A driver "under the influence of alcohol" crashed into a Border Patrol vehicle and fled early Saturday morning, according to the Brownsville Police Department.

Patrolmen spotted the driver nearby and stopped him.
Police arrested Jose Angel Mata and charged him with intoxication assault with a vehicle involving seriously bodily injury, according to the Brownsville Police Department.
Mata refused a breathalyzer test. Police obtained a search warrant, which allowed them to draw blood.
The Border Patrol agent was taken to a nearby hospital with a non-life threating injury.
