WINDSOR MILL, Md. (WJZ)—The investigation continues into an officer-involved shooting. Baltimore County police fired several shots at a cab driver who is accused of trying to attack a woman. It took several officers to finally get the man under control.
Rochelle Ritchie spoke with a neighbor who saw this bizarre situation unfold right before his eyes.
The suspect was tased, pepper sprayed and even shot– but none of that could bring him down.
It all started with a frantic call to 911.
“I was woke up by my wife this morning saying there was someone outside screaming for help, so I jumped out of bed and put on my clothes and came outside onto the porch,” said Matt Lamon, neighbor.
Baltimore County police rushed to the home on the 3700-block Old Milford Mill Road where they say a man attacked a woman.
“Our officers responded to that location and were able to determine the suspect in this case had been attacking a woman at that location, had held her down and threatened to kill her,” said Lt. Robert McCullough, Baltimore County Police.
Police have not identified the suspect but say he was armed with a knife and refused to obey police commands.
That’s when officers used pepper spray to try and detain him. It didn’t work.
They fired Tasers at him.
What happened next stunned Lamon, who lives across the street.
“The man started walking away and I could seem he started pulling the Taser leads out, the officers were following him trying to detain him and he turned around and charged at them again,” Lamon said.
“The suspect was able to break loose from the officer, jumped into his vehicle and actually tried to use the vehicle to run over the officers,” McCullough said.
With no other options, the officers pulled out their guns and fired on the suspect, hitting him several times. He still had enough energy to fight with the cops.
“We had to put two officers in the ambulance and also send a car behind the ambulance. So there were a total of three officers that went to the hospital with the suspect in this case just to control him,” McCullough said.
Police say the suspect had no connection to the woman he allegedly attacked, but neighbors say they’ve seen him at the home before but never that violent.
“From my understanding, he’s a friend of the kids that live there. They grew up together,” Lamon said.
Police are looking into whether or not the suspect had a mental episode that may have caused him to be so violent.
The officers involved are assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
