SAN ANTONIO — A man who secretly recorded his coworkers as they used the restroom made the mistake of filming himself while setting up the camera that was later handed over to police, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Ray De la Cruz, 44, was released from the Bexar County Jail on Christmas Eve after posting $10,000 bond for one charge of improper photography. He was arrested Thursday.
If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to two years in a state jail facility.
De la Cruz was confronted and fired by his boss after a coworker found the iPod that was “taped to the back wall of a shelf of a storage locker located directly in front of the toilet,” according to police.
A coworker found the device after hearing it beep, the affidavit states.
De la Cruz was wearing his nametag when the camera captured him setting up the device, according to police. He later confessed to his employers that the iPod belonged to him “and he did in fact set up the camera to record persons who went to the restroom,” according to the affidavit.
Authorities did not identify the business where De la Cruz worked.
