Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been granted a leadership position created just for her. Sen. Warren will be the tactical policy guru to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. Her role will be to construct policy positions and priorities. In her newly created position as adviser to the DNC, Warren will also enable progressives to be heard in leadership discussions and operate as a liaison to progressive groups.
Sen. Warren is arguably the most popular main-street progressive at large, and her being in a leadership role in the Senate will be the motivation necessary to aggressively nudge progressive proposals forward, as opposed to making agreements with Republicans. Warren recently wrote in a Washington Post op-ed emphasizing the need for Congress and President Obama to take a closer look at the benefactors of legislation. She went on to mention that lobbyists and lawyers have lined up to pass new laws aimed at getting the rich even richer and the powerful more powerful, instead of closing tax escapes that favor huge corporations. Warren has been relentless in her pursuit for the break-up of financial organizations that continue to harm us, and for refinancing the “ungodly high” interest on student loan debt. The American agenda shouldn’t be in the hands of lobbyists, she insists.
In order to serve all the American people, we need an agenda and not on wealthy individuals and corporations.
Warren is right. Progressive policies were big winners in the midterm elections. Minimum wage increases passed in five states, the relaxing or removal of marijuana laws, and the rejection of abortion right limitations. In order to serve all the American people, we need an agenda and not on wealthy individuals and corporations.
