Martin family attorneys say the evidence is irrelevant. They are wrong. It is damning. The text messages and photos from Martin's cell phone tell a story wildly at odds with the one the State of Florida and the media have been peddling for more than a year, but one altogether truer and sadder.

Stupid

May 28, 2013

“You’re stupid,” is not something even his most severe critics usually say to President Barack Obama. But on Friday morning I picked up the Wall Street Journal and learned that the president had given a speech about the war on terror saying, “This war, like all wars, must end.”

That story was at the top of the front page. Immediately below was a photograph of flowers being laid at a makeshift memorial near the Woolwich Royal Arsenal where machine gunner Lee Rigby was hacked to death by terrorists.

This war, like all wars, must end when someone wins it. The president—speaking at the National Defense University, of all places—said, “the core of al Qaeda . . . is on the path to defeat.” And so it may be. But meanwhile, the core of al Qaeda, its aims and its beliefs, is also on the path to Boston and London and any number of other places.

On page 7 of Friday’s Journal was the headline, “Suicide Bombings in Niger Linked to Mali Islamist Group.” On page 9 was a report of terrorist Hezbollah militias aiding the terrorist Assad regime in attacking the rebel-held Syrian city of Qusayr where the rebels themselves are allied with yet more Islamic terrorists. And on pages 4 and 8 were more bad tidings from that perpetrator, abettor, and friend of terrorism, Iran. Iranian fundamentalists, in the chokehold they have on the country’s political system, are improving their grip. And, “according to current and former U.S. officials,” Iran has “escalated a campaign of cyberassaults against U.S. corporations. . . . The hackers were able to gain access to control-system software that could allow them to manipulate oil or gas pipelines.”

All that on a slow news day.

In 2001 Congress passed the Authorization for the Use of Military Force, a declaration of war on terrorists and nations that harbor them. In his speech the president said, “I look forward to engaging . . . in efforts to refine and ultimately repeal the AUMF’s mandate.”

I like the president’s use of the word “efforts” here, as though he’s merely trying to be stupid. He doesn’t need to try. Earlier in the week he signed new policy guidance for drone strikes. In the future we will use lethal drones only on terrorists who are a “continuing and imminent threat to the American people” and not on terrorists who are a “significant threat to U.S. interests.” Although, assuming tremendously stupid efforts will be made to tell the two kinds of terrorists apart, maybe I’m wrong about the president not needing to try. The policy guidance also stipulates that there “must be a near certainty” that civilians won’t be killed or injured in a drone strike. Imagine how stupid a WWII Army Air Corps briefing officer would have had to be to say that to his B-17 pilots.

Maybe we pundits don’t tell President Obama, “You’re stupid,” because we are proudly showing off our sensitivity to the negative stereotypes that hurtful language engenders in a way that we didn’t feel was necessary when we were telling Ronald Reagan, George Bush and George W. Bush, “You’re stupid,” even though actors, WASPs, and Texans are burdened with their fair share of negative lamebrain stereotypes.

More likely it’s because we pundits prize signs of intelligence. We take every opportunity to display our own signs, and President Obama exhibits the same wordy, wonky, academic intelligence indicators that we do, so we don’t call him stupid.

As if the two things were mutually exclusive. I know quite a few fellow members of the news analysis and commentary business, and I have it from the highest-placed sources, on the record, that each and every one of our children is a genius. And yet, if we pundits were to gather together our sons and daughters, during their teenage years, and close them for a night in a dimly lit room full of beer and drugs and comfy futons, I can assure you that evidence of stupidity would be found the next morning.

But the most likely reason that we don’t call President Obama stupid is that it’s such a cul-de-sac of a word. Stupid gives the pundit nothing to perform punditry upon. Call a man ignorant and you have license to show the world your vast fund of knowledge and wise him up. Call a man misguided and you transform your column or blog post or TV appearance into a valuable and beneficent German shepherd with a handle on its back and you lead the poor soul in his blindness. Call a man, best of all, wicked and you get to don the sacramental vestments, climb into the pulpit and thunder forth with such a sermon as to bring him weeping to the font of righteousness or cause the Lord God Almighty to strike him with a thunderbolt in his pew or something fun like that. But call a man stupid and . . . there it is.

