A woman is behind bars after she allegedly tried to smuggle two illegal immigrants from Mexico in the trunk of her car.
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 35-year-old Rita Muñoz on federal human smuggling charges on Tuesday night.
Federal court records show that Muñoz was headed north at the Sarita checkpoint when a K-9 officer detected something suspicious in her trunk.
Border Patrol agents found two illegal immigrants from Mexico in the trunk of her car.
Muñoz allegedly told agents that she was supposed to get paid to deliver the immigrants up north.
The 35-year-old woman appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville on Thursday morning.
Judge Morgan denied bond for Muñoz until a Tuesday afternoon hearing.
