The Department of Homeland Security will post a new rule for public comment tomorrow. Once more, Obama is doing a dance around Congress. It’s an Executive Order alert! No doubt he desperately needs this before the November election.
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is proposing to make it easier for illegal immigrants who are immediate family members of American citizens to apply for permanent residency, a move that could affect as many as 1 million of the estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally.
The new rule, which the Department of Homeland Security will post for public comment Monday, would reduce the time illegal immigrants are separated from their American families while seeking legal status, immigration officials said. Currently, such immigrants must leave the country to apply for a legal visa, often leading to long stints away as they await resolution of their applications.
The proposal is the latest move by the administration to use its executive powers to revise immigration procedures without changing the law. It reflects an effort by President Obama to improve his standing among those Latino voters who feel he has not met his 2008 campaign promise to pursue comprehensive immigration reform…
The revised rule would allow illegal immigrants to claim that time apart from a spouse, child or parent who is a U.S. citizen would create “extreme hardship,” and would permit them to remain in the country as they apply for legal status. Once approved, applicants would be required to leave the U.S. briefly, simply to return to their native country and pick up their visa.
The change could reduce a family’s time apart to one week in some cases, officials said. The White House hopes to have the new procedures in place by the end of the year. Source: LA Times
Affecting only 1 Million of those illegally in the country? I don’t believe it. Thanks to the Washington Times.
Monty Pelerin’s World:
Victor Davis Hanson wrote a “required reading” article in Pajamas Media. In the piece, Mr. Hanson describes how moral superiority knows what a “just” society is. That claim is patently indefensible, yet these persons, anointed with superior intelligence at least in their own minds, are convinced of “inequities” that need be corrected.
Their arrogance and patronizing knows no boundaries. When in power, anything that precludes them from “improving” the world is merely an impediment that must not stand in the way. The Constitution and Rule of Law, bedrocks of this country and responsible for its exceptionalism, are two such barriers. The Obama Administration and its progressives are not bound by such matters. Their mission is too important to let the law get in their way.
Fifty years ago, what they have done would not be thinkable. Had someone tried a tenth of their shenanigans, they would have been impeached. Now we have “grown” to tolerate such behavior understanding how “good” it is.
With this attitude, we are finished! We have devolved into the Rule of Man rather than the Rule of Law. In that regard, we are on our way to totalitarianism.
When I find the new “Rule” posted, I will link it here. Make time to comment, and use the words “Rule of Law.” The Rule of Law is the issue.
