Statism: Local Cider Mill under attack by local ruling class
Here a local story. A really, really local story. The Rochester Cider Mill has been around since I can remember, and for almost as long the ruling class around the area have been trying to shut it down. It started in the 1970s when Oakland Township re-zoned the property to residential, which in the 1980s was OK'd by a court but with the stipulation that the cider mill continue to operate, but under some pretty draconian conditions. Apparently the cider mill made the mistake in 2010 of putting out a slide and some hay bales for children to play on, selling a few Christmas trees in the winter, and growing a small amount of corn for a kids corn maze after which time the ruling class of Oakland Township pounced on them with their taxpayer-funded lawyer. From the Oakland Press: Oakland Township puts squeeze on cider mill. The head of the Oakland Township Board of Trustees is Joan Fogler who runs a farm just up the street with hay for kids to play on and that grows corn. Conflict of interest? You betcha!
