Loyalty Day Resolution Approved By PA House
HARRISBURG – A resolution sponsored by Rep. Rick Saccone of Allegheny & Washington Counties that would recognize May 1, 2014, as “Loyalty Day” in Pennsylvania has unanimously passed the PA House. First established by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1958, Loyalty Day is an opportunity for all Americans to reaffirm their loyalty to United States and to celebrate freedom. Also unanimously passing the House was a resolution co-sponsored by Saccone that declares April 22, 2014, as “Governor James Pollack Remembrance Day.” That resolution acknowledges Pollack for his tenure as director the United States Mint in Philadelphia, where he made the decision to first print the phrase “In God We Trust” on America’s coins in 1864. The phrase was formally adopted as the national motto in 1956. House Bill 1728, introduced by Saccone last year, would direct school districts to place the nation’s motto in public school buildings to promote knowledge of Pennsylvania’s role in its establishment.
