An Iowa legislative panel unanimously approved a measure that would allow active duty military members to buy handguns without going through the usual permit process.
If passed, Iowa would join 37 other states that allow military members to buy firearms without permits. Currently any person buying a handgun must get a permit first, meet certain requirements, and pay a fee.
But the bill would allow military members to skip the process entirely.
