Watch group places U.S. flags along border

BISBEE — For the fifth year, American Border Patrol, a non-governmental border watch group, plans to place several thousand flags spelling the words “Save the United States” on a billboard just feet north of the U.S.-Mexico border to commemorate Independence Day.

The new billboard will join one erected last year that used 10,000 flags to spell out “Secure the Border,” said Glenn Spencer, president of American Border Patrol.

The group will hold a special “flag raising” rally on June 30 at its border ranch in Palominas to place the flags on the border billboard. Chartered buses will bring people to the ranch from Phoenix, Tucson and Sierra Vista. For reservations, call 803-7703.
