WEEKEND UPDATE: RACISM 'SEEMS LIKE A REQUIREMENT' FOR JURY DUTY

12/7/2014

"Weekend Update" hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che ripped a Staten Island grand jury for failing to issue any indictments in the death of Eric Garner while also commenting on the Ferguson case on NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
The discussion initially focused on the Garner case, with Jost going over details of the crime while Che attempted to rationalize the verdict with claims like "it's not like there was video," or "Garner shouldn't have killed all those" people before finally expressing incredulity at the lack of an indictment.
Che then stated "both grand juries failed to indict those cops, you know it used to be you said you were racist to get out of jury duty, now being racist seems like a requirement." He then remarked that he might try to actually serve on a jury because either juries had to improve, or prosecutors would have to play negatives of the video (so the victims would be white and the police officers would be black) in order to get indictments.
Jost added that Staten Island was a terrible venue for a grand jury because it's "80% white and 95% cops."
