The head of this organization argues Democrats are more aligned...
He declares that Democrats offer the “most realistic electoral vehicle” in the fight against greedy Wall Street capitalists, the Tea Party, white supremacists and right-wing evangelicals. “He” is the chairman of the Communist Party USA, John Bachtell, who says that American Communists are ready to align with the Democrat Party to achieve their goals.
As writer Eric Owens points out in a piece for The Daily Caller, Bachtell wrote a 2,000-word essay detailing his reasons for embracing the Democrats. It was a manifesto of sorts published at People’s World — a “daily news website of, for and by the 99% and the direct descendant of the Daily Worker.”
Excerpts from the Communist chief’s writing provide clear insight into why he urges his comrades to work with Democrats and against Republicans. Admitting that American Communists are disillusioned with the Democrats, Bachtell argues that the party still offers the better policies and programs for “winning advanced economic and social democracy, and even winning a green, democratic, demilitarized socialism.”
…the Democratic Party is also home to labor, African Americans, Latinos, other communities of color, women, most union members, young people, and a wide range of social and democratic movements. These constituencies exert influence on party leadership and hold positions at all levels.”
Bachtell also notes that Democrats and Communists are more in sync politically because “labor and other key social forces are not about to leave the Democratic Party anytime soon. They still see Democrats as the most realistic electoral vehicle to advance their agenda, especially in the national battle against the extreme right.”
It’s also interesting to note that an article posted at the Communist website peoplesworld.org praises President Obama for his recent State of the Union address.
“…an upbeat and forceful President Obama signaled that rather than retreating in the wake of Republican victories in last November’s election he intends to use the remainder of his second term to push hard for a progressive agenda on behalf of the nation’s working people.”