And there it is: Dopey stimulus, obtuse bailout, noodle-headed Obamacare, half-wit Dodd-Frank, damfool IRS Tea Party crashers, AP and Fox News beset by oafish peeping Toms and the Benghazi tale told by an idiot. One could go on. Stupid is a great force in human affairs. And the great force has a commander in chief.

Liberal Article: What If the Next President Is Even Worse?

May 28, 2013

George W. Bush in 2001 declared war on a tactic (terrorism), and empowered Big Brother to tap phones, launch drones and indefinitely imprison people without due process.

Barack Obama in 2008 declared those Bush policies an overreach, and pledged to curb drone strikes, protect media freedoms, and close the prison at Guantanamo Bay. Instead, he escalated drone strikes and spied on the media. Gitmo is still open for its grim business.

These are facts. And yet, they are distorted by extreme and narrow-minded partisans, supporters of both Bush and Obama.

IRS gives Fla. Miccosukee Indians $170mil tax bill

May 28, 2013

Is this an attack on a Native American tribe’s “sovereignty?”

The Internal Revenue Service, under attack in Washington for alleged political favoritism during the past couple of years, has assessed the Miccosukee Indians of Florida with a $170 million tax bill for failing to report and withhold taxes from its distribution of gambling profits to tribal members.

The Miccosukee Indians operate a successful casino in the west Miami-Dade County of Florida. They use casino profits to distribute funds to tribal members.

The IRS has ruled those funds are really income to recipients and the tribal leadership should be taking out federal withholding taxes on that money. The tribe disagrees and that forms the basis for the dispute.

“The Miccosukee people will continue to pay all applicable lawful taxes, as they always have, and we will continue our efforts to find a fair and workable solution to this dispute,” Miccosukee Chairman Colley Billie wrote in a statement to the Miami Herald newspaper.

Under federal law, the Miccosukee Tribe is considered a sovereign nation, meaning the entity itself is not subject to taxes. But what about the tribal members?

In the opinion of some members of the legal community, tribal members, just like all other American citizens, are responsible for reporting income and paying taxes. Therefore, the tribe, in making these distributions, must withhold taxes on the income and turn the deductions over to the IRS.

In 2011, when this issue arose, Bernardo Roman III wrote the IRS saying that the distributions at issue are not subject to federal income taxation and therefore not subject to federal reporting and withholding under applicable Supreme Court precedent.

But the problem is expected to escalate.

So far, the IRS says the tax liabilities cover the years 2000 to 2005. Auditors are now auditing the distributions that cover the years 2006 to 2010.

'The world is in a state of financial war' - Russian presidential advisor

5.28.2013

Vedomosti reports that Sergey Glaziev, the economic mastermind behind the Eurasian Union, sent an official report to Kremlin, stating the necessity of a radical revamp of Russia’s economic policy in the wake of the second wave of global economic crisis. “Unknown sources” have provided the media with the contents of this highly controversial document, igniting a fierce debate in the press and blogosphere.
Read more: http://english.ruvr.ru/2013_01_18/The-world-is-in-a-state-of-financial-war-Russian-presidential-advisor/

Glaziev’s report features apocalyptic predictions in regard to the state of the world economy but the most interesting part of the text refers to the so-called “currency wars”. Basically, one of the most influential advisors of the Russian president accuses both the US and EU of “legalized aggression” through unbridled monetary emission. Vedomosti cites several fragments from the report, “As a key point of their anti-crisis policy, they are refinancing their banks using negative real interest rates” and meanwhile “1.5 trillion dollars, 1.2 trillion euros and comparable amounts of yen and pounds are used to finance debt pyramids and acquire real assets across the world”. Western banks are accused of blocking their debtors in “debt traps”, with the ultimate goal of “obtaining political control” and “seizing the real assets” of the debtors.

