Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's heart to heart with President Obama was not able to chip away at a man with ice in his veins. Netanyahu made it vividly clear that Israel's existence can not come at the expense of a Palestinian state. In 2008 Obama gave a speech at AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee) where he said, "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided."
But President Obama's radical policy suggestion that "Israel return to 1967 borders" makes Jerusalem a nine mile city. Right now Jerusalem is a forty eight mile city. It also takes away key strategic territories from Israel and makes it much easier for the enemies that surround them on all sides to breach their borders. Obama may not be a radical Islamist on paper but he is making a grave mistake choosing the interests of states that are sponsored by terrorism over the interests of Israel. That being said, he might as well be a radical Islamist.
And to make things worse for Israel:
Guardian.co.uk reports:
Barack Obama will seek a joint Middle East agreement with David Cameron, insisting that a Palestinian state should be based on pre-1967 borders – a proposal rejected by Israel's prime minister as "unrealistic" and "indefensible".
Despite the outright rejection by the Israeli premier, Benjamin Netanyahu, of a Palestinian state based on the borders that existed before the Six Day War, when Israel captured and occupied the West Bank and Gaza, Obama has already secured the political backing of the United Nations, European Union and Russia who, with America, are collectively known as the "quartet".
The AIPAC conference is this coming Sunday through Tuesday. So let's hope they stick to him like Netanyahu did when he just said, "NO."
