A child sexual assault suspect has been found after being on the run for 15 years.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Nicolas Salas who was attempting to cross into the US from Mexico.
Salas was wanted on a felony charge for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old in 1999, according to a press release by CBP.
The 35-year-old from Penitas had a warrant out for his arrest, CBP raid.
The warrant for his arrest was out of Waxahachie, a city near Dallas.
He was a passenger in a SUV when CBP conducted a preliminary check.
That check prompted them to check a criminal database, which resulted in the discovery of a warrant.
He was arrested on  Thursday, June 4th in connection to the first-degree felony charge.
“This alleged fugitive of the law who had been on the run for almost 15 years was finally apprehended due to our ability to query everyone who seeks to enter the United States at any international border crossing,” Port Director  Efrain Solis Jr. said in a press release.
Salas was then turned over to the Hidalgo Police Department, where he is awaiting extradition to Waxahachie.