Sergey Glaziev considers that such a policy is actually a form of legalized aggression and that the world is in a state of financial war. According to the conclusions of this report Russia “cannot win this war” without some major changes in its own economic strategy. Vedomosti reports that Vladimir Putin assembled a crack team of experts from Russian Academy of Science with a mission to create a brand new economic policy. Glaziev is reported to be the team’s liaison in the president’s administration, while the team itself is led by Alexander Nekipelov, a member of Rosneft’s board of directors.

According to the preliminary conclusions of this team, a radical revamp of Russia’s economic policy could lead to spectacular results. Glaziev’s report indicates the following key elements required for sustainable growth: radical increase of the savings rate, investment in breakthrough technologies (up to 4% of the GDP), and creation of a strong and self-sufficient banking system. Although the nation’s economy is considered a top priority, national problems cannot be solved without mitigating some of the global risks. According to the Russian media, the report contains a warning regarding the risks of a global military conflict, “The conservation logic of the current financial and political system leads to a further escalation of military and political tensions, including the start of major war”. There are solutions mentioned which serve as recommendations to avoid this outcome. A reform of the global financial system, spearheaded by Russia, is reported to be one of those solutions. It remains to be seen whether this initiative will gain support from other developing countries.

10 Musicians Who Should Be Blacklisted By Conservatives

5.28.2013

John Hawkins | May 28, 2013

"Always remember the first rule of power tactics: Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have." -- Saul Alinsky

Republicans spend too much time complaining about liberals boycotting the advertisers on conservatives’ shows and not enough time doing the same thing to the Left. If movie stars trash conservatives, we should be very publicly telling people we're not going to their films and we should take credit if they bomb. If a corporate CEO embraces liberalism, don't buy that company’s products and tell the world why you're doing it. Let him explain to his board of directors why standing up for gay marriage or abortion was worth losing millions of dollars. Seventy percent of the country is Christian, roughly half the country supports the Republican Party and forty percent of Americans are conservative. There are a lot of businesses, artists and musicians who simply cannot survive without the support of people like us. The only reason they dare to trash us or publicly support people who hate our guts is because we all too often shrug our shoulders and then willingly hand over our money to people who despise us.

When it comes to musicians who attack conservatives, Christians, Republicans, America -- or alternately, embrace the Left, don't give them your money. Don't buy their albums or their T-shirts and don’t go to their shows. Even if you do like their music, don't pay for it and don't talk it up publicly. Fans are oxygen for these people -- starve them of it and let other musicians start to worry about the reaction if they go after us.

That's not unfair; it's just restoring balance. People who rely on the goodwill of the general public shouldn't be trashing the people who pay their bills. Artists should be flattered, not outraged when Republican politicians want to use their songs. Conservatives in the music industry shouldn't be cowed into silence by threats and abuse while liberal musicians smear the conservatives, Christians, Republicans and patriots who buy their records with no repercussions.

Because the musicians have gotten away with doing fundraisers for the Democrats, trashing us without paying a price and generally crapping all over everything we believe in while they trumpet liberalism to the skies, it would take an entire website to catalogue everyone who deserves to be on this list, but here are 10 to start with. It's a free country and these musicians can say what they want, but consumers can also spend their money where they want, too. Let some of these musicians start to see the impact of trashing us on their bottom lines and you will be surprised at how fast attitudes will begin to change.

1) "Kill those f*cking Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives Kill those f*cking Yankees who ordered them to torture Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers Kill them all slowly and painfully." -- Psy

2) "My main concern is that (The Tea Party is) really fear-based. What’s coming out of the Tea Party most often, especially if you go onto YouTube, and you see some of the interviews with these people who really don’t even know what the issues are, they’re just swept up in the fear of it and the anger of it. They’re not sure what they’re angry at; they don’t understand what’s happening on Wall Street. They haven’t educated themselves, but they’re just pissed off. And I understand that, I’m pissed off too. But knowledge is power, and anything less than that when it comes to anger can be dangerous." -- Sheryl Crow

3) "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." — The Dixie Chicks on George Bush at a London concert

4) "This presidential election is different than the last one because President Obama has a four year record to run on. Last time around, he carried with him a tremendous amount of hope and expectations. Unfortunately, due to the economic chaos the previous administration left him with, and the extraordinary intensity of the opposition, it turned into a really rough ride. But through grit, determination, and focus, the President has been able to do a great many things that many of us deeply support.

