While making the rounds on the Sunday talk shows, Secretary of State John Kerry was caught on a hot mic making some comments about Israel that he probably didn’t want anyone to hear.
Kerry was having a conversation with an aide in between segments, and is seen and heard mocking Israel’s claim about how they are conducting a “pinpoint operation.”
It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation. It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation. We’ve got to get over there. Thank you, John. I think, John, we ought to go tonight. I think it’s crazy to be sitting around.
Civilians on both sides of the conflict have been killed, but Kerry seemed to think less of Israel’s claim that they were successfully avoiding civilians.
Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace called out Kerry, saying it was “an extraordinary moment of diplomacy,” and played the hot mic clip. Afterwards, he asked Kerry if he thought the Israelis were going too far.
Kerry’s answer was measured, practiced, and not exactly what we heard on the hot mic. How much better would it be for the administration to stop hiding how it really feels about our allies? Then we might have a view of its real intentions.
