SF Sidewalk Cleaners Can’t Keep Up With The Call Of Nature

07/12/2013

Raw sewage oozes onto the sidewalk in San Francisco’s Noe Valley.

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco has been trying to clean the stench of urine from its streets, an aroma that in several neighborhoods serves as a daily reminder of the failure of a quality of life law passed more than a decade ago.

The Department of Public Works received some 5,600 requests from business and residential property owners in the first half of 2013 to have sidewalks steam cleaned, primarily, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, to deal with human waste, despite countless citations issued by police under a 2002 law banning public urination.

Citations for peeing in public in San Francisco range from $50 to $100, but can only be issued if the officer actually witnesses an answer to the call of nature in person as it happens.

Not all of the steam cleaning requests, which can be submitted by dialing 311, involve the use of sidewalks and gutters as bathrooms.

But the majority of the sanitation complaints so far this year originated in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods, with the Mission District accounting for most of the rest.

Former Police Chief Pressured into Zimmerman Arrest with No Probable Cause, Fired

Lee was also a defense witness in the Zimmerman trial. As I wrote earlier, the defense made its final arguments today and the 29-year-old shooter's fate now lies in the hands of a jury.

Off The Grid: Russian Secret Services Go Back to Typewriters to Avoid NSA Surveillance

07/11/2013

It looks like the Russians are trying to keep their secrets close to home and to avoid the NSA surveillance by buying typewriters.

According to a Russian newspaper, the Federal Protective Service of Russia (FSO), has decided to purchase 20 typewriters to be used for writing down official documents.

This should serve, the source says, to protect state secrets from the prying eyes of Big Brother and any possible online data collection.

It looks like the decision has been made after the WikiLeaks scandal, as well as the details unveiled by Edward Snowden regarding the spying of Dmitri Medvedev during the G20 summit in London.

As far as security goes, it is known that any type of electronic communication is vulnerable to interception. Thus, the FSO move might seem old-fashioned, but it could prove to be efficient.

Photos: Former Boston bomber ‘person of interest’ partying at WH?

07/11/2013

The young Saudi student once named a “person of interest” in the Boston Marathon bombing, scheduled for deportation based on “security” concerns, and then supposedly visited in the hospital by Michelle Obama, allegedly spent July 4 at the White House celebrating with the Obamas, members of our military and their families.

A law enforcement source “with direct knowledge” of the Boston bombing investigation confirmed to The Blaze on Wednesday that Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi is one of the men seen in a photo allegedly taken somewhere outside the White House on the fourth of July.

That photo, and another close-up photo of the president and first lady, were posted on the Twitter account of a man who said he is Alharbi’s father.

Twitter photo from alleged father of Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi. (Alharbi in red tie)
Translation: “We attended the celebration with my son Abd Al-Rahman and my son Issa,” according to The Blaze.

Translation: “We greeted Obama and his wife…,” according to The Blaze

Along with the Twitter photos, there was a link to a Saudi Arabian newspaper article that said Alharbi and his family “had been invited by the White House to participate in America’s Independence Day celebrations,” the article said.

The Blaze published additional photos from the White House celebration taken by both Reuters and Getty news services’ for comparison to the photos from the Twitter account.

According to the paper’s comparison, everything in all three sets of photos, from “their surroundings – down to the outfits of the individuals they’re standing next to – appear to align.”

One Reuters’ photo even showed “three men dressed in black suits,” which is what Alharbi and the men he is with are wearing in their alleged White House photo.

The Blaze reported it had not received any answers to its numerous questions from the White House as of press time. Questions like, why would Alharbi be invited to an event honoring military heroes and their families? At the White House? On the fourth of July, an American holiday? Were other Boston bombing survivors invited?

But the article did say that the White House pool report noted the event was “closed to the public:”

“The President and First Lady [celebrated] the 4th by hosting ‘military heroes and their families’ along with administration staff and families at a White House barbecue and concert on the South Lawn.”

World’s ‘Most Dangerous Islamist’ Alive, Well, and Living in Pennsylvania

07/10/2013

This is likely an update of a story posted on Capitalist's Rebellion probably three or so years ago. Truthfully between time restraints and just being too damn lazy to search through our nearly 26,000 posts, I suppose I'll have to wing it here.

The first thing that comes to mind is that Google's "Street View" had some very interesting pics. But you'll have to explore that on your own. Other than the location, there were only a couple of those views posted by us or the original source in that particular article.

So, let's see what's new and maybe refresh our collective memories a bit.. Let us begin.

