“Wisconsin 14″ Were Paid at Least $200,000 to “Flee” State During Union Vote
Jolene Churchill, the hardworking aide of Wisconsin Republican State Senator Glenn Grothman has just given this latest bit of information on the 14WisconsinDemocratic senators who fled their state in a failed attempt to stop an anti-union bill from passing. At the time they abandoned their duties, the absconding politicians insisted they were doing so without financial help from anyone. In countless interviews during their exile, the senators whined they were bearing the harsh economic burden by digging into their savings and even, as one whined piteously, borrowing from his own parents, uncle and sister. But this poor mouthing is now proving to be untrue.

Starting at the 1:29 mark of the above link, you will hear the announcer reveal that at the Netroots Nation’s convention in June of this year, Levana Layendecker, communications director for the liberal PAC Democracy For America, said, “DFA raised $200,000 for the Democratic Senate Committee to help (the 14 absent Wisconsin senators) stay out of the state for longer.”

When Newsline 9 contacted Layendecker this last Wednesday to explain her words, she went into frantic backtrack and said that no money went to Wisconsin Democratic senators to pay for their hotel bills, etc., while they hid out in Illinois. Instead, the nearly quarter million in funds went to the State Democratic Senate Committee. “What I meant was that Democratic members would be inspired to stay out of the state by the support for their campaigns,” said Layendecker. “That is why I referenced our donations to the campaign committee specifically.”
Personally, I have a feeling that a lot of Wisconsinvoters are going to be ‘inspired’ next November 2012 to send all of those 14 Democratic Senators on a permanent vacation from their jobs. And it will be an exile those ex-politicians really will pick up the tab for.
