A woman and her mother-in-law are facing criminal charges following the death of a 3-month-old baby who was left home alone.
Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio told Action 4 News that deputies are investigating the death of Baby Jordan Rodriguez.
Sheriff Lucio said deputies have arrested the baby boy's paternal grandmother Nelda Rodriguez on a child endangerment charge.
Lucio said the boy's 19-year-old mother Diana Torres is wanted on the same charges but has not been arrested yet.
The sheriff said Torres and Rodriguez are accused of leaving Baby Jordan alone at the family's home at 30444 Montalvo Road just outside San Benito.
Lucio said the baby's father felt dizzy, so Torres and Rodriguez took him to the hospital but left Baby Jordan home alone.
The family reportedly came back home and found Baby Jordan unconscious and then took him to the Harlingen Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Lucio said Torres and Rodriguez tried to lie to deputies by telling them they had taken Baby Jordan to the hospital with them when they took the boy's father there.
Deputies reviewed surveillance camera footage and learned that they never had Baby Jordan with them when they took his father to the hospital.
Rodriguez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail where she's expected to face a judge.
