Attorneys of five adult siblings filed a $5 million dollar civil suit against their parents citing irreparable harm after the parents had the children baptized at birth against their consent. The lawsuit was filed Friday afternoon at the New Hanover Superior Court in Wilmington, North Carolina. The filing of the lawsuit occurred the same week the Tennessee Court of Appeals ruled a Tennessee mother, Lauren Jarrell, should face criminal contempt charges after her two children were baptized without her ex-husband’s knowledge and consent.

The lawsuit filed Friday at the North Carolina court is the first time in American legal history parents were sued for baptizing their children ‘at birth’.

The adult siblings ranging in ages from 42-56, claim their parents, 82-yr-old Elmo and 81-yr-old Bertha Phules, baptized the children in a Catholic Church without the children’s prior consent at age 4-weeks.

“We thought we were doing the right thing when we had those children baptized at birth”, said Mr. Phules, a former University of North Carolina sociology professor. “Where do those idiots think we’re gonna come up with $5 million dollars, the Mega-Millions Lottery?

The youngest sibling, April Phules, 42, told the local press she’s had three baptisms: the 1st at 4 weeks in a local Catholic Church, the second, at age 21 at a Baptist Church, and a 3rd baptism at age 36 at a local Methodist Church.

“I just joined the local Lutheran Church so now I’m going to have get baptized again.”

All five siblings have undergone a total of 21 baptisms.

The eldest Phule sibling, Jasper Phule:

“If it hadn’t been for our parents taking our right at birth to choose when we wanted to get baptized we wouldn’t be so baptized confused. We’re looking for our day in court. Our parents didn’t raise us to be no fools.”