...Right now the opposition’s resort to voter suppression in so many states is not receiving as much attention as it deserves. I believe that all of us, of whatever views, should be opposing these anti-voter, anti-citizen efforts.

Right now, for the President to be effective in his next term he needs our increased support and he needs support in the Congress, where some sterling candidates, such as current Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, challenger Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, and so many others, are fighting to make their constructive voices heard.

...Right now, we need a President who has a vision that includes all of our citizens, not just some, whether they are our devastated poor, our pressured middle class, and yes, the wealthy too; whether they are male or female, black, white, brown, or yellow, straight or gay, civilian or military." -- Bruce Springsteen

5) "No one’s talking about how to keep the other side home on Election Day. It’s a lot easier than you think and it doesn’t cost that much. This election can be won by 200,000 votes. You target (Bush’s) natural constituencies. For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you’re an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion.” — Kerry supporter Moby explains his unique political strategy — just making things up." -- Moby

6) "I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama." -- Madonna

7) "House Republicans state firm opposition to any new limits on firearms or ammunition. How much more death will we have at their hands?" -- Bette Midler

8) "Republican Super PACs are pounding President Obama and Democratic candidates with millions of dollars of vicious attack ads. And, they could tip the balance of the election for Tea Party extremists.

That would be a disaster for America and we can’t let it happen. We must close the funding gap.

That’s why I’m urging you to donate $3 or more to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) today." -- Barbra Streisand

9) "Don't mistake me, I clearly see that (Paul) Ryan has a whole lotta "rage" in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only thing he's not raging against is the privileged elite he's groveling in front of for campaign contributions." -- Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine after Paul Ryan said he was a fan of their band

10) "George Bush doesn’t care about black people." -- Kanye West

Rand Paul: Obamacare Diagnostic Codes List 'Turtle Injuries, Walking into Lampposts'

5.28.2013

Sen. Rand Paul, Obamacare foe and medical professional, says there are some strange new diagnostic codes in the healthcare law set to go into effect in January 2014.

While there are 18,000 diagnostic codes under the current system, "under Obamacare they're going to keep you healthier because there's going to be 140,000 codes," Paul said at an Iowa Lincoln Day dinner in early May.

Some in the crowd gasped at the increase. But they began to laugh when Paul, R-Ky., began outlining some of the new codes, the Daily Mail reported.

See video below.

Injuries from animals account for 312 of the new codes, he said, with 72 of them coming just from birds.

"Nine new codes are for injuries from the macaw," Paul said. "The macaw?"

And two new code are for injuries from a turtle.

"Now, you might say, 'Well, turtles can be dangerous,'" Paul said. "But why do you need two new codes? Your doctor needs to inform the government whether you've been struck by a turtle or bitten by a turtle."

Noting that some people at the event were consuming alcohol, Paul pointed out that other new codes include "walking into a lampost" and "walking into a lamppost, subsequent encounter."

"I guess that's if you don't learn," Paul said.

One that seemed to defy explanation; injuries sustained from burning water skis.

Concealed Handguns License holders in Texas can now carry any category of handgun

5.28.13

AUSTIN, Texas - (AP) - The Texas Legislature has changed the law for concealed handgun license holders to allow them to carry any category of weapon.

Lawmakers gave the bill final passage on Sunday and the measure now goes to the governor for his signature.

Previously, people licensed to have concealed handguns could only carry the type of pistol they used during their training and qualification.

The new bill allows license holders to carry any type of handgun, regardless of what category of weapon they used to qualify.

The Legislature has already passed a law reducing the number or hours of training needed to receive a concealed handgun license in Texas.

