2-Month-Old girl shot and killed

Infant dies after single gunshot wound on Christmas Eve

EAST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP, Pa. —A two-month-old Lancaster County girl was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. in an East Lampeter Township home at 2165 Old Philadelphia Pike, in the Countryside Apartment Complex. The baby girl was killed from a single shot from a handgun, which belonged to a relative, according to authorities. Police are gathering forensic evidence from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
At this point, District Attorney Craig Stedman is calling the case a sad set of circumstances. Stedman is not sure if anyone will be charged.
"It's a stark reminder of responsible gun ownership and dealing with firearms," Stedman said.
Stedman said it is too soon to call this an accident. He said the baby's family is cooperating with police.
"Nobody's more important than another's family member. This is just a terrible situation," Stedman said.
The names of those involved are not being released at this time.
An autopsy is planned for the infant.
