32 gang members rounded up in week-long crackdown

Photo:
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department rounded up 32 confirmed gang members through a week-long initiative.
These are some of the most dangerous alleged criminals in the county.
The gang members are fugitives wanted for misdemeanor and felony charges.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office dedicated this week to take these criminals off the street.

We did a ride-along with officers tracking the confirmed gang members down.

The operation dubbed "safe communities" started on Monday and ended on Friday at 1 p.m.

Ten agencies committed to the initiative at all hours of the day and night.

In total, 32 confirmed gang members were arrested.

They come from gangs like Latin kings, tri-city bombers and tango blast.

They were wanted from crimes like possession of marijuana, assault and aggravated robbery.

A total of 41 immigrants in the country illegally were also discovered during the investigation at stash houses and during vehicle bail outs.
They are now in border patrol custody.
The sheriff’s office will continue to crack down on gangs in the county but they say they need your help.

If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood you can report it and remain anonymous.
Another reason the operation was formed was to create trust between the different state, local and federal agencies following the resignation and guilty plea by former Sheriff Lupe Trevino.