Clashes in Lebanon while Kerry blackmails Bashar al-Assad

MAY 24, 2013

While at least four persons have been killed and about 35 others were wounded in the recent clashes in the Lebanese city of Tripoli, which is located in the northern part of the country, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in his latest statement that the U.S. administration will increase its support for the opponents of the Syrian government if the Syrian President al-Assad is not prepared to discuss a political solution in order to end the civil war within Syria.

This means that the United States might increase its support for religious fanatics, terrorists, mercenaries and strangers in Syria if the Syrian government in Damascus is not willing to debate a so-called political solution for the Syrian conflict. Although many reports from the recent months have confirmed that the Syrian government is ready and willing to discuss such a solution for the crisis in the country.

Obama prom pictures surface

More than 30 years after he graduated high school, President Obama's senior prom pictures have emerged in public, featuring the president when he was 17 years old, clad in a white sport coat and a lei, posing for pictures with his friends.

The photos, obtained by TIME, show Mr. Obama, then a student at Punahou School in Hawaii, hanging out with his date Megan Hughes, his friend Greg Orme, and Orme's date Kelli Allman (then McCormack), according to Allman, who provided the photos to TIME.

"It was a really fun, happy time. We were all cracking up, and everyone was smiling," Allman told TIME. "It was pretty typical from there out as far as what happens at prom: the dinner and the dancing and the photos."

Allman also provided to TIME a photo of Mr. Obama's signature in her 1979 yearbook, in which the now-president complimented Allman as "sweet and foxy," and offered to buy her lunch.

WTF?!?! HOMELAND SECURITY TEACHING KIDS TO GO TO FEMA CAMPS IN A TIME OF CRISIS!!!!

May 24, 2013

Public schools in cooperation with the department of homeland security are now teaching kids safety measures, and advising that they seek relief in FEMA camps in a time of crisis. But are these post disaster relief camps, or military internment camps?

FEMA , the Red Cross, and the department of homeland security are now using taxpayer money to educate children in public schools about ‘getting ready for disaster’. But why would government agencies hold interest in this? Is it because they want schools to be safer, or because they want citizens to flee to FEMA camps in a time of crisis?

A disaster that very well could be orchestrated by a government agency, one might add. So what are these ‘disaster relief’ camps like? A quick google search for ‘FEMA camps’ would turn up thousands of results. Yet contrary to what one may think, leaving these camps may not be voluntary.

In fact, a leaked document signed by Joyce E. Morrow (administrative assistant to the secretary of the army) suggests that disaster relief camps may actually be military internment camps. The document is titled ‘internment and resettlement operations’ , and it describes these camps in great detail, stating that ‘civil support is the department of defense support to civil authorities for domestic emergencies. Civil support includes operations that address the consequences of natural or man-made disasters, accidents, terrorist attacks, and incidents in the U.S.’ .

To sum it up, this leaked document confirms plans by the department of defense to operate internment prison camps for citizens during a crisis . But why would they need a crisis to imprison large amounts of people, and why would they imprison large amounts of people in the first place? But the real question is, do these prison camps tie in with FEMA?

And if so, is FEMA preparing children in public schools to accept going to an internment camp if there is a disaster? Perhaps the military internment camps to be used for disasters, and the FEMA camps to be used in times of crisis, are unrelated. But given the recent NDAA , allowing for the legal indefinite detainment of American citizens, and the political weather, it seems this isn’t such a far out possibility. It isn’t a nice issue to think about, but spreading the word about the possibility of an American holocaust would be arguably the most effective way to stop such an event.

Michelle Obama Plans Extended Posh Vacation During Summer of Scandal…

MAY 24, 2013

Her husband’s increasingly scandalous political woes appear to have not dampened First Lady Michelle Obama’s penchant for multi-million dollar vacationing. Reports just out indicate the First Lady is planning an “extended” stay in Martha’s Vineyard this summer – with or without her hapless husband…

Michelle Said to be Considering an Extended Vacation

With scandal swirling about the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama may be considering an extended exit from Washington this summer, fleeing for weeks to the Obamas’ traditional summer haven, Martha’s Vineyard.

