Envoys ponder suspending Libya from rights group
PARIS – Diplomats pondered Thursday whether to suspend Libya from the U.N.'s top human rights body over possible crimes against humanity for Moammar Gadhafi's violent crackdown on protesters. That proposal regarding the U.N.'s Human Rights Council was added to resolution proposed by European Union members ahead of an emergency meeting Friday in Geneva on Libya. The EU also wants the council to approve a U.N.-led probe into "gross and systematic violations of human rights by the Libyan authorities" and to condemn violence against protesters and others as possible crimes against humanity.