An Islamic Armed Fortress Emerges in the Pocono Mountains

The most dangerous Islamist in the world is neither Afghani nor Arab.

He comes from neither Sudan nor Somalia.

And he resides in neither the mountains of Pakistan nor the deserts of the Palestinian territories.

This individual has toppled the secular government of Turkey and established madrassahs throughout the world.

His schools indoctrinate children in the tenets of radical Islam and prepare adolescents for the Islamization of the world.

More than 90 of these madrassahs have been established as charter schools throughout the United States. They are funded by American taxpayers.

One of these charter schools – Tarek ibn Zayed Academy (TiZA) in Minnesota – is so radically Islamic and subversive in nature that the Minnesota Department of Education issued two citations against it and the American Civil Liberties Union is suing it.

Dozens of his universities, including the Faith University in Istanbul, train young men to become lawyers, accountants, and political leaders so that they can take an active part in the restoration of the Ottoman Empire and the Islamization of the Western World.

He also allegedly operates compounds to train jihadis in the tactics of guerilla warfare.

This individual has amasssed a fortune – over $30 billion – for the creation of a universal caliphate.

His name is Fethullah Gulen and he resides not in the wilds of southern Turkey – but the mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

From his fortress headquarters, located on 28 acres at 1857 Mt. Eaton Road in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, Gulen plots the overthrow of secular governments and oversees the spread of education jihad throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Gulen is surrounded by an army of over 100 Turkish Islamists, who guard him and tend to his needs. The army is comprised of armed militants who wear suits and ties and do not look like traditional Islamists in cloaks and turbans. They follow their hocaefendi’s (master lord’s) orders and even refrain from marrying until age 50 per his instructions. When they do marry, their spouses are expected to dress in the Islamic manner, as dictated by Gulen himself.

The Saylorsburg property consists of a massive chalet surrounded by numerous out buildings, including recreational centers, dormitories, cabins for visiting foreign dignitaries, a helicopter pad, and firing ranges.

Neighbors complain of the incessant sounds of gunfire – including the rat-tat-tat of fully automatic weapons – coming from the compound and the low flying helicopter that circles the area in search of all intruders.

The FBI has been called to the scene, the neighbors say, but no action has been taken to end the illegal activity.
Sentries stand guard at the gates to the estate to turn away all curiosity seekers.

Within the sentry hut are wide screen televisions that project high resolution images from security cameras.

Before the hut is a sign that reads “Golden Generation Worship and Retreat Center.”

It’s hard for the local residents to understand that the Muslim who operates this compound is not an American political or intelligence official – but rather a radical Islamist from Turkey.

Gulen fled Turkey in 1998 to avoid prosecution on charges that he was attempting to undermine Turkey’s secular government with the objective of establishing an Islamic government. Since his arrival in Pennsylvania, the Department of Homeland Security has been trying to deport him. But in 2008 a federal court ruled that Gulan was an individual with “extraordinary ability in the field of education” who merited permanent residence status in the U.S.

The ruling remains quizzical because Gulen has no formal education or training.

Gulen, according to the Middle East Quarterly, was a student and follower of Sheikh Sa’id-i Kurdi (1878-1960), also known as Sa’id-i Nursi, the founder of the Islamist Nur (light) movement. After Turkey’s war of independence, Kurdi demanded, in an address to the new parliament, that the new republic be based on Islamic principles. He turned against Atatürk and his reforms and against the new modern, secular, Western republic.

How powerful is Gulen? And why is he such a threat to America and the Western world?

Consider this.

Turkey is now ruled by the Justice and Democratic Party (Adalet ve Kalkinma, AKP)- – a party under the Gulen’s control. Abdullah Gul, Turkey’s first Islamist President, is a Gulen disciple along with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Yusuf Ziya Ozcan, the head of Turkey’s Council of Higher Education.

Under the AKP, Turkey has transformed from a secular state into an Islamic country with 85,000 active mosques – one for every 350- citizens – the highest number per capita in the world, 90,000 imams, more imams than teachers and physicians – and thousands of state-run Islamic schools.

Despite the rhetoric of European Union accession, Turkey has transferred its alliance from Europe and the United States to Russia and Iran. It has moved toward friendship with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syria and created a pervasive anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, and anti-America animus throughout the populace.

Speaking on Monday at the inauguration ceremony of “TRT al Turkiye,” the new channel of the state run TV station TRT, Prime Minister Erdogan said Turkey will always be on the side of Muslims wherever they are.