According to the Boston Globe, “Michelle Obama and the children may be on the island for an extended period.” But the president would hardly be suffering by comparison. He may come up on weekends and then stay for two weeks at the end of the summer, the Globe reports.

The White House has not commented on the Obamas’ vacation plans.

Ten Leading Democrats Wrote IRS Demanding the Agency Crack Down on Conservative Groups

MAY 24, 2013

Starting in the fall of 2010, ten leading Democrats - Including, Max Baucus, Chuck Schumer, and Al Franken - wrote the IRS demanding that the agency crack down on conservative groups.

500 conservative and Christian groups were illegally targeted by the Obama IRS starting in 2010. For twenty-seven months the Obama IRS refused to approve any Tea Party applications for tax-exempt status while at the same time the Obama IRS approved dozens of progressive applications.

Now these same top Democrats are feigning outrage.

Now The Gibson Guitar Raids Make Sense

MAY 24, 2013

IRS Scandal: The inexplicable raid nearly two years ago on a guitar maker for using allegedly illegal wood that its competitors also used was another targeting by this administration of its political enemies.

On Aug. 24, 2011, federal agents executed four search warrants on Gibson Guitar Corp. facilities in Nashville and Memphis, Tenn., and seized several pallets of wood, electronic files and guitars. One of the top makers of acoustic and electric guitars, including the iconic Les Paul introduced in 1952, Gibson was accused of using wood illegally obtained in violation of the century-old Lacey Act, which outlaws trafficking in flora and fauna the harvesting of which had broken foreign laws.

In one raid, the feds hauled away ebony fingerboards, alleging they violated Madagascar law. Gibson responded by obtaining the sworn word of the African island's government that no law had been broken.

In another raid, the feds found materials imported from India, claiming they too moved across the globe in violation of Indian law. Gibson's response was that the feds had simply misinterpreted Indian law.

Interestingly, one of Gibson's leading competitors is C.F. Martin & Co. According to C.F. Martin's catalog, several of their guitars contain "East Indian Rosewood," which is the exact same wood in at least 10 of Gibson's guitars. So why were they not also raided and their inventory of foreign wood seized?

Grossly underreported at the time was the fact that Gibson's chief executive, Henry Juszkiewicz, contributed to Republican politicians. Recent donations have included $2,000 to Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and $1,500 to Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.

By contrast, Chris Martin IV, the Martin & Co. CEO, is a long-time Democratic supporter, with $35,400 in contributions to Democratic candidates and the Democratic National Committee over the past couple of election cycles.

"We feel that Gibson was inappropriately targeted," Juszkiewicz said at the time, adding the matter "could have been addressed with a simple contact (from) a caring human being representing the government. Instead, the government used violent and hostile means."

That includes what Gibson described as "two hostile raids on its factories by agents carrying weapons and attired in SWAT gear where employees were forced out of the premises, production was shut down, goods were seized as contraband and threats were made that would have forced the business to close."

Gibson, fearing a bankrupting legal battle, settled and agreed to pay a $300,000 penalty to the U.S. Government. It also agreed to make a "community service payment" of $50,000 to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation — to be used on research projects or tree-conservation activities.

Kris has set a date of May 23rd (tomorrow) as the date for the initial screening of the movie, and has released a trailer that has been approved by the MPAA for use in movie theaters (see it above). The film will be shown in a limited number of theaters starting on June 20th (list coming shortly), with intended distribution through PBS stations and DVD release shortly after the theatrical run. MAY 23, 2013

Residents of St. Louis County met in front of the IRS offices on May 21, 2013 to protest the IRS' practice of targeting and harassing conservatives, patriots and Tea Party supporters. There were no city or county police there, ONLY DEPT OF HOMELAND SECURITY POLICE. According to the IG report, the IRS began targeting conservative organizations, especially Tea Party groups, in Feb. 2010, (although there is much evidence that they have been targeting conservative groups and Christian groups since the 1980's.) The IRS agents were directed to target organizations with the words "patriot" or "tea party" in the names. The power to tax is the power to destroy. This is what it is like to live in a police state tyranny. It has become evident that they are planning on using the IRS as their Gestapo.

