LIRR Widow McCarthy A Vile Enemy of 2nd Amendment
by Raquel Okyay
“The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.” Thomas Jefferson
Well said, Mr. Jefferson! We do not have to store, fire, own, or even like guns to understand that the Second Amendment’s requirement is a need, no American can do without. If there came a point in time, when our elected officials became so arrogant to cease abiding by the Constitution “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed” is in place so that we can protect ourselves, our country and our families against tyrannical government.
Simple enough? Right. Wrong. Too many politicians have lost sight of the intrinsic value of this non-negotiable right. Busy doling out invented rights to special groups and introducing legislation that exerts control over innocent Americans, Congress is circumventing our rights, and we ought to be paying attention.
In response to the Tuscan, Arizona shooting in January, 2011, that killed 6 and wounded 13 people including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, so-called gun safety advocates, came out in droves to denounce freedom and control innocent people.
Rep. Robert A. "Bob" Brady, of Pennsylvania, for example, introduced a bill “that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be seen as threatening or violent against a federal official, including a member of Congress.”

If we the People are cautioned to refrain from redressing our elected officials with complaint, they can easily deem “threatening”; the People have no rights at all!
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., is also a champion for “gun safety.” Gun safety in her mind is tantamount to handing to the Federal government the power to decide who can work at a gun shop.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y.
"Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation that would require all gun store employees to pass a background check. Gun dealers would have to supply employee information so that the Department of Justice can run background checks on them using the National Instant Criminal Background Check Database (NICS) system and certify that the employee should be allowed to work in a gun store. http://carolynmccarthy.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=289§iontree=18,289"
Maybe the Congresswoman should spend more time on background checks for the illegal immigrants that loiter Nassau County, and less time on deciding whether an innocent citizen is “allowed” to work.
McCarthy was elected to Congress after her husband was killed and son seriously injured on the Long Island Rail Road in 1993. A very sad story indeed but not reason enough to stop abiding by the Constitution.
As it turns out, McCarthy is not just wrong on gun control; she has a long record of votes that show how out of touch she really is with the average American. Here is a just a peek into the extreme way McCarthy votes (Source: ontheissues.org):
Budget – economy – energy:
Voted YES on additional $825 billion for economic recovery package. (Jan 2009)
Voted YES on $15B bailout for GM and Chrysler. (Dec 2008)
Voted YES on $60B stimulus package for jobs, infrastructure, & energy. (Sep 2008)
Voted YES on keeping moratorium on drilling for oil offshore. (Jun 2006)
Voted YES on prohibiting oil drilling & development in ANWR. (Aug 2001)
Voted YES on starting implementation of Kyoto Protocol. (Jun 2000)
Abortion – civil rights – education:
Voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime. (Feb 2004)
Voted NO on banning partial-birth abortions. (Apr 2000)
Voted NO on protecting the Pledge of Allegiance. (Sep 2004)
Voted NO on treating religious organizations equally for tax breaks. (Jul 2001)
Voted NO on vouchers for private & parochial schools. (Nov 1997)
That is usually how it happens. Extreme gun control advocates vote extreme on every other issue as well. These are the far left policies of the Obama, Reid, Pelosi agenda that has hindered not helped the economic and social structure in America. It is a philosophy that says the Federal government “knows better than you” when in reality it never does.
Gun safety is an excuse to control innocent people. After all, guns do not kill people, people do. Politicians think they can control the universe, sometimes. It is our job to stop them. We know better.