Gulen’s tentacles stretch throughout the country since his followers, known as Fethullahists, have gained control of the country’s media outlets, its financial institutions and banks, and its business organizations.

According to Bayram Balci, a Turkish scholar, the Gulen schools that have been established throughout the world seek to expand “the Islamization of Turkish nationality and the Turification of Islam” in order to bring about a universal caliphate ruled by Islamic law.

Several countries have outlawed the establishment of Gulen schools and cemaats (communities) within their borders – including Russia and Uzbekistan. Even the Netherlands, a nation that embraces pluralism and tolerance, has opted to cut funding to the Gulen schools because of their imminent threat to the social order.

But Gulen’s activities in the United States, including the establishment of an armed fortress in the midst of the Pocono Mountains, have escaped national press attention.

In his public statements, Gulen espouses a liberal version of Sunni/Hanafi Islam and promotes the Muslim notion of hizmet – altruistic service to the common good.

Despite the paramilitary training at his Pocono fortress, Gulen has condemned terrorism and called for interfaith dialogue. He has met with Pope John Paul II, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomeos, and Israeli Sephardic Head Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron.

In private, Gulen has stated that “in order to reach the ideal Muslim society ‘every method and path is acceptable, [including] lying to people.’”

In a sermon that was aired on Turkish television, Gulen said:

“You must move in the arteries of the system without anyone noticing your existence until you reach all the power centers … until the conditions are ripe, they [the followers] must continue like this. If they do something prematurely, the world will crush our heads, and Muslims will suffer everywhere, like in the tragedies in Algeria, like in 1982 [in] Syria … like in the yearly disasters and tragedies in Egypt.

The time is not yet right. You must wait for the time when you are complete and conditions are ripe, until we can shoulder the entire world and carry it … You must wait until such time as you have gotten all the state power, until you have brought to your side all the power of the constitutional institutions in Turkey…

Until that time, any step taken would be too early—like breaking an egg without waiting the full forty days for it to hatch. It would be like killing the chick inside. The work to be done is [in] confronting the world. Now, I have expressed my feelings and thoughts to you all—in confidence … trusting your loyalty and secrecy. I know that when you leave here—[just] as you discard your empty juice boxes, you must discard the thoughts and the feelings that I expressed here.”

Why has the federal government opted to turn a blind eye to Gulen and his mountain fortress?

Why have Gulen’s madrassahs been kept under the radar screen of Homeland Security?

Why have the CIA and FBI allowed Gulen to wreak havoc and topple secular governments without interruption or intervention?

The questions beg answers.

Another School District Drops Michelle Obama's Lunch Program

07/10/2013

“You can offer nutritious, healthy foods, but you can’t make kids eat them or like them.” That’s the conclusion school district officials in New York’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake have drawn and why they’re ditching Michelle Obama‘s lunch program beginning September 2013. As Kyle Olson from EAGnew.org reports, the officials point to “hungry, frustrated children plus lost income” as reasons for discarding the program.

BARACK OBAMA: THE ARCHITECT OF DESTRUCTION

07/10/2013

via Liberty News Online:

Barack Obama appears to be a tormented man filled with resentment, anger, and disdain for anyone of an opinion or view other than his. He acts in the most hateful, spiteful, malevolent, vindictive ways in order to manipulate and maintain power and control over others. Perhaps, because, as a child, he grew up harboring an abiding bitterness toward the U.S. that was instilled in him by his family and mentors…it seems to have never left him.

It is not the color of his skin that is a problem in America. Rather it is the blackness that fills his soul and the hollowness in his heart where there should be abiding pride and love for this country.

Think: Have we ever heard Obama speak lovingly of the U.S. or its people, with deep appreciation and genuine respect for our history, our customs, our sufferings and our blessings?

Has he ever revealed that, like most patriotic Americans, he gets "goose bumps" when a band plays "The Star Spangled Banner," or sheds a tear when he hears a beautiful rendition of " America the Beautiful?"

Does his heart burst with pride when millions of American flags wave on a National holiday - or someone plays "taps" on a trumpet?

Has he ever shared the admiration of the military, as we as lovers of those who keep us free, feel when soldiers march by?

It is doubtful because Obama did not grow up sharing our experiences or our values. He did not sit at the knee of a Grandfather or Uncle who showed us his medals and told us about the bravery of his fellow troops as they tramped through foreign lands to keep us free. He didn't have grandparents who told stories of suffering and then coming to America , penniless, and the opportunities they had for building a business and life for their children.