Immigration Reform Should Strengthen, Not Cost, America

May 22, 2013

Lawful immigration can bring important economic and cultural benefits both to the United States and to the immigrants. Americans rightly live and celebrate the values of America, including limited government, personal liberty, and free enterprise, and beckon others to join us. We are united by belief in our founding documents and our creed that all men are created equal. As Ronald Reagan said, “The immigrants who have so enriched America include people from every race, creed, and ethnic background.”

While we welcome those who want to come here, we are a nation of laws and the rule of law requires fair, firm, and consistent enforcement. Immigration is no exception and in fact is critically important, because newcomers need to see the principle in action from their first day in America. Those who enter legally by our slow and bureaucratic system need to be rewarded, not left wondering whether they should have entered or stayed illegally and waited for amnesty.

In addressing immigration, our government should start with keeping the promises they made when they granted amnesty “for only this one time” in 1986. First, they must secure the border. Then they should enforce our laws by imposing stiff fines on those who hire illegal immigrants. These steps are supported by supermajorities of the American people.

After that, Congress should move to fix our slow, broken lawful immigration system. Individual bills addressing these specific problems step-by-step are good for the country because they are simple, clear, and transparent. They make it possible to get legislative victories where we can agree and make it hard to hide loopholes or sweetheart deals for special interests. They can build trust that government is working for the people.

Unfortunately, Congress is moving ahead with a huge, complex, and comprehensive bill that will include amnesty for those who have broken our immigration laws. And in a time of massive and increasing debt, we know that the bill will end up costing taxpayers trillions of dollars. After a short time, millions of illegal immigrants will have access to the full panoply of bloated means-tested welfare programs and qualify for overburdened entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Instead, Congress should proceed step-by-step: border security, then workplace enforcement, and then fixing our broken legal immigration system. These steps will fulfill past promises and benefit America economically while not adding the unnecessary fiscal costs of amnesty.

From the land of Totalitarianism: Death in Zimbabwe results in unusual US charge

May 21, 2013

From a political standpoint, if Robert Mugabe had a son, would he look like Barack Obama? Maybe this'll help sort it out.....

This image released by U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va.,
shows the damage to the car that allegedly hit and killed
Alois Pedzisai Matyoramhinga in Zimbawbe. Unusual circumstances
have left federal prosecutors pursuing vandalism charges against
Andrew Pastirik, a U.S. government worker accused of killing the
Zimbabwe man in a drunken driving collision. Much of the case against
Pastirik is shrouded in secrecy at a federal courthouse in northern
Virginia. Court documents show the only charge filed against Pastirik
in the 2008 death is one of "malicious mischief," or vandalism, for
wrecking a U.S. government-owned Toyota Land Cruiser he was driving.
(AP Photo/Department of Justice)
The facts laid out by prosecutors are plain: In 2008, a U.S. government employee on assignment in Zimbabwe drove through the capital of Harare in his government-issued Toyota Land Cruiser and struck and killed a 34-year-old Zimbabwe man.

Five years later, the driver, Andrew Pastirik of Woodbridge, is facing criminal charges in the U.S. Pastirik denies being drunk, but he does not dispute that he struck the man, Alois Pedzisai Matyoramhinga.

Yet the indictment against Pastirik mentions Matyoramhinga only in passing and Pastirik is not charged with murder or manslaughter, or even drunken driving. Rather, he is charged with vandalism -- or "malicious mischief" as it is called in the criminal code -- for causing more than $1,000 in damage to the Toyota Land Cruiser.

