Just in time for May sweeps, the producers of the animated Fox hit series Family Guy decided to devote an entire episode to trashing the Tea Party Sunday.
Liberal creator Seth MacFarlane's goal was surely to offend every right-thinking person in the nation as he depicted the conservative movement as a bunch of racist anarchists destined to destroy America (video follows with transcribed lowlights and commentary).
The premise of the episode was that after City Hall in his town threatened to shut down his illegal business, main character Peter is thinking of joining the Tea Party because he was fed up with government.
He attended a Tea Party rally filled with exclusively white people mispronouncing words such as “taco” and “tortilla.”
Worse still, the movement was depicted as anarchists looking for absolutely no government as opposed to the real Tea Party which advocates fiscally responsible government living within its means.
Regardless, Peter liked what he heard, and proceeded to join.
Not surprisingly, with all government services eliminated, the town began to totally fall apart.
Without any laws preventing it, Peter’s son took a bunch of mescaline and drove to Las Vegas.
His teenage daughter was free to have sex with her teacher.
The nearby refinery began spewing a toxic cloud heading toward the town.
Recognizing the danger, Peter said, “It’s up to us, the people, to find a solution. Close the curtains.” After the drapes were shut on the window the family was looking out of, Peter said, “Ah, Tea Party.”
Next, a male resident was wedded with a giraffe which nine months later bore a “child.”
Not surprisingly, a little anti-Semitism was thrown in along with a Nazi reference.
Mort, the Jewish pharmacist, showed up at Peter’s house saying, “Historically, in instances of mass lawlessness, the first thing they do is round up the Jews.”
A truck filled with Skinheads plastered with Swastika tattoos arrived with one of them saying, “Excuse me, fellow Aryan, have you seen any Jews around?”
Mort replied, “Is there a reward?”
Back in his house, Peter watched a television newscast featuring an announcer threatening to punch his female co-anchor and stealing her purse.
The television then went blank, and Peter’s wife came in to let him know that their power lines are down and there’s no one to fix it. “The cops don’t come, the toilets don’t flush, and there’s garbage piling up in the streets.”
“We had a nice town, Peter,” she continued. “I had a nice life, but you and your anti-government buddies ruined it.”
At that moment, Peter’s talking dog entered asking, “Hey, so how’s that Tea Party going, huh? More like TP Party. Toilet paper.”
Peter responded, “I don’t know what happened, Brian. Not having a government worked great in Somalia, but somehow we seemed to have botched it all up.”
In the end, Peter went before the town and recommended they establish a – ahem – government to tax them and solve all their problems.
The moral of the story is that the Tea Party is for completely eliminating government as well as all of its services, and if they have their way, it will basically be the end of the world as we know it.
When you think about it, this isn’t that much different than what most media outlets have been saying about this movement since it resurfaced in its current iteration in April 2009.
With Election Day nearing, it seems a metaphysical certitude we'll be seeing more nonsense just like this.