Away from this country as a young child, Obama didn't delight in being part of America and its greatness. He wasn't singing our patriotic songs in kindergarten, or standing on the roadside for a holiday parade and eating a hot dog, or lighting sparklers around a campfire on July 4th as fireworks exploded over head, or placing flags on the grave sites of fallen and beloved American heroes.

Rather he was separated from all of these experiences and doesn't really understand us and what it means to be an American. He is void of the basic emotions that most feel regarding this country and insensitive to the instinctive pride we have in our national heritage. His opinions were formed by those who either envied us or wanted him to devalue the United States and the traditions and patriotism that unites us.

He has never given a speech that is filled with calm, reassuring, complimentary, heartfelt statements about all the people in the U.S. Or one that inspires us to be better and grateful and proud that in a short time our country became a leader, and a protector of many. Quite the contrary, his speeches always degenerate into mocking, ridiculing tirades as he faults our achievements as well as any critics or opposition for the sake of a laugh, or to bolster his ego. He uses his Office to threaten and create fear while demeaning and degrading any American who opposes his policies and actions. A secure leader, who has noble self-esteem and not false confidence, refrains from showing such dread of critics and displaying a cocky, haughty attitude.

Mostly, his time seems to be spent causing dissension, unrest, and anxiety among the people of America , rather than uniting us (even though he was presented to us as the "Great Uniter"). He creates chaos for the sake of keeping people separated, envious, aggrieved and ready to argue. Under his leadership Americans have been kept on edge, rather than in a state of comfort and security. He incites people to be aggressive toward, and disrespectful of, those of differing opinions. And through such behavior, Obama has lowered the standards for self-control and mature restraint to the level of street-fighting gangs, when he should be raising the bar for people to strive toward becoming more considerate, tolerant, self-disciplined, self-sustaining, and self-assured.

Not a day goes by that he is not attempting to defy our laws, remove our rights, over-ride established procedures, install controversial appointees, enact divisive mandates, and assert a dictatorial form of power.

Never has there been a leader of this great land who used such tactics to harm and hurt the people and this country.

Never have we had a President who spoke with a caustic, evil tongue against the citizenry rather than present himself as a soothing, calming and trustworthy force.

Never, in this country, have we experienced how much stress one man can cause a nation of people - on a daily basis!

Obama has promoted the degeneration of peace, civility, and quality of cooperation between us. He thrives on tearing us down, rather than building us up. He is the Architect of the decline of America , and the epitome of a Demagogue.

The View From Afar(n): Obama the unpopular

07/10/2013

Obama's image across the world is more reflective of his method of politics, and less representative of the wave of excitement upon which he was elected

 Obama's image is taking a
battering around the world
If it is true that the price of political courage is unpopularity, then it could be argued that political cowardice would reap rewards for world leaders who coast on rhetoric and avoid substantive action.

When considering his predecessors and his incumbent colleagues around the world, few heads of state or world leaders could be placed in the same category of political pusillanimity as U.S. President Barack Obama.

It sounds like a hell of a statement, but in analysing the former Illinois Senator's record in office, the prevailing narrative is one of confusion at best. Hasty in the face of long-term goals, and known to prevaricate when confronted with crises, Barack Obama was elected on a wave of populism. The "Obama effect" has come to typify campaigns, posters, and effective how-to guides on getting elected are often adorned with an image of America's first black president.

Why then, wherever Obama travels in the world, is he confronted with voluminous disdain?

It all seemed to start well by his standards. In Cairo, he spoke to the "Muslim world" of building bridges and other nice, fluffy things. But the reality was far from what Obama and his advisors could have ever imagined, and Cairo set the tone for a bumbling foreign policy approach that has left Obama as one of the least popular leaders on the face of the planet.

But Bush was relatively unpopular too - so why am I being so harsh on Obama?

It's quite simple. When George W. Bush, Obama's predecessor, was elected, there wasn't an outpouring of ecstacy across the globe. People weren't convinced that the new Messiah had arrived, or that "change had come" - whatever that means.

When George W. Bush was elected, the United States was already perceived as being overstretched, and while Bush Jr compounded that problem with his nation-building philosophy, Obama promised to end America's role as bad guy in the world, while ratcheting up the rhetoric on peace, democracy, diplomacy and 'fairness'. It's all failed.

There were no pre-emptive Nobel prizes or hagiographic interviews in leading magazines from across the political spectrum. No. Bush was just another President, and the best that the American public could hope for at the time was a man who didn't get his rocks off in the Oval Office courtesy of an intern.

