"Twerking" with Mexican flag may land pop star Miley Cyrus with a fine and jail time south of the border.
She was on stage in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon when she was seen bending over and rubbing on a Mexican flag.
The concert took place on Tuesday, which was the Diez y Seis de Septiembre Independence Day Holiday in Mexico.
She is now subject to a criminal investigation for her controversial dance moves, CNN confirmed.
Cyrus is accused of violating a Mexican law about desecrating the Mexican flag and could spend up to 36 hours behind bars and a fine, according to CNN.
“Lawmakers in Nuevo Leon state voted unanimously Wednesday to condemn the incident,” cnn.com reported.
Many concertgoers and citizens found the moves offensive.
Monterrey is about a two and a half hours drive southwest of McAllen.
