Fast forward to October of next year. We’re about one month away from the 2012 election .. an election that could well determine whether our country continues on the road to socialism and a command government-directed economy, or we start moving back toward economic liberty and prosperity. I’m feeling pretty stongly about this election, and decide to pull no punches in the final weeks. After all .. you have to face the fact that you can only get so far appealing to the intelligence of the American voter, most of whom have been educated by the very government which seeks more power over their lives.
I decide, then, to play on more basic and raw human emotions. I’m going racial. I’m going to make Barack Obama’s color the issue. So one morning I tell my audience “Stick together, white people. Forget the facts. Just remember your color and be loyal to the white candidate.”
Oh yeah!
So .. what happens then? All hell breaks loose, that’s what. Media Matters blows an exhaust valve. People start screaming “racist” from the rafters. The entire collection of puffed up MSNBC ignoranuses suffer spasms of angst as they call for my affiliates to drop my show immediately and call for advertiser boycotts. Why? Well obviously because I’m a raaaaaaacist! No white talk show host, columnist or commentator in America could get away with calling for white voters to remember their racial loyalty and vote for the white guy. No responsible media company would leave such a person on the air.
But then … that’s cause I’m a white guy. But what happens if the tables are turned completely? What if I was a black radio personality telling people to remember their blackness .. and vote for the black guy? Apparently … nothing.
Sunday’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution contained an article by Krissah Thompson of the Washington Post. Headline: “Obama’s backers urge black unity.” You do realize, don’t you, that we’re only allowed black unity in America. White unity is verboten.
The article quotes hugely popular morning radio host Tom Joyner saying: “Stick together, black people.” Stick together to do what? To keep Obama in office, that’s what. According to Thompson, Joyner wrote on his blog at his website “Let’s not even deal with the facts right now. Let’s deal with just our blackness and pride and loyalty. We have the chance to re-elect the first African-American president, and that’s what we ought to be doing. And I’m not afraid or ashamed to say that as a black people we should do it because he’s a black man.”
Forget the facts? Vote the color? That’s the way to elect a president?
Don’t get me wrong here. I like Tom Joyner. He’s a fine gentleman. Few in radio do more for great charitable causes than Tom and he has never been anything but courteous to me. I’m just bringing this up for two obvious reasons:
If a white radio host ever dared say that we should vote for, say, Mitt Romney because he’s white …. Well, I don’t need to tell you the puddin’ storm that would erupt. (I was going to use Herman Cain as an example, but somehow that didn’t work.)
On no rational level does it make sense to re-elect such an abysmal failure – to put him in the White House for four more years, for no other reason than his skin color.
Seriously .. I just don’t understand this. Do we continue to sacrifice generations of young black Americans to the welfare statist ideas of Democrat politicians? For the life of me I cannot understand why black Americans can’t see how much better off they would be if the political parties actually had to vie for their votes! What kind of deal are you going to get on a ticket from Atlanta to Los Angeles if the entire city of Atlanta made it clear that there is only one airline they will fly? There would be no need for that airline to reduce ticket prices or improve services to compete with other airlines. You’re just going to by-God fly with them because they either gave you some great service in the past (but not so much now), or because you like the freaking color of their planes?
We have 17%+ unemployment among black Americans, but let’s re-elect Barack Obama … ‘cause he’s black.
Black teenage unemployment is almost 50%. No big deal though, we need to re-elect Barack Obama … ‘cause he’s black.
Barack Obama has never been part of the black experience in America. He never lived under Jim Crow. He was not part of the civil rights battle of the 60s. No matter … we need to vote for him … ‘cause he’s black.
Think about this. Republicans are almost certain to keep control of the House. They very well may gain control of the Senate … and Obama’s chances for reelection don’t look all that special. So here’s an idea … let’s talk black voters into making it clear to the Republicans that no matter what, the black vote stays with the Democrats. Yeah … that ought to really make those Republicans pay attention to the concerns of black Americans.
Good plan, Tom. Let me know how that works out for you. After all, the color of the president is so much more important than how he leads, isn’t it?