But Bush proceeded to lower the bar, according to the rest of the world. The Iraq War, the financial collapse, spiralling unemployment and a legacy of curtailing civil liberties all created a situation in which it was believed that anyone who followed, be it John McCain or Barack Obama, would surely fair far better.

And yet Obama has somehow managed to blow the whole show.

Whether in the Palestinian territories, in Israel, in South Africa or in Egypt, Barack Obama is now a widely loathed character on the international stage. And despite his re-election, he's not going great guns at home either.

And this is because Barack Obama's legacy is one of half-truths and half-efforts.

When he was elected in 2008, he promised to close Guantanamo Bay, make friends abroad, bring the troops home, confront terrorism, rejuvenate the economy, create a universal healthcare system for Americans and usher in a new era in the Middle East Peace Process. Fairly standard campaign promises, you might think. The problem for him was that most people actually believed him.

And Obama did go on to do some good things in all those areas. He hasn't yet closed Guantanamo Bay, but according to sources on the inside, it's a playpen compared to what it used to be. He has made friends abroad, but the wrong kind in now deposed leaders like Mohamed Morsi. He got Bin Laden, but America continues to be plagued by terror attacks. He employed an unprecedented fiscal stimulus, but Americans still can't find work. He created a healthcare reform bill that was widely described as a "blowjob to the insurance companies" that he claimed were the problem in the first place. And as for the Middle East - where do we start?

Whether it was the Obama administrations incompetence in "leading from behind" in Libya, and the resulting Benghazi nightmare, or the President's misreading of the situation in Egypt, backing Morsi too hard and too soon - you can see why the Arab world failed to fall in love with the 44th U.S. president.

As for Israel and the Palestinians, fobbing the situation off to John Kerry in his second term speaks volumes as to the seriousness of his commitment to any peace process. And both sides know it.

Obama's half-hearted politics have come to define his presidency, and will likely, bar some serious public relations revisionism, be the prevailing memory of his time in the White House.

Because whether you agreed with him or not on any of his core policies, you would probably have gained a lot more respect for the man if he pursued his agenda truthfully, and with vigour. Instead, Obama has created the greatest political enemy that he could have ever imagined: himself, circa 2008.

Hate, Racism, Family: the Left's Power Is in Its Changes to the Meaning of Words

7/9/2013
by Enza Ferreri

About the recent Birmingham mosque stabbings of 4, including a policeman, the TV said that it is not considered as a hate crime.

This simply means that the suspect, a man of Somali appearance, was not a non-Muslim, making him a Muslim (sounds a bit circumvoluted but this is what circumvoluted ways of thinking result in).

But why? If you look at the way Muslims kill and massacre each other all over the world, especially those of rival sects, it looks like fellow Muslims are very much capable of hating a Muslim.

On the other hand, a non-Muslim could very well kill a Muslim without hating him, for whatever practical reason.

It derives from all this that the word "hate" has now acquired a new meaning, it no longer means a sustained emotion of profound aversion and distaste for someone, a sin in Christian theology. Instead it denotes a political sin that, unlike the Christian one, cannot be forgiven, the crime of thinking differently from what the ideological orthodoxy prescribes, the secular heresy par excellence, in short the guilt, more serious than murder, of having politically incorrect thoughts.

Atheists are not doing away with religion. Even they, despite all the hatred that they (at least in the case of militant, fundamentalist atheists) have for religion, cannot help confirming for the umpteenth time that humanity cannot avoid thinking in a religious way.

Atheists are simply replacing a religion, Christianity, where at least the principles, precepts, rules and values are clear and have required several centuries of rational thought to arrive at, with another, which we may call 'cultural Marxism' or 'political correctness', in which the principles are half-baked, the precepts are fluid, the rules are self-contradictory and the values have no solid foundation but change with the ideological fashion.

Religion is a way of thinking embedded in the human mind. That is why all societies of all places and times have always had a religion.

And religion does not even need to be theistic, namely include a belief in God, but it can also be atheistic.

And we cannot do away with faith. Everything requires faith, from the hope that the train will eventually arrive to the trust in your spouse when s/he declares to you absolute faithfulness, from the belief that political change for the better is possible to the credence that everything, the whole universe, was born out of chance or, alternatively, design.

Going back, the Left has highjacked the use of certain words or completely changed their meaning.

It has revolutionised the English vocabulary and, as in all revolutions, it has dispossessed someone, all of us, of it. It has self-appropriated, stolen the English dictionary, become its self-appointed master.

