P.E. coach arrested for injuring kindergartener at school
A McAllen ISD physical education (P.E.) coach is now charged with injury to a child.
Almost a week after the Call 4 Action aired, the P.E. teacher at McAuliffe Elementary who is accused of pinning a 5-year-old kinder student to the floor has been arrested and charged.
Matthew Leibold, 48, is out on bond on injury to a child charges.
The child's mother contacted Action 4 News about the incident after she told us her child was assaulted, and court documents support her claim.
In those court documents, an investigator for McAllen ISD states a teacher witnessed Liebold pin the 5-year-old boy to the floor.
The investigators said Liebold had his right hand and knee on the child, while the child was lying in a fetal position.
The child was evaluated by a school nurse following the incident.
She reported the child suffered minor bruising to his arms, left side of his face, and a bump to the left side of his head.

McAllen ISD's spokesperson, Mark May, released a statement about the coach's arrest.
May said in a statement the coach turned himself in after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
The PE coach remains on administrative leave at this time, and the case has been forwarded to the district attorney's office.
May added that the school district's intent is to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment for all children.
