In a rare move, two Marine generals -- Maj. Gen. Charles M. Gurganus, left, and Maj. Gen. Gregg A. Sturdevant -- were forced into retirement Sept. 30, 2013, after Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James Amos concluded they should be held to account for failing to secure a base in Afghanistan against a Taliban attack that killed two Marines in 2012.