We cannot use the word "gay" any more, except in the particular sense that the Left has dictated. And incidentally it has appropriated for itself the rainbow as a symbol.

It has made the use of certain words (nigger, faggot, poofter, Paki etc) impossible, while at the same time made perfectly acceptable the use of others, swear words and expletives especially of a sexual or bodily nature, which were not allowed before.

It has utterly transformed the meanings of "hate", "racism" and "family".

This is where the power of the Left lies, these are its culture war victories.

The power of the Left is in its theft of the language for its own purposes: by controlling what words people utter and with what meaning, it controls what people think.

Obama: Ramadan Time to ‘Celebrate the Principles That Bind People of Different Faiths’

7/9/2013

Happy Ramadan from President Obama:

With the start of the sacred month of Ramadan, Michelle and I extend our best wishes to Muslim communities here in the United States and around the world.

For the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims, Ramadan is a time for thoughtful reflection, fasting and devotion. It is also an opportunity for family and friends to come together and celebrate the principles that bind people of different faiths – a commitment to peace, justice, equality and compassion towards our fellow human beings. These bonds are far stronger than the differences that too often drive us apart.

This month also reminds us that freedom, dignity and opportunity are the undeniable rights of all mankind. We reflect on these universal values at a time when many citizens across the Middle East and North Africa continue to strive for these basic rights and as millions of refugees mark Ramadan far from their homes. The United States stands with those who are working to build a world where all people can write their own future and practice their faith freely, without fear of violence.

In the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that millions of Muslim Americans enrich our nation each day—serving in our government, leading scientific breakthroughs, generating jobs and caring for our neighbors in need. I have been honored to host an iftar dinner at the White House each of the past four years, and this year I look forward to welcoming Muslim Americans who are contributing to our country as entrepreneurs, activists and artists.

I wish Muslims across America and around the world a month blessed with the joys of family, peace and understanding. Ramadan Kareem.

NSSF Sues Connecticut Officials In Federal Court

7/9/2013

Firearms Industry Files Suit Alleging Process Used to Pass Gun Regulations Violated Connecticut Statutes and Constitution

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, today filed suit in federal court for the District of Connecticut alleging that Gov. Dannel Malloy and the leadership of the Connecticut General Assembly misused the so-called "emergency certification" exception to circumvent the safeguards of the normal legislative process and in violation of Connecticut statutory law in order to pass Senate Bill 1160, a package of strict gun-control regulations.

The suit further alleges that enactment of the new law violates fundamental due process rights guaranteed by both the Connecticut and United States Constitutions. NSSF is asking the court to declare the law invalid and issue an injunction prohibiting its enforcement.

"A 139-page bill was assembled behind closed doors, bypassing both the public hearing and committee processes, and quickly sent to floor votes on the same day in both the House and Senate where legislators did not have adequate time to even read the bill. The governor then signed the package into law the next day. All of this is in violation of guarantees citizens are supposed to have under Connecticut State Statutes and protections in our State and U.S. Constitutions for which our forefathers fought," said Lawrence G. Keane, senior vice president and general counsel, NSSF. "Our suit focuses on this abuse of process that has resulted in enacted law that does nothing to improve public safety, while resulting in adverse effects on law-abiding citizens, manufacturers, retailers and sportsmen's organizations."

The filing can be accessed at http://www.nssf.org/share/PDF/NSSFComplaint-FILED_070813.pdf.

The Connecticut Law Tribune recently editorialized on this topic. That editorial can be accessed at http://ctlawtribune.com/PubArticleCT.jsp?id=1202608974608

Forcing Christians to Eat Pork

7/9/2013

While Barack Obama has often been compared to leaders of the past, it's unlikely anyone has yet associated him with Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Ruler of the Seleucid Empire between 175 and 164 B.C., King Antiochus is best known for the persecution of Jews, and one story from the second book of Maccabees is particularly relevant here. As the passage tells us, the king was bent on forcing a Jewish woman and her seven sons to, of all things, eat pork. The boys resisted and were tortured and killed one by one as their mother, who ultimately was also murdered, looked on. What's interesting, though, is that while the victims were being faithful to what they believed was divine dietary injunction, there was no Seleucid commandment stating "Thou shalt compel others to dine on swine." The act of eating such meat was but a trivial matter to Antiochus, yet he nonetheless insisted on imposing his will.

Why would a person do this? It would be for one -- or, more likely, a combination -- of the following reasons:          READ MORE
