The Democrats' "investigative journalism" has finally outdone itself!
With a burgeoning primary comes Freedom of Information Act requests, and three reporters at Buzzfeed (three reporters), were apparently tasked with using FOIA to reveal the horrors of Ted Cruz's adolescent years. Pursuant to that mission, they came into possession of Cruz's 2003 application to be Solicitor General of Texas.
In a shocking revelation from the documents that surprises absolutely no one who spent any fraction of their late teens in the company of other people in their late teens, it turns out Ted Cruz was once ticketed for possessing alcohol as a minor, after a 1987 police stop that revealed an unopened case of cheap beer in his trunk. The Presidential contender then pled guilty to the misdemeanor. And then, decades later, an Internet news organization is utterly scandalized.
The weirdest part of this story is, of course (besides that it involvedthree reporters) that Ted Cruz's youthful transgressions are nothing when compared to Barack Obama's self-admitted dalliances, which include, but are not limited to, a fondness for marijuana and an unsucessful attempt at a cocaine addiction. And unlike Barack Obama, who stubbornly (and hypocritically) refuses to loosen Federal marijuana laws, and seems to have escaped the legal consequences of his action, Ted Cruz actually paid his dues.

In an application for the position, accessed via a Texas Public Information request, Cruz listed among his references Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist whom he clerked for. The application also reveals Cruz’s past salaries as an attorney, his recent legal record, speeches, professional associations, and a 1987 guilty plea for possession of alcohol as a minor.Let's be clear. Cruz was not arrested then, or now, for public intoxication. He was charged with a crime, pled guilty and, one can assume since no bench warrant was issued for non-payment, that he both attended his day in court and paid the ticket in full. Aside from the strange detail that someone with that much education wouldn't know to mind his p's and q's when delivering alcohol to a party in 1987, the scooplet is utterly boring, and worse, it's forcing me to defend Ted Cruz. Hell, it even makes him more relatable. Of the existing slate of candidates, I thought only Rand Paul would have been any fun at parties.
An aide to Sen.Cruz said he was a senior in high school and got pulled over and they found an unopened case of beer and he received a ticket.
“Teenagers often make foolish mistakes, and that certainly applied to me as well,” Cruz said in a statement provided to BuzzFeed News.
