Sen. Casey: Protest planned at Clouse funeral 'disgusting'

The Supreme Court may have granted Westboro Baptist Church the right to protest at funerals, but that doesn't mean U.S. Senator Bob Casey has to approve.

Sen. Casey (D-PA) released a statement calling the church's activities at funerals "disgusting," especially regarding the group's decision to protest the service for seven Perry County children who died this week in a farmhouse fire.

Members of the Kansas church plan to arrive with their signs and remarks near the funeral of the Clouse children at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Elliottsburg.

"The protesters should stay in Kansas and pray for the Clouse family," Casey said. "The U.S. Supreme Court may say that they can continue to preach hate, but that doesn't mean we should tolerate their actions in Pennsylvania."

Casey urges midstaters to come out to support the Clouse family in the event of a protest.
