This is Jamarhl Crawford, the head of the New Black Panther Party in Boston. The comments themselves are pretty banal, although he amusingly admonishes the (presumably) mostly white liberal audience for ignoring black inner city poverty in favor of such important causes as saving the whales and baby seals. (He has a point here.) But can can you imagine the reaction if a Tea Party event hosted – much less applauded – a speaker from a racist hate group?

It’s no wonder smarter liberals are already starting to distance themselves from the Occupy protests. Personally I hope Krugman’s Army keeps on going strong all the way through November 2012.
