A new study indicated that the Valley is among the sickest in the nation when it comes to the flu.
This came a week after the CDC announced this year's vaccine isn't as effective in combating a common strain of the virus.
"We are trying to leave spaces in our appointment slots so that we can serve people with any concerns about the flu," said Dr. David De La Llata, Family Practice Physician.
Dr. De La Llata said there are many misconceptions about the flu. He encourages people to seek medical attention instead of waiting.
Some of his patients who seek attention at Su Clinica tell him they go over the border to find vaccines.
"They will buy antibiotics like penicillin. The flu requires special anti-virus that you can only get here in the U.S.," said Dr. De La Llata.
According to WebMD's Cold and Flu map, the Rio Grande Valley was number three on list of the top 10 sickest cities in the United States.
Medical professionals are now concern over virus H3N2.
According to the CDC, it is more severe than the other strains, there are more hospitalizations and more deaths.
Dr. De La Llata said it's better to have come protection and recommends people to get the flu shot. It continues to offer protection against other viruses. He said if you feel something coming, don't go out to public places and see your doctor.
