My working neighbors are having another baby. They will be financially responsible for this child‘s needs. If they happen to fall into bad times, they may get some help from the tax dollars they helped fund. They will not intentionally bring another baby into the world that they know they cannot afford to feed or clothe. This family may struggle a bit, but they are hard workers who were taught to be responsible and accountable, not entitled.
On the other hand, there are individuals procreating on the welfare system, receiving handouts left and right (then getting SSI checks for their kids). Taxpayers are forced to be financially responsible for their own families in addition to families who have never paid into the system. Although some entitlement policies may be changing to make people more accountable, it is not enough.
Policy makers are talking about reducing food stamps while the root of the problem continues to be the number of children that recipients continue to have after getting on welfare.
The change to the system needs to be: You choose to have more children after signing onto welfare, that choice is on you. Taxpayers will not be forced to be financially responsible.
That change is in no way unethical. It is a boundary that will help prevent children from being used as a paycheck. No one is preventing recipients from having children. Recipients will just not get a pay increase for procreating.
After welfare is revised to make sense, SSI disbursement desperately needs to be addressed.