If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

This image provided by U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va.,
shows the Zimbabwe National Registration card for Alois Pedzisai
Matyoramhinga. Unusual circumstances have left federal
prosecutors pursuing vandalism charges against Andrew Pastirik,
a U.S. government worker accused of killing Matyoramhinga in a
drunken driving collision. Much of the case against Pastirik is shrouded
in secrecy at a federal courthouse in northern Virginia. Court
documents show the only charge filed against Pastirik in the 2008
death is one of "malicious mischief," or vandalism, for wrecking a
U.S. government-owned Toyota Land Cruiser he was driving.
(AP Photo/Department of Justice)

Legal arguments are under way to determine whether Matyoramhinga's death can even be mentioned to a jury when his trial begins July 29.

Much of the case is shrouded in secrecy. Prosecutors, Pastirik's lawyer and Pastirik himself, who worked in the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service but is not currently employed there, won't comment.

Pretrial hearings were held behind closed doors "for national security reasons" under a law more typically used for terrorism and espionage cases. And court records don't say exactly why the case was brought nearly five years after the death, though in one filing, prosecutors attribute part of the delay to research on whether more severe charges could be brought.

The charge prosecutors ultimately settled on is an unusual one.

Michael Scharf, a law professor with Case Western Reserve University specializing in international law, said prosecutors are playing the hand that's been dealt to them.

"Although we do have a law on the books that allows the U.S. government to prosecute U.S. citizens who commit murder abroad, that does not apply to vehicular manslaughter. So the best the U.S. can do is charge the individual with destroying U.S. government property," Scharf said.

While the case is technically about the damage to the Land Cruiser, prosecutors argue they should be allowed to tell the jury that the damage occurred when Pastirik struck and killed Matyoramhinga.

"That the defendant, while intoxicated, struck a pedestrian with such force as to discharge bodily fluids onto the car, misremembered the location where the collision occurred, and offered conflicting explanations as to these events all tend to show that the defendant acted knowingly or carelessly in disregard of law," prosecutors Pragna Soni and Andrew Peterson wrote.

Pastirik's lawyer, meanwhile, argues Matyoramhinga is irrelevant to the case and should not even be mentioned in a vandalism case.

Allowing "evidence of the (death) injects a level of moral culpability that will confuse, agitate and confound the jury into thinking they are asked to decide whether the defendant took life, rather than destroyed a vehicle," wrote defense lawyer Joseph McCarthy.

Photos in the court file show Matyoramhinga's body lying face down in a field, his shoes knocked clear from his body.

The defense lawyer argues the damage to the government car was an unfortunate accident on a dark road, when Pastirik swerved to avoid an oncoming car. He says it lacks the willfulness necessary to prove vandalism.

The government said after Pastirik first reported the accident to a security officer at the U.S. embassy in Harare, he repeated, "This is bad" over and over. Pastirik told the security officer he knew it was bad because he had hit pedestrians before, when stationed in Afghanistan as an officer with the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service, which provides protection to ambassadors and other diplomats. In defense motions, Pastirik disputed he said that and disputed that he struck pedestrians in Afghanistan.

Court records said in the Zimbabwe death, Pastirik was drinking at Marine House where the Marines who guard the embassy in Zimbabwe are stationed. A Marine Corps spokeswoman said Pastirik was not a Marine.

Zimbabwe's ambassador to the United States, Machivenyika Mapuranga, said he hadn't heard of the case until he was contacted by an Associated Press reporter. He said he assumed Pastirik's case was properly handled in Zimbabwe, but added that if the U.S. asserted diplomatic immunity on Pastirik's behalf, Zimbabwe would not have been able to put him on trial for Matyoramhinga's death.

He said he understands the rationale for putting Pastirik on trial in the U.S. for vandalism.

"It's within their right to do so," he said of the U.S. government.

State Department spokeswoman Laura Seal declined to comment on whether the U.S. asserted diplomatic immunity on Pastirik's behalf.

While governments can claim immunity on behalf of their diplomats, they can also waive a diplomat's immunity.

In a high-profile case, the U.S. pressured the government of Georgia to waive immunity for diplomat Gueorgui Makharadze, who in 1997 slammed his Ford Taurus at high speed into a line of cars stopped for a traffic light in Washington, killing a 16-year-old Maryland girl. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault and spent more than three years in a U.S. prison before being returned to Georgia to serve the remainder of his sentence.
