I won't make excuses for Sarah Palin where it concerns Paul Revere. She didn't get it right. Not surprisingly, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams was in full smug when he said, "Listen to the following and you shall hear Palin's version of the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere."
Yet where was Brian Williams when Barack Obama said he had visited 57 states with one left to go during a campaign stop in Beaverton, Oregon in May 2008? You never heard Williams say, "Listen to the following and you shall hear Obama's version of American geography." If he had done so he would probably would have been accused of racism. Perhaps Williams was too busy practicing his bow to The Anointed One. The same could probably have been said of Politico, Forbes, Mediaite, ABC News and The Los Angeles Times.
Now I am not arguing that Sarah Palin is above criticism. Quite the contrary. As a public figure who may very well make a bid for the White House it is the responsibility of the media to reasonably scrutinize her words and actions with a healthy dose of skepticism. But alas there is nothing healthy about the liberal media's coverage of Sarah Palin. Yes, Palin erred in this instance but her mistake is magnified beyond proportion. Why? Because she is an anathema to their values, a threat to their agenda and thus she must be marginalized, if not destroyed. So in the pursuit of Sarah Palin's destruction, the liberal media jettisons all pretensions of objectivity and journalistic standards.
Of course, Barack Obama was subject to no such scrutiny during his White House bid in 2008 by liberal media outlets when he said he had visited 57 states. Why? Because they wanted him to be elected President and talking about that incident could have compromised their objective. Thus Barack Obama could have told that audience in Beaverton that he was regularly visited by little green men in spaceships and the liberal media wouldn't have batted an eyelash.
The bottom line is if Palin's take on Paul Revere is front page news then so too is Obama's claim that he had visited 57 states. Naturally, I harbor no such illusions. My lungs can only hold so much air.
