Mix Brown and green to get red ink
Jerry Brown coyly has positioned himself as straddling the middle when it comes to California's disastrous budget deficit, hoping to be viewed by the Left as willing to increase taxes, but also by the Right as willing to cut spending. He would like to be seen as not too doctrinaire but, rather, as a high-minded pragmatist, giving and taking for the greater good. Over the horizon loom a pair of issues that will dwarf even the state's calamitous $25 billion of budgetary red ink. They are likely to reveal Brown's true color – green. Don't expect him to be coy....
