12 accused of using government home health program to scam others
(KMOV) –A government healthcare program meant to save taxpayer money is actually turning out to be a program some fraudsters are using to rip people off.
Illinois is a part of a nationwide $12 billion program that allows Medicaid recipients to appoint a personal assistant. That person is supposed to help an elderly or disabled person stay in their home by helping with things, including shopping and meal preparation.
The job pays $11.65 an hour and it can be anyone who agrees to do it .
At least twelve people are accused of using the under scrutinized Home Services Program to rip people off.
News 4’s Investigative Reporter, Chris Nagus has been following this story since August and says law enforcement is serious about getting control of the big problem.
