LAS VEGAS — Adrien Broner has always had a way with words.
But this time he may have outdone himself.
In the minutes after he won a unanimous decision against Carlos Molina on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana fight on Saturday, Broner just couldn't help himself, entering into the realm of the absurd. Speaking to Showtime's Jim Gray in the ring, Broner told Gray "I've beaten Africans and I just beat the f--- out of a Mexican," a reference to Molina, who is Argentinean and of Mexican descent and was born in Commerce, Calif.
The crowd showered him with boos. Broner smiled. Gray took issue with Broner's words, reprimanding him and causing Broner to wipe the smirk off his face.
Broner then discussed possibly facing the likes of Manny Pacquiao in the future, a boxer who was once ridiculed by Broner's idol, Mayweather on an infamous internet video along ethnic lines.
Broner (28-1, 22 knockouts) is no stranger to histrionics. The 24-year-old once flushed $20 bills down the toilet in a video that was posted on social media.
He also raps into the ring and is an avid trash talker, once telling Paulie Malignaggi before they fought in June of last year that he slept with a former gal-pal.
He also reportedly climbed on stage at a strip club and performed a sexual act that was supposedly posted on YouTube.
Broner was in action on Saturday for the first time since he lost a decision to Maidana in December, surrendering his WBA welterweight title in the process.
