EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Evansville City Council members voted on the controversial Good Neighbor Ordinance, but some confusion over state law has left Monday's vote in limbo.
After a three and a half hour meeting, we still don't know the outcome of the vote.
City Council Attorney Scott Danks says he's not sure if state law requires a majority or 2/3 vote to pass.
The vote was 5 to 4 to pass the ordinance, so Danks says he'll have to do some research and let us know the outcome of the vote Tuesday morning.
The Good Neighbor Ordinance has been a controversial plan since it was introduced.
Under the ordinance, landlords would be notified of police runs to their property, and if there are several runs to one apartment, the renter could be evicted.
Supporters say, for landlords who are already doing their jobs, this doesn't change anything.
Opponents say this could result in some unfair evictions and even more homeless people in Evansville.
