Un-American blood is thicker than water.
He took an oath to defend the United States and its laws but now, an active-duty soldier is behind bars after being accused of smuggling illegal immigrants.
U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents filed human smuggling charges against Eric Rodriguez.
Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that Rodriguez was dressed in a full military uniform when he drove up to the Sarita checkpoint in a Chevrolet pickup truck.
Border Patrol agents searched his truck and reported finding two illegal immigrants laying on the floorboard behind the front seat.
The immigrants were reportedly hiding under a bed sheet and a military jacket that had Rodriguez's name tag on it.
One of the immigrants told HSI agents that he paid $3,000 dollars to be smuggled into the United States and that Rodriguez picked them up.
Rodriguez appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ignacio Torteya III in Brownsville on Friday.
The active-duty U.S. Army soldier was denied bond until a Wednesday afternoon hearing.
